cobratodd - 2013-02-25 7:38 PM Question for the group: What is your typical 5k warmup ritual?(If you're running an all out race)I'm asking because I'm finding that as I train for longer runs, my short runs suffer, and it really takes longer to "warm up" for an all out sprint - is a 1/2 mile, mile, 20 minutes enough/too much?

If I run out of my house I'll do 15 minutes light on the trainer. If I run out of the Y I'll do either a 15 minute light swim or 15 minutes on the elliptical. I'm talking recovery pace effort no matter what the warmup.

Okay thanks for the input - it seems like 15 to 20 minutes is fine for a 5k - I've always been really bad about NOT doing any warmup running before a race, but this year I'm really trying to follow advice of those more experienced as well sticking to the training plan.

Back to an earlier post, I wasn't sure what the difference was, or even what a TT start meant, but after reading up a bit, I now understand that difference.  TT = wave start versus the traditional MASS start of the IM - yes, I'm in the slow group...

I also see the issue with not having your finish photo reflect your actual time and that stinks.  Last year at the Timberman, I was in wave 8 of 15 and with 4 minutes between waves, that's a 28 minute bust from the actual time, sure, it's only the photo, but then everyone you show it to, you'd have to explain the difference away - boo-hiss!  I'd almost rather deal with the insanity of a mass start - after the first 30 minutes, the chaos must mellow out, to where swimming with 2,599 other Type A personalities is okay.

I checked the IMLP website and the Swim page is still listing it as a MASS start - I guess there's not much you can do about it eitherway, so I'm not going to stress over it - they both have +'s and -'s.

1:10 on trainer done and yoga and core this afternoon.  I've adjusted to the new trainer, so that's good.  I'm not sleeping very well at night lately, and I have no idea why.  I'm more energetic than ever during the day, and I'm spending most of the day on my feet, chasing my kids around and doing housework.  Maybe I'm overtired or something.

Frederick's 3rd birthday is tomorrow.  Can't believe my last baby is turning 3.  Makes me feel so sad  My sister is STILL pregnant.  41 weeks 5 days.  She goes in for a check on the baby today.  I can't stop thinking of the baby.  I hope everything is OK, and my sister's labor is swift and soon.

Aw I know! I saw a little 18 month old today and I thought "I could just eat him" he was so cute... I can't believe my kids were ever this little (my girl is almost 11 and my boy 8).

Ack... I am worried about yr sis too....keep us posted.

I was getting dressed for my long run this morning (at 4:30 a.m.) and got a text from one of my younger sisters.  My brother-in-law delivered my niece at 4 this morning.  The midwives didn't make it there on time.  SurprisedSurprisedSurprised  Absolutely frightening, IMO.  Anyway, her name is Elizabeth and she is beautiful.  She also shares a birthday with my little Freddy.  If she's anything like him, then she is going to be a positive, energetic, fierce spirit.

My long run went really, really well, and I didn't get injured.  Hooray!  I've been sipping sports drink for my long runs, but I'm going to switch over to gels next week, as that's what I'll be using for my April and May HMs.  5 weeks until race time.  Yay!

Congrats Jen.

Mile repeats this morning.  Better than last week, so that's a good thing.  I could use a nap now however.

Thanks.  My biggest worry at this point is pacing.  I have no doubt that my training will have me ready for both Galveston and Texas, but I'm pretty good at overcooking a bike.

Well minus the swim the other two aren't very impressive, LOL, but thanks. I do like formatting my recovery days like this though.

everlong - 2013-02-25 9:54 AM So my daughter has a soccer tournament the weekend of 3/9-10 which was when I was going to do my half marathon that I did the past two years so I'm officially out for that. I'm debating if I want to do another HM or if I want to just focus on my HIMs which is really what this season is about for me. I could always do one in September after my second HIM.

Come up to Maine in October for the Maine Marathon/half marathon. It's pretty, kind of challenging. I'm going to do it....not that is an incentive or anything.

Are you doing the full or the half? I'll have to see what the fall soccer schedule looks like but if I wait until the fall I may go full marathon.

http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/798329

Course is reasonably flat.

This is in North Hampton and I considered it last year. Same day but a lot closer for me.

http://www.hamptonrockfest.com/

Even flatter!

If you're looking to PR, I would push it further out than September.  There are a ton of HMs in October to pick from.

I think I could PR no problem in September. I tweaked a calf in the race I set my last PR in and couldn't push the second half of the race. If I wanted to shoot for a goal such as sub 1:40 no doubt I'd be much better off in October. The issue is I'd rather be building speed again on the bike in October than training for an HM. I'm pretty sure I know my 2014 plan already, unlike this year where it took me forever to nail it down. Charleston SC HIM in April, Timberman HIM in August and Beach to Battleship IM in October. So I'm not sure about a fall HM or marathon given that's what the long term goal is. I'm still mulling it over.

There are so many pro-like inviduals on here that I feel like I don't belong in this group.  I really need a group where it's primarily beginners not seasoned triathletes.  I'm kinda of feeling my way and others talk about this drill, that training technique, this split, that brick.  I'm lucky if I get in all three disciplines done in a week!  Nothing against this group at all, but so much of what is posted goes over my head.  I am not in the same league here.  Embarassed

Trust me, there are no pro-like anything in here.  We're all just AG'ers too.  Some of us have just been in the group for 2+ years.  Yikes.  Anyway if you have a question about a drill ask away.  We'd be more than willing to explain.  We were all once just starting out too.  The only way I gathered knowledge about the sport was by searching it out and asking those more seasoned than I.

x2 on this. I was in your shoes last year. No question is a stupid question on here. That is what is great about this group. Everyone is here to help each other because we have been where you are at.

That's so nice of your mother!!!!  Let me know what you think of The Feed Zone.

My mom said she'd buy me a sonic endurance swimsuit, but then she never followed through with it (and I didn't feel like begging ).  Maybe she'll suggest it in time for the second round of orders.
