Yes it was. I appreciated the tickets. I also felt horrible for you, but you got it done! Are you staying at the Gault?

glad to see everyone is getting the mileage in and dealing with the last minute changes!

i went out for my long bike today and was greeted with a torrential downpour that almost made me turn around but thought id rather gain some more mental toughness and if i'm not living life on the edge, i'm taking up too much room.

anyways, a couple of questions. i noticed when i made infinit the night before about a third of the mixture was dissolved and the bottle had been full when i filled it up. i understand it breaking down, however do those of you that use infinit normally make it the morning of the race for the ironman since it's needed after several hours of setting up or do you make it the night before to keep it cool or since it'll be so hot is there no chance of keeping it cool anyways?

secondly, when do those of you that plan on using body glide/ chamois butt'r plan on putting it on and reapplying? i don't know if it would be beneficial to have some at the start of the bike/already put on at the start of the race, and then reapply halfway through bike or at the beginning of the run stage.

thanks and i too would be interested in a BT get together and will be at the gault

Fesslern--Haven't had the nightmares yet. Probably in a couple of weeks. I currently have deja vu on my rides. I'll go up a hill that reminds me of a section on the IM Louisville course. It's comforting and disconcerting at the same time. My dreams do include sections on the course as well...Like I'm heading to Walgreens and have to cut through on Ballard School rd.

Imsmith8: I use Infinit also. I usually mix night before and freeze. Takes about 5 mins to thaw in this weather. I plan on mixing 2 concentrated bottles of Infinit for race. Will freeze both...one goes on bike on race morning and the second I will double-bag on ice in my special needs bag..hopefully it will stay a little cooler. Reminds me...hope my hotel has a mini fridge with freezer?!

Anyone: Getting a new pair of cycling shoes as a present for the training sufferfest. A month to break them in. Anyone else self-gifting before the race?

Soooo, this is a stupid question that I know the answer to, but I am going to ask anyway. I currently ride a 2009 Specialized Allez road bike (Sora/Tiagra components) and the only upgrade I've made to it is slapping some aero bars to the front and getting nice wheels. I always think about getting a new bike and keep an eye on CraigsList for good deals, but I don't feel like it is a worthwhile expenditure for a triathlete on a budget. Today I got particularly frustrated with my bike when I was having a great ride then my rear derailuer somehow got pulled out of whack and my gears stared slipping really bad. After a few stops I was able to get it back into a rideable condition through the barrel adjuster only to have the chain break! I know that isn't the bike's fault, but it sure got me hating my bike as I was walking 4.5 miles in cycling cleats. When someone finally answered the phone and gave me a ride home I found that my neighbor is selling an almost new Cervelo P2C (Dura-Ace components) in his garage sale... And it is my size! I didn't even know he rides, but apparently he did Muncie. I was looking at it and he told me to take it for a few days and see if I like it. I finished the last 25 miles of my ride on it and it is definitely nice. He wants $2,000 for it (complete with Look Keo pedals and Xlab behind the saddle bracket) which is a little more than I probably should spend but I think it's a good deal. The question is whether it is a terrible idea to switch bikes this late in the game when I don't have any 100 mile rides left? I am not certain I will get it anyway (not because I don't want it, but because I don't need it) but I definitely won't if I can't be ready to ride it in Louisville. I need some feedback.

I gifted myself a trek sc 7, and a set of SRAM 60, nice new credit card bill I'll be paying for a while, but man it's noticeably faster than the equinox I was riding. ..... Adam

Ian- I will be using Vaseline or the like for my arse, and nether region, and it will be going on in the morning before the race, and then that's it. Then, it is what it is. It seems like Vaseline is handed out on the course, but I could be mistaken.

Jeremy- If you REALLY want this bike, and it is a good fit so far, see if you can take it for a longer ride....56-60 miles can tell you a lot. If it still feels good, and you want to spend the money, it does sound like a good deal. Yes, it is late in the game, yes it is more than you want to spend...so make sure it fits you well and that it is what you want. Otherwise, have a mechanic at a shop fix your bike, you'll be amazed at how quickly you like your bike again.

Everyone- So far I've got 11 people down as interested in meeting prior to the athlete's dinner, and attending together (this does not count whomever you are with, but of course don't leave your family or significant others out if they are planning on attending the dinner with you. I'm thinking of making a sign on poster board that says,"BT Meet Up," or "Beat Me Up," or "Eat at Joe's"...or something to flag everyone down. More details later. Peace.

In Louisville this weekend, rode the bike course for the first time this morning.  Not as bad as I expected coming from FLAT South Carolina.  The out and back was somewhat gnarly (looked down to see 41 mph) but other than that it was mostly small rollers that I can deal with.  Its been a long time since I've changed gears that much...  Good confidence builder today.

The hardest part was the hour run after.  Man, it was so hot.  There is no way I could have run a marathon today.  Probably could have finished but I would have been walking...a lot.  I finished up just a bit after noon and temp was in the mid 90s.  Hope we see some better temps in a month but not counting on it.

Hope everyone had a great training weekend!  See you soon.

Hey guys....first of all...GOOD LUCK to all you BT'ers who are racing.

I don't want to go back through all of these pages to try to find the answer to this, but my sister is racing IM Louisville for the 3rd time and she has a question.

In all the years passed, there is a huge line for the swim start and the last couple years, I've gone down early to wait in line for her while she dropped off stuff at transition.

We heard this weekend that you can no longer do this (which we both agree is how it should be...and good since I cannot make it this year).

Is this true? Is it going to be blocked off to only athletes only?

Thanks...and again...GOOD LUCK!!!

Hey all, guess what?!? IT'S AUGUST!!! Yeah, I'm at work right now and it's 12:45 am August 1st (0045 in hospital world). It kinda freaks me out that we are in THE MONTH of our IM!! I've got two more tough weeks of training and then 2 weeks of taper! I'm really looking foward to the two tough weeks, but not so much the taper. I think it'll just leave me too much time to think and get nervous. Oh well, it is what it is! This is going to be one of the most exciting months of my life! I'm so excited!

GOOD LUCK IN OUR LAST 4 WEEKS OF TRAINING EVERYONE!

tried out my new speedfill system this weekend on my 98 mile ride. I really love this setup and I drink much better with that straw right in front of me. Also no spilling. I just need to practice refilling the bottle on the fly and figuring out where to stash the refill bottle once I'm done.  NYC Tri this weekend should be a good practice opportunity. Glad to see the sewage spill in the Hudson is cleared out. Didn't really want to be swimming in poop!

We have a LARGE GROUP TRAINING this weekend in Louisville for anyone who is interested (pre-taper).  Saturday, August 6th 7:30-8:30am swim behind Towhead Island and 9:30am bike (80 or 112 miles) leaving from the Yellow Lot on River Road (near Tumbleweeds Restaurant, 1201 River Road, Lou, KY  40602).  We'll have kayakers for safety on the swim (out and backs behind Towhead Island) and SAG/aid out on the course (7 stops for 112 miles with water, ice, Gatorade/Ironman Perform, fruit, peanut butter, energy bars and gu).  Cost is $5/swimmer and $10/biker ($15 total for both).  We should have 40 swimmers and 80-100 bikers averaging everything from 13-14 mph up to the low 20s.  We also hire a security guard/police to watch the cars in the Yellow Lot.  To RSVP please email me at [email protected] .  Last chance before IM Louisville taper.  We also do a long run (9-13 miles) leaving from the same Yellow Lot on Sunday morning 8am.

Rafiki- Cool. I'm thinking about a Bento Box so I don't have to worry about my jersey pockets.

Miami- I have not heard the rumor about athletes only in the swim line. Maybe it will show up in the Athlete's Guide in the next couple weeks.

I'm up for the meetup on Friday and the practice swim on Sat.

My swim will be either shirtless or swimskin.  I have a TYR Torque speedsuit that I wore in Hawaii, but I've been thinking of swimming shirtless to avoid chaffing on what will be a looong swim for me.

Bob,

Do you think there will be a group riding part of the course on Saturday, August 20th?  I have a 2 hour ride scheduled for that day and will be in Louisville already. I would like some company if anyone is up to it.

I would like to meet up with y'all, too, Friday.  Though I've got my family with me, the tix are just too much to get for them.  Still, I'll be there for the meal and meeting.  Look for the bald ... old ... guy ... with glasses, too.  Basically, the most geeky-looking person.
