I wear Asic Gels....and on occasion my Newtons love both! totally different feels in both shoes...what do you wear? Running and my feet haven't really gotten along very well: I started out with Asics Gel Evolution-II, high motion control, and then still needed to add custom orthotics because of ankle pain. Went through two pairs of those. When I then went for new shoes I found that compared to other shoes the newer Gel Evolutions plus my orthotics felt like too much motion control. So, I tried a whole bunch of different shoes and ended up with New Balance 768's. They are still motion control but not extreme motion control. To continue my foot saga, I started getting pain in the ball of my right foot and numb toes right after I switched over fully to the new shoes. When it didn't go away I went back to my foot and ankle doctor who said that the new shoes had irritated the nerve in the sole of my right foot. He predicted that if I stayed with them that the irritation would decrease and the problems would go away. He was right. He made the general recommendation that if you find a shoe brand that's working well for you that you should stay within that brand since they tend to make the whole line with the same shape foot last. When you change brands you risk adding in new problems. So, it looks ike I'll be staying in New Balance for a while. Wow, that was a very long winded answer to a straight forward question! My bad! no it was just thorough! |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good luck to Julie and Alyssa tomorrow! Exciting times....Have fun! Trish, so relieved to hear that you came out of it relatively unscathed. Do get a bell/horn for your commuter or don't be afraid to yell "on your left" and give them time to move- some folks seem to take longer to process. As much as I love cycling, it does scare me....my husband has been knocked off his bike several times by cars and buses and has been fortunate to be able to walk away each time. I have 5 stitches on my chin from a spectacular mountain biking endo- it was over Labour Day weekend so I started back my first day of classes with the hugest Jay Leno-esque chin. I was known as Ms. Chin for awhile.

I guess this guy knew his stuff! Does he know anything about wrists and hands? I have been in my Asics for years.... 2100 series and Kayano's. I did end up having to go up a half size and width when I started getting a numb foot in the last 2 miles of a marathon and it was suggested that I have my foot resized. Lo and behold- they had changed. I did buy a pair of Newtons last year but haven't spent much time running in them- I have heard so many stories about injuries and they don't seem to have much posting so I am pretty nervous about putting much mileage on them. Julie, are you a pretty neutral runner? Did you need much time to adjust? |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm so glad that daylight savings time starts on Sunday. That means opportunities to bike after work -- WOO HOO! I'm shifting FOCUS again, and now I'll be concentrating on biking (well, hopefully so...). Anybody need a challenge? Can you think of one? I'm heading off to a meeting, but I'm sure my mind will wander some. Maybe I can come up with an idea? |

Julie, are you a pretty neutral runner? Did you need much time to adjust? Actually, we told me to rest it (I didn't) and also offered a cortisone shot (I declined it). For the sake of brevity (ha!) I neglected to include that by the time I actually got in to see him the problem was improving so he figured it would continue to improve as my feet adjusted to the shoe and visa-versa. His specialty is the lower extremity. I have a different guy for hands and wrists (it took two tries to get a good one). |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Also wanted to share how excited I am about my workouts yesterday. Using the 0-1650 swim program, I was able to link 1000m straight in 26:20! I would never have thought that possible when in September it was taking me an hour to do 1000m! And then from the pool, I went up to the track to meet the tri club for our workout. We had to do a 1000m TT and I broke the 4 min barrier! I shaved 4 sec off my time in January. 1000 might just have to be my new lucky number! ![]() |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() run_yc_run - 2009-03-06 10:58 AM weird as it is I didnt have to start with what they call the trainer shoe...when I demo'd a run for them they said I already tended to run on my soles so I went directly to the stability racer style...I like them, but I could see why others may not! many I talked to said they got shin splints from going from flat foot running to on your toes...and most did not work their way into the shoe like they should have they just put them on and ran like they always did. I suggest that you wear them on short runs. And stretch after...legs may be a little sore the next day...so dont do this close to a race day...have you worn them at all? what did you get the trainers? racers? or all weather trainers? Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I went to mall to get a cell phone charger (my battery died, and I can't find charger), and just for kicks I went into a "normal" size clothing store. I typically have to pay the high prices of Lane Bryant for pants because of my big bootie and thighs. I CAN WEAR 'NORMAL' PEOPLE CLOTHES!!! No more paying ridiculous prices for ugly plus-size clothing. I am so excited! I tried on a pair of 16 pants, and they were too big. That was just for kicks, though. The cool part was I found a really sweet red jacket for only $19.99. And guess what size I needed? Huh? Guess? NOT an X-large, BUT A LARGE!!! So that definitely game me the little ego boost that I needed. In any case, no junk food or sugar today, although I was quite tempted when I had to run into the grocery store to get toothpaste. (roomie is gone tonight and she needed her toothpaste.) Edited by Offthegrid 2009-03-06 8:40 PM |
