mn_av8or - 2013-02-28 1:05 PM Feb went waaaay to fast... especially when I have my first half marathon coming up.  I'm not really scared about not finishing but I have a feeling it will be a crap time unless I can finally shed this chest cold.

You'll do fine.  My tips are: line up appropriately at the start, drink when they offer it, bring a gel to have at the halfway point.  If the race is local, ride your bike on the course a week or two beforehand (yes, this weekend!) for familiarization.

Thanks, I only taken gels when I've biked because I was scared of how they would react with me running but I suppose I should try a couple out before the actual race.  Bike the course before the race?!  You realize that I am in Minnesota right? Tongue out

Do they not sell winter riding gear in MN?

They do but I'd have to throw fatties on my bike.  I don't think my bike is meant for that :/

I wouldn't worry about biking the course at all, especially given the MN factor. I don't ever bike the course and it's worked out so far.

I WOULD be sure to try ANY/EVERYTHING you plan to do at the race beforehand. It's terrible idea to try something for the first time on race day, especially nutrition related things.

The point was to become familiar with the course.  That can increase your comfort level.  If the race is local, an easy bike of the course gives a good sense it -- probably a better sense of driving the course or just looking at it on paper.

And definitely what you said -- nothing new on race day!

I know, I was just messing about.  I should however at least figure out what city it is in before the race.

I guess that might depend on what you see on your runs though?  Some things seen might make anything come back up? Yell

Spicy food does me good actually.  Sprinting between bathrooms does the clock good.

Have you ever asked a question, then regretted it when you got the answer?

You've been warned.

LOL!  Marcus, you'll have to go back a couple weeks in Salty's logs.  If I describe it here, I will be excommunicated from the pod!

I dunno why I do this to myself coz DH is adamant we cannot get a dog YET.  But a new adopt a pet store has opened up and I heard a dog barking as I left the mall yesterday so i popped in and there was Bomber. A big dog - got too big so his owners didn't want him and he's confused as to why he's suddenly and orphan.

I need to take DH to see this boy - he is GORGEOUS and he will be a runner!

Hahaha alright alright, you're off the hook explaining it to me.

I just looked up the HM course and I wish I did the 7k course now!  That one runs around downtown while we are stuck running down the Mississippi, hills galore I'm sure, ugh.

Way too much time!

I've just found the "Big Fat Quiz of the Year" shows on youtube, never seen them before but these are kind of addicting.

Uhhh everything. My usual pre long run meal is:

2 eggs over easy

Pan Fried Potatoes topped with tomatoes, cilantro and avacado

Must try!  Sounds yummo, 3 of my favorite foods, especially the potatoes!

And yes, the lack of bike splits on the IM site is driving me batty wondering and worrying about our girl Yanti.

That's probably a lot of food for most people before a 20-miler, but go for it! Smile

I don't think there is anything to worry about. Those athlete tracking sites are BS.
