Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Here's a link to the climb we did on Strava. I haven't uploaded my own ride to it yet to see how I compare/rank, that's cool though how you can do that, if you're the type of person that gets motivated by constant competition amongst your peers. I haven't decided yet if I'm one of those people...

Hey Andy, that's a great ride and brings back good old memories. When I first moved to CA I lived in Woodside and we would ride up Old La Honda and into Skyline Blvd a lot, nothing like riding through the redwoods! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() - Congratulations Samy, Scott, Mark and anyone else who raced this weekend, well done! - Ernesto, that is awesome that you are doing Tahoe! I love that place, but my wife is not full on board with the idea since it's during the kids school year. - Rachel, great swim and have your tried upgrading the firmware to the latest version? That seems to solve most of the bugs. Yesterday a nice rest day and today a 50 min drainer workout - Gabe : S 7 / B 10 / R 10/ Rest Days 2 ; Total = 27; 23:52'30" |

Cool ride for sure. Beyond the climbs and such that are tracked by strava you can create your own segments and see how you improve over time. It gives me that little bit of extra motivation to push through the burn on a hill, etc. |

I am considering doing either the sprint in Saginaw mid July or the oly in Caseville depending on kids schedule. Interested in either? What are the dates Jim? July is already pretty packed for me, but if I can swing one of them I'd consider it The sprint in Saginaw is July 7/22 and the Oly in Caseville is 7/15. I am leaning more toward The one in Saginaw because of drive time. Caseville is only 24 miles from my house but a 3 hour drive The 22nd I'll be taking a church youth group canoeing and the 15th I'll be at Boy Scout camp. Sorry I can't make either of those. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Updated time totals and rest days. Took a recovery day yesterday even though I really didn't feel like I needed to. Really no tiredness or soreness after the race at all. Biggest thing I noticed was the time it took to rehydrate. Maybe there really is something to this MAF training after all..... ![]() - Gabe : S 7 / B 10 / R 10/ Rest Days 2 ; Total = 27; 23:52'30" - Jim:S 6/B 11/9 / Rest Days 2: Total=26; 23:35':38" - Scott: S:5 / B 6 / R 12/ Rest days 4; Total = 23; 18:23:30 - Chris : S 5/ B 7/ R 7/ Rest Days 4; Total = 19; 19:50:02" - Barry : S 6 / B 5 / R 10/ Rest Days 2 ; Total = 20 ; 18:09:02 - Jackie: S 7 / B 5 / R 6 / Rest Days 3: Total = 18; 14:28'57" - Jennie P : S 4/ B 2/ R 8/ Rest Days 4; Total = 17 : 14:02'06" - MatthewS: S 8 / B 6 / R 2/ Rest Days 3 ; Total = 16; 10:57'00" - Rachel : S 7 / B 3 / R 4 / Rest Days 7; Total =14; 25:02'27" - Mike: S 3 / B 5 / R 6 / Rest Days 2: Total =14: 15:44'15" - Scott P : S 5/B 3/R 7/ Rest days 4; Total = 14; 10:51'57" - MarkZ : S 1 / B 5 / R 8/ Rest Days 2 ; Total = 15; 20:27':00" - Andy : S 4 / B 1 / R 7 / Rest Days 1; Total = 12; 12:53':37" - JoeP : S 3 / B 6 / R 3/ Rest Day 4; Total = 13; 15:22:56" - Ernesto : S 3 / B 5 / R 4/ Rest Days 6; Total = 12 ; 13:21'58" - Samyg: S 2 / B 4 / R 4 / Rest Days 6; Total = 10; 8:50'23 - MarkH: S 3 / B 3 / R 3 / Rest Days 0; Total = 9 ; 6:59'00" - Mitch : S 2 / B 5 / R 1 / Rest Days 10 ; Total = 8; 7:49':04 Edited by gobluedds 2012-06-19 9:44 AM |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() In the spirit of sharing the good and not so good moments in training, today I was running on the dreadmill at the gym, watching a soccer game (UK vs Ukraine) and suddenly lost my footing and flew off the treadmill. Of course, everyone around had to watch me falling off and there was not much to do, so I immediately hopped on and continue running like if it was all planned Today 1hr on the dreadmill + 50 min on the drainer.

I was trying to change something and dropped the ipod. Without even thinking about it I bent down to try to pick it up... Cue me flying off the back wondering what the hell just happened. Fortunately that one happened in the comfort of our spare room, so no audience. Still hurt though! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() After two days with some type of a cold and an elevated HR, I got back into the pool for a short 30' swim. Finding it difficult to get motivated without an A race on the radar. Ernesto (et al) : Marathon training starts at the end of July and I'm looking for a good plan to follow. Last year I didn't log enough easy miles and blew up. I think the max my body can handle is about 55 miles per week and my goal would be to run sub 3:30:00. Was thinking about the Pfiz 18/55 program, but I don't see how I could run 5 days a week and still cross-train in the pool and on the bike. Am I better off going all in on the run and shutting down the other sports? I was thinking about another HIM in early September, but not sure whether it is compatible with the marathon training. - Gabe : S 7 / B 11 / R 11/ Rest Days 2 ; Total = 29; 25:42'36" Edited by JoePetto 2012-06-20 8:11 AM |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() JoePetto - 2012-06-20 6:54 AM Higdon's plan has a bit of cross training (bike or swims) on Mondays, truly, no good marathon plan will have a lot of cross training though. The specificity of marathon training requires a lot of running and very little else. If you want to do a good Mary you need to lay down the other two or use it only to recover, if you want to do a good half you will have to reduce running mileage or you will risk injury, but this will hamper your marathon performance.sirgab - 2012-06-19 10:36 PM In the spirit of sharing the good and not so good moments in training, today I was running on the dreadmill at the gym, watching a soccer game (UK vs Ukraine) and suddenly lost my footing and flew off the treadmill. I tend to agree with Ernesto on this. My general yearly plan is Marathon in spring and fall, triathlons in between. I have tended to drop most tri training and just run during marathon training. This worked well last fall at least in terms of the marathon (I did a 3:35:59 in my first marathon) and not as well this spring where I basically dropped off the plan for the last 8 weeks. (There, I think my injury was from running too much. I was on a 20 week plan where I was running up to 65 mpw.) I was able to do well in a sprint tri last August on basically no bike training for weeks before it. But I would never do that for a longer tri. My fall marathon is now 16 weeks away. I should be starting a training program for it now. But I have a HIM (my first) on July 22 and that is my A race for now. I believe what I will do is after the HIM, switch to much more running. I do have a sprint tri in late August, but, again, don't think sprints need the bike mileage nearly as much as the HIM does. Life is tradeoffs. Edited by chris2533 2012-06-20 7:24 AM |
