I should hope not!  but sure you are right! did you know I was watching the doctors show today...and they said that the average person farts 20 times a day...now come on! I must not be average! haha the show was great..they told you all kinds of great things...like never shave the day of your pedicure...much more of a risk to get infections....to think I did just the other day! OMG..I'm going to get some nasty a$$ disease  well probably not....I do have to say I will not shave next time...I will go with the forest of hairs first!!!

Couldn't resist not commenting here....are you saying you toot more than 20 times a day?!

Yep....that whole shaving thing can put you at risk also if you are off to the beach- minor cuts leave you susceptible to staph infections....happened to a friend in the Dominican Rep. Her ankle swelled like she had elephantitis! Stay safe!

that does it...no more shaving for me! looks like I will be living the life of a hairy hairy legged gal! I love the beach and I love pedis! what is this world coming to!??!

You'd fit right in out here in aggie-land, Julie! I've quit noticing the hairy armpits, let alone legs! And the Birks (-enstocks, that is)! Oh boy. We're a bunch of wannabe-Berkers (that's people from Berkeley, CA). Trish

you read me well! I do have a few pair of birkenstocks...and love the simple life...and in the winter months god forbid I wear shorts....cuz the nubs are there...I only shave summers when I know I have to...I think due to laziness...as far as aerodynamics. seems like all my roady friends that are racers shave thier legs...I am really curious.....does it really make that big of difference?

I love my birks even if they get refered to as my 'man-dals' I get too lazy to shave so I figured out how to wax/sugar- once every couple of months- gotta love it.

In terms of dudes shaving...yep sad to say, my dh spends more time on his 'body maintenance' than I do. Not so sure about the aero effects but he has been shaving since riding and swimming in high school. I believe he said that he just prefers how it feels and looks. He did ask me to try sugaring his legs but he was squealing and I was laughing so I don't even know that we finished one leg. lol

Hi everyone.  I am going to try to attach a picture of my new bike - just one for now and just the bike.   If the weather is decent on Saturday, I will ask my wife to take a few more pics.

Well, that didn't work too well.  I tried to attach the pic, but it only allows up to 100kb for an attachment and the quality was pretty crappy.   For now, the photo is in my album:

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/photos/show-album.asp?albumid=8924&photoid=96222

Julie: what's the best way to attach pics?  i.e., what file format?

So much going on here today! I was busy all day hanging out with my son on the University of Maryland campus. He was there to interview for a full academic scholarship; he's already qualified for about a half ride. He's been accepted to the honor program and to a special program within the honor program. I was greatly impressed by the whole program. UMD is not his first choice, in part because it's so close to home. Hopefully he was also impressed and understands how much of a plus it is to get through college with little to no debt. He is such a smart kid and I'm so impressed that he's being recognized for it. I'm a very proud parent!

Go HillSlug son!

Surely he isn't at the house all of the time.  Can you go pick it up when  you know he's gone?  But be sure to bring reinforcements with you!

Dang it. One other thing, the other day I got a brace for my elbow in the mail.  I have tennis elbow if I have not already whined about that.

Anyway, in the package was a sample of "Ibunex" a topical ibuprofen .  You can find it if you do a search for core products laboratories.  I called my pharmacy to see if topical ibuprofen exists, they said "no".  However this stuff worked !  I do not know if it is safe for the environment, or my skin or anything else, but at tihs point in my pain I COULD CARE LESS !  I used the sample and in two days feel better than I have with two rounds of physical therapy, and two cortizone shots !!!  No pain reliever has ever worked or helped (ibuprofen/aleeve/tylenol)........ but this stuff I rubbed on adn I have relief in no time !
Now it may be cow crap dipped in rat crap..........and then lightly scented........  but i just ordered a bottle of it 24.00 or two ounces .  Lots of $$ but I am so happy I am not hurting.  I'll let you know if my arm falls off or the like ! lol
I'll be the guini (sp?) pig for the group............ but so far it's wonderful (and um I am a stay at home mom, so I'm not plugging some company I work for) !lol

have you looked into trigger points at all? They probably would be in your upper arm, shoulder or back. I'm not an expert on upper body TPs. I know it's a long shot, but *nothing else* worked for my feet, and today my left side seems about totally cleared up, and the right is doing so much better. I plan to begin (very cautiously) jogging toward the end of the month. TP are known for causing pain in joins that are often labeled tendonitis, etc. Can't hurt. (well, actually, it does, but what I guess I mean is that it can't make it worse, right?) If I get my Trigger Point book back, I can look it up for you.

Sweet ! Thank you !!!

i haven't asked my pharmacist (aka-my dad) about it before, but there was a thing about topical ibuprofin in a recent runners world-it was either the january or february issue i think-maybe december, but it was recent--anyway, i'll see if i can find the issue and i'll give you the jist of it. but my opinion is-hey if it's working for you, it's WORTH the $24 for 2 OZ.

Thank you my sista !! I used every smidge of that little sample packet ! lol  Now that it's gone it's starting to hurt again.

The icy hot stuff or ben gay etc.. all have what some feel is a tingle, but I get a burn.......pain, and that stuff does not wash off !    I think I used something called aspercream........isn't that aprin in a cream ? lol

I'd love to hear what your dad says about this stuff, (would also like a bit of comfort that it is safe ya know ?)...lol

Awesome, Nicole! You should be very proud indeed! What program is he looking at? Have him do a little math with college debt and being the smart guy he is, it will be pretty clear that he can use his savings at the end to do some great travelling. :) Being close to home has its benefits too... laundry, meals, support.

He's interested in bioengineering. He's been accepted to the honors program and to a special program within the honors program where they become part of a team and work on a research and development project over 3 or 4 years. The program and scholarship would pay for him to go abroad for some studies if he wants.

I think his main issue with being close to home is that my ex might drop in unannounced. I've joke with him that if it would increase his feeling of independence that as soon as he leaves for campus I'd change the locks. He didn't think that was very funny ;)

oh, I just wanted to add this Web site will soon be blocked at work for March Madness. They classify it as a sports Web site. So if I don't get my laptop back, I may not be back on for a while, or at least a lot less infrequently.

I have an appointment with a lawyer in a week and a half. $325 for the initial consultation. I would bet the retainer will be at least $2,000. Can you say "ouch"?

I think she told me that he works from home. I think she's going to have to get the police, or some other agency, involved.

Ha ha ha - my future X's family did that! When we first bought the house, they came by unannounced at 9 p.m. Not nice!

But I would be shocked if your X could get in with the security, though. So all he has to do is not answer the phone.

It's a *good* college (I considered it) - I hope he doesn't dismiss it just because it's close.

Please contact your state services. I'm not sure exactly who you need to contact but if you tell them that your spouse has threatened you with violence and you left the house in a hurry and need to get back in I'm sure they could help you with that. They can probably also help you with legal services.

Julie: what's the best way to attach pics?  i.e., what file format?

I resize mine through HP Photosmart...and dump them in my album....Probably a better way!? when you load your pictures, you can tell them what size you want them downloaded at in your settings...or also can take pictures that are web size in you camera ...so you dont have to resize...did any of that make sense???

Offthegrid - 2009-03-05 8:13 AM another day starting. I slept better last night. I went grocery shopping yesterday and stocked up on my healthy fruit and veggies. The clerk literally asked me what every vegetable was. And this weekend it is my mission to try an artichoke. I'm kinda gonna have a lot of time on my hands.

I can be of use here ! I LOVE artichokes.Even though this is unsolicited advice ! lol
Cut off all the pokey stickers at the end of each leaf with scissors,  wash the little bugger, cut off the long stem so the arti sits flat .. then put it on a steamer basket (water in the pot but no up to the basket).

Bring water to a boil, turn down to simmer and boil that baby for 45 minutes. YUMMMMMMY

I dip mine in mayo (sorry bad bad girl) however lemon juice, low fat butter......all options.  ONLY EAT THE top tender part of the leaf, not the entire thing ! lol  Bit the tip and then pull with your teeth clenched....... that way you do not get the stringy ucky part.

Once you are all the way down to the nothings, scoop out the goop and enjoy the heart at the very bottom.... that's the best part ( some use a knife, I use a spoon to get the hairy stuff out of there" ! lol
Hope this was some use and I did not just ramble for nothing ! lol
