My wife suggested staying at the hotel that's next to the finish line. I think not. I just want to get home to my own bed. Know what? The after race almost worries me most. I know how bad I got after a debacle of a long ride when I got seriously dehydrated. Cramps, nausea, headache. I'm thinking the night after the race will be miserable... How long of a drive...I remember I couldnt sleep at all and finally around 8am I said take me home! We had about 3.5 hour drive and I tried to eat but couldnt. I think I finally slept that next nite. You're head is still racing around too and it has a hard time shutting off. Im thinking of taking some flexeril muscle relaxers for afterwards this time also....gonna ask the doc what he thinks 30 min.... It's right in town... What's going to suck is the packing the bike and the car... I wish I had a truck I could just throw eveything into. But by the time I finish, I think doing ANYTHING is going to have some level of suckyness. Not a bad idea about some relaxers. I know aspirin or ibuprofen will be part of my diet. If I can think of it, maybe a session of stretching or foam roller. Problem is, I will be done at about 8-9pm. It will be dark, cold and late... I so wish I was fast enough to finish in the day. can your wife have everything picked up for you before you are finished? We had a paper that gave permission and my son picked up my bike and bags and had them at the hotel already before I was even close to getting done with my run..... |

I have no motivation this week. That sounds good! I have a light day of training, so I want to enjoy the day. I"m enjoying tapering. Getting lots of knitting done and caught up on sleep and TV watching. |

That would have given me an extra hour I'm planning on 15 hours, hoping for closer to 14.... I think we start at 6, so that should put me at 8-9. but I could be wrong. I get up at 6 now, and it's dark. So maybe the start is 7. That pushes me to 10... Frick, that's a long day - I still haven't fully grasped that. I don't train without my ipod, so the mind is going to do some serious wandering during the race.... but I don't think the ipod is a crutch. I really don't pay attention to it except for background noise. If it were a story or something, that could be different.. Edited by Aikidoman 2008-10-15 2:07 PM |

Sensei ![]() | ![]() JChristoff - 2008-10-15 12:00 PM IMs still really intimidate me... It would be really cool to do one... but I would really have to talk that decision through with the wife. Yes and yes. I have always wanted to do one. so hear I am. The wife and I discussed it and decided there was no better time than the present... I can't see doing another one, to be honest. Unless it was a fast course at a sweet destination - perhaps over seas. I think I want to stick to short, fast races after this. Who knows though, I might get some weird addiction to them after my first taste. to be honest, the training has been easier than I thought once I got in the habit. that was also intimidating, but not as bad as I imagined. I hope the same goes for the event itself. Edited by Aikidoman 2008-10-15 2:10 PM |

I try not to think about it much, otherwise I would crumble... I get beat up by a 80 mile ride or 17 mile run. That's not even 75% of the distances, and they are done independantly! I just hope that if I followed the plan - it will pan out in the end and I can survive. Edited by Aikidoman 2008-10-15 2:17 PM |
