DougRob - 2010-01-09 7:22 AM Suzy:

For the bike, have you considered using different length crank arms to compensate for the difference in leg length?

Doug

P.S. I am surprised that a bike fitter did not notice such a big difference as well. A good one would see that right away.

Doug--No, I would never have enough thought of that.  Paco is coming over on Monday so I will ask him. How would that work?  Since we are in the process of building my new bike it might make the most sense to do it here. Yes?

I have gone through fittings at Cronometro which is the most experienced LBS in Wisconsin and worked with Paco for years.  Neither picked up on it.  I guess I am not totally surprised when my whole cadre of medical professionals missed it.  Only my trusty PT of the last 3-4 years believed it to be true, but no one would listen to him.   He has been right on the stress fracture and now the leg length when everyone else missed it.  Love him.

Jeff, I have a posse of professionals to keep this old body in reasonable shape.  I think your issue was probably phsyiological, whereas this is an actual anatomical difference.  The only thing they can really do for it is provide build ups for my short side.  It will require easing into it since this is the way I have been for a very looooooooong time!  Glad to see you are getting benefits from your practioners!

Tracy--just finished my mini marathon....thought of you on the TM.  Hope your run tomorrow is perfectly spectacular!

PS Jeff keep the song ideas coming....my IPOD needs some new music for when I go to Mexico in a few weeks.....

I read a response from a bike fitter on ST who charges a lot, but once he described his process and the time it took it seemed well worth it. He might have caught your issue'

Anyway, in your situation you would need to use crank arms from two different sets (not sure how that would effect the cost x2?). A shorter arm for the shorter leg. The only issue will be can you find crank arms with the proper difference in length. Ask Paco.

Doug

Anyone have any suggestions for a road bike? I am a clydesdale and probably will be forever. I just want to make sure that I get a bike that I dont pop the tires on. I have around a 1k dollar budget. It will be in the spring when I get it so I am trying to plan ahead. I am also 6'5" so I need a larger framed bike.

just 11?
slacker

yeah i really slacked.  i was 9 not 11.  ;-)

it was 19 when i ran.  a little colder with the windchill.  not sure if i like that more than 100 + degree days.  two different animals.  lots easier to control the hr, but man that cold just eats through me.

That's cuz you're getting too skinny.
I'm the slacker, rest day today and only 7 miles tomorrow...I will do 2.6 of them in honor of Tracy

All three kids got mp3 players for christmas.  I have to admit...I've hit Limewire pretty hard.
I already have most of the songs my son wants, but I don't own much Demi Lovato or Selena Gomez for the girls.

My list leans to the hard side...NIN, Metallica, Rage Against the Machine, some Megadeth, Kid Rock, Limp Bizkit, etc...
Then I have the stuff from high school...Poison, AC/DC, Motley Crue, G-n-R, etc.

But since I don't run with music I don't really know why I have all this.

A bagel with PB on it 20 minutes prior to a 1 hr is SO NOT good for me.
Good thing I ran early, there was no one around.

Good start on the music guys and gals...Reuben you're hardcore dude!! well except for Poison in high school.

I have a bike setup question.   I was professionally set up on my roadie in 2007 when I got my bike.  Now I have clipons, how should I adjust my bike to maximize performance and comfort.  I don't want to go spend the money to get refit unless I absolutely have too.  Right now I don't notice much difference between my position while aero vs being in the drops, my position looks almost identical,

Thanks

Paul (AKA SARGE)  Sorry wife didnt log out.....

Uhm, I was about to say that Paul was really gorgeous!  There is a definite difference between the two. All the bike brainiacs in the group can go into why...but my seat was moved quite a bit to adjust to the change.  I took my aerobars off for winter training and we have been diddling around with the seat position all over again!

With clip on pedals you also have to be concerned with the angle of your foot relative to the pedal. Do these pedals have any degrees of freedom?

I was referring to my aerobars.  I don't have any pics, but maybe when the wifey gets back from the store we can get a couple.  I did shoot a short video one day that I used to see me in various positions.  I'll try to attach it, it is only a minute or two but I do rotate quickly through different positions.
