Anyone riding tubeless tires?

I am going with them for my new bike (for training).

Ultegra with Hutchinson Fusion tubeless.

Fred I dont run tubless tires. I have friend that do and they like them. These guys are retired racer. The selection is getting better from what Ive heard. Here in Savageman transition. Smoke on the water and will be a cool start. No race tracking just results.

Go crush it James!!!

Fred D - 2012-09-16 6:36 AM Wheel question?. I currently run 404 clinchers, not firecrest. I didn't run a disc cover t IMMT, but shoud have. What would be a faster wheel choice? Keep the 404s and go back to the cover, OR sell the 404s and buy just a front Zipp 808 FC and use a disc cover on the ultegra rear wheel? I'm thinking the latter, but any input would be appreciated.

I'd say the latter because you're upgrading the front and the rear would be close to a wash, but that's my somewhat uninformed opinion.  My only concern would be what you would do in the event conditions aren't favorable for the cover.  How would you feel about running the Ultegra sans cover?  Or do you have another rear wheel option that would mitigate hat concern?

Kona and Cozumel would be out for the cover and I think a TT under UCI rules? Other than that, the conditions would have to be deplorable to not run the cover IMO.

Fred do you ever (or are considering) do road races where you might want the 404s?  Not sure how good of a wheel they are for that.  Personally I would get the 808 and use the cover.

First swim since the accident three weeks ago!  Felt so good to be back in the water.  Knocked out 1,000 on cruise mode.

Thanks everyone for the concern and support!  We're all miles apart and have a friendship because of a lifestyle.  If only the whole world could be so lucky!

Great to hear you are back at it!

ChrisM - 2012-09-15 10:19 PM Need some quick advice. Have the last race next weekend, a HIM. Not in quite as good shape as the season opener at oceanside, but not bad. Not really following a plan. Question is how far to run tomorrow. I have 2 ten milers in the last three weeks but that is as long as I've gone. Have a few 6s and 7s. It's gonna be hot. Sooooooooo..... Try to get another 10 or 11 miler in? Or go 6ish and start taper?

I agree with the 6-7 recs

In theory the 808FC and disc cover on back will be fastest but I suspect it's minimal compared to 404 front / 404+cover.

Personally I would prefer to have the 404s with race tires + tubes and the ultegras for training. Training with high end tires wears them out.

Another option is to see how much they rent a 808FC for the day. I know Cycle Technique has them for the 70.3 race.

I am in this camp as well. I would likely get tired of having to monkey around with that rear wheel every time I wanted to race. And the 404s are such a great all-around wheel for both tris and road I would keep them - actually thinking about getting a set myself...

Not familiar with the course - has James already earned his 3rd brick or is it too early yet?

Fred D - 2012-09-16 12:37 PM Anyone have an experience with the program 'Finding Freestyle'?

I think Kathy was following it for a while?  I've heard good things but not first hand from anyone.

Rev3 Race Report

That was a great report.  I just wanted to add that your post race comment of "Pouted some" made me laugh out loud for some reason.

. Too early. At Savageman a 6 hr time is roughly the equivalent of a normal HIM 5 hr time and I suspect he started closer to 8am.

Humph. Savageman site only has swim and T1 splits up.

Looks like James had a 3:16 bike split.  Update has 1 finisher so far in his AG.

Sweet - didn't know they would be putting splits up online during the race! He's off the bike in AG second place and a very fast T2, so hopefully that means he is feeling good. The guy in AG third place is only a little bit more than 2 minutes back, but James ran him down on the bike, so hopefully the dude is just a fish. The rest of his AG is pretty well back, so if he is having a day as planned he should be good for the AG podium. Go James!

TSimone - 2012-09-16 3:17 PM 5:49:12 for James, good for 3rd in his AG!  Great job you savage!  I spent some time on Youtube looking at that climb.  Looks nasty...

Yeah, but did he bring home another brick...?

Congrats James - that is a smokin' fast time!
