Master 1318![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Houston | Subject: RE: Evondo's Group - CLOSED!General rule of thumb is max of 10% volume increase each week with every 4th week being a rest week with a 25% reduction. It's best to spread this out as much as possible to all of your runs throughout the week when building a base. Definitely doable in your time frame just be as consistent as you can and have fun! Emmanem - 2010-02-22 6:05 PM I officially have 33 days until my 10k. Question: what should my running workouts look like for the next 33 days? Yesterday I ran 4 miles for the first time ever and felt pretty good with that. The plan is to run every other day (we'll see how this goes with school and group commitments but it's definitely looking doable right now). When should I increase the distance I'm running and by how much? |

Master 1318![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Houston | Subject: RE: Evondo's Group - CLOSED!I do most of my bike maintenance myself but spokes, replacing bearings and cables are the things I don't mess with. The amount of experience and headache when a bearing race gets stuck or I screw up a spoke doesn't seem worth the $$$ trade off for me. Cables, probably pretty easy but my shop does mine for free so definitely can't beat that gavisk - 2010-02-22 8:51 PM Truing a wheel is pretty easy IF it's not in too bad of shape and IF you have a truing stand. You can do it using your brakes as the gauges, but you won't get it as straight. On the other hand, most bike shops will do it pretty cheap if they don't have to replace spokes or actually "fix" anything. If your spokes are intact but the wheel is pretty wobbly, I'd take it in and pay to have it done. bzgl40 - 2010-02-22 8:04 AM Anyone ever true their wheel? My mountain bike rear tire is in serious need of truing and I am trying to decide where it is on the frustration scale of bike maintenance. Given that I have 5 bikes to keep up (two are not mine) I got a bike stand with the intent of doing all my own work except maybe the occasional overhaul and shock maintenance. But, I also get frustrated pretty easily. |

Newtons1st - 2010-02-23 9:33 AMThanks everyone for the cheer ups yesterday it helped. So to help me get back in good spirits I went and got me some new shoes. I need them anyways. Broke them in last night. So today will be finishing out my goals evaluation. Need to get that finished up today. Also I have convinced the wife that since I missed a race I get to add a race to the plan. Will be looking for something in August to add to the plans. Just to remind everyone, its a lost night. |

I'll be knocking down 24:37's! Y'all can suck it! LMAO! Sorry I have been disconnected el groupo, but last week was stupid and this week started off busy... slowing down now, and finally able to catch up. Emma - 33 isn't a whole lot of time, but you can safely build up to 7 miles and still taper/rest your legs for the race. Try not to increase intensity or distance by more than 10% (+/- 1-2%) each week. Every other day is okay. warm-up, cool-down and the stretching will certainly be key in recovery, to keep up such a schedule. Good luck and remember to have fun with it! |

Triathlete Nation ~ Texas! | Subject: RE: Evondo's Group - CLOSED!I think I am done on the spending money on me for Tri stuff this year already (okay, maybe not... but for a lil' while anyway) I am a proud owner (well it will be here next week) of a Brand New 2010 SRAM S80 front race wheel. I scored a great price of $556.99 w/ free shipping. I scoured the net, contemplated the various models and rim depths... read reviews and finally decided on this one! (I actually decided on the Flashpoint FP80 - but it sold out (for the same price) before I had the chance to oreder it). Zipp/Flashpoint are owned by SRAM - so it's all good. I also ordered a new training front wheel too... from the same place I got my PT wheel. It's a matching DT Swiss rim & PT front hub. So, the SRAM will be a 'race wheel' only. I am super frickin' excited! My next upgrade is the brakes, which should be next week... and everything on my trusty steed will be less than a year old except the frame! It's like having a new bike! So, I guess I can put the thoughts of a new carbon steed on the top shelf for another year or so! LOL! When I said wives I was speaking of Fatty's as well as yours since you said EvD rubbed him too. Ken has already had one assesment and didn't mention anything about a magic elixir. I think he was asleep within 30 minutes of coming in the house but I thought he was just tired from swimming. Eric? Is there something the wives should know? Now I'm a little concerned about my assessment. Which I need to book BTW. |

Well, Eric has been known to have a bottle of magical 'c' elixir! Todd discovered it, and we have all been trying to get some... but that EvD guy is one stingy doooood! You have to have him coach you officially, before you get a rub down! lol! Hence, John's ability to post a faster swim time than me! |
