TheSchwamm - 2007-09-25 4:09 PM When i was in undergrad, i worked in an office on campus. i'd run errands for the professors, make photocopies of articles, send out mailings--just general office stuff. There was a guy in the office, E, who did a lot of the LaTeX setting, images, and graphic design for the professors. E's a great guy, always had something to say about everything. i graduated and got a job with another program on campus through one of the professors in the group, F. He likes to take care of his own, i guess. i've been here a little over six years, now, and a few months ago, i ran into E in the hallway here. i guess not too long after i'd left, E got cancer (mouth, i think. longtime smoker) and then retired. Except the money's running out, and so F is finding stuff for E to do over here, now. i just ran into E in the hallway again, and now he's using a walker. And i don't know what to say or do. i'm just so sad.
That's too bad. Next time when you see him just tell him how nice it is to see him and then let it go from there.
I can understand, too, how awkward it might be. I'm sorry.
Yeah... it was small talk and all. i asked him how he's doing and got a, "It's a little hard to move around, but i'm doing all right." i just... bah.
