Okay, I need some Manatee help, stat!

I'm doing the opening speech/prayer for my Dad's memorial tomorrow. To have a young (relatively, that is the youngest) female doing this is highly unusual, but even more unusually, that's exactly how Pa would have wanted it.

Needs to be a completely neutral, nonsectarian prayer. We got any Universalists in the house?!

Anyway, I've prayed about the prayer and I'm sure I'll be given exactly the right things to say but I would love to hear your input on encouraging, respectful, even unusual or interesting things I might include.

Eeks, I got nothin but I'll be thinkin' of ya!

4agoodlife - 2013-04-24 11:26 AM After getting off phone yesterday, I took the kids for a bike/scooter ride to the mailbox. Our neighbor has a new puppy...hard to be sad when I'm watching this.

Adorable.  That's one of those situations where you don't know who is chasing who.

So, I didn't drown in the pool last night!!!

Surprisingly I had more fitness than I expected. I am 100% sure I can't say the same for my form but I was able to finish the workout without the lifeguards jumping in!!!

I will say though, I think I had them a little nervous when I was attempting the drills. What a cluster.

*And just to emphasize how long it had been, I couldn't find my goggles because they were still in the sleeve of my wet suit from my last triathlon (that was August 2012 ...)

You have no idea how happy this makes me.

Hey, whatever you're into. I don't judge.

Speaking of fcuk drills, one drill I absolutely cannot do is Superman (where you stretch one arm out, one by your side, and kick on your side). I can't even do it with fins. I sink and splutter water. And I'm really naturally (as well as ... uh ... well-padded) buoyant, so I have no idea what's up with that.

Oh, and more speaking of fcuk drills, you'll be very happy to know that Sheila frequently incorporates dogpaddle. I know it's because I sent her that one e-mail. She said so!

happyhappyhappySaltyhatesmeSheilalovesmelalalala

I really hate Sheila right about now, though, so it all works out.

Go to a big sports store with a good goggle selection. Take 'em out of the packets, lean forward, and without using the head strap, very lightly suction them onto/into your eye sockets. They should stay on your face comfortably with very little suction.

Post in the WI forum with that one. It has a lot more to do with venue and where the sun comes up and what direction you'll be swimming in.

You missed the hallelujah-my-dad-is-dead post?!

No, I didn't kill him off, but the President did. Oh good, you reminded me to ask my sister about security. She's insanely super snappy with all that stuff but both of us have just been dealing with so much and so many details lately, never hurts to double check. Especially about something like that.

No, but I have a good friend who is and does sermons at her UU church.  Want me to ask?

Sure, why not? If she doesn't mind. And if she does, no worries, I'll just include some flipper flaps or something.

She won't mind.  She's awesome like that.

Of course she is. Look at her taste in friends.

Here's what she says:

Yes, advice.

Remember that there are only two possible elements to a prayer:
“thank you”
and “help”

If she just wants my straight-up recommendation, I very often use this one:
http://www.worldprayers.org/archive/prayers/invocations/d...

It is a prayer for peace to the departed and healing for us behind and cut out about the last 5 or 6 lines to avoid any specific religion. That’s completely fine.

If she’d like to look around that site a bit, here’s the prayer index:

Also any tips for not looking like the devil when I get out of the pool?

It's bad. My eyes are blood red, terrible goggle lines (I have a tiny head and have to crank down on the goggle straps just to get them to stay on my face)

Don't look like the devil when you get in the pool?

ahem

seriously, have you tried kids' goggles? I also have a tiny head and I wear the kids ones.  They fit better.  And have foam so they don't stick as hard to your eye socket.

This is most helpful. Please thank her and let her know I will be silently and thankfully including her in the prayer
