LowcountryTRI - 2007-09-26 11:34 AM Scout... How many miles do you get out of a pair of running shoes?

I rotate mine... four pairs right now. I found the Asics start to wimp out around 300 for me... but the Mizunos feel like they'll go forever, so far.

I'm thinking it's a really good thing I don't live near that place. Burgers, dogs, fries & onion rings, shakes, and BEIGNETS!!

Depends.  With my Mizunos, I can do around 400-450.  I had a pair of Brooks, they started causing me serious foot pain after about 200 or so.  I don't wear Brooks anymore.

So do you know go with straight mileage or do you wait till something  starts to feel "wrong"?

Combo of both, really.  I track the mileage, so I can see a correlation between total miles on them, and when I start to notice discomfort.  I can say that I start to notice pain in my feet, and lower legs.  That's usually the first sign that it might be time to check the shoes.

I think it's important to track those trends over time, too.

I typically get between 300-400 out of my asics.  I am likely to retire my shoe before it gives me problems.

I alternate between 2 running shoes and track the mileage on BT.  When I feel like end is near, it becomes my gym shoe.

I track mine too.  I've got Mizuno's and I'm sitting at just over 300 miles.

I'm curious, do these pains come during the run or after?  I ask because my last couple of runs I've started to notice some joint pain in the knees (just ever so slight, nothing major) and the occassional ankle pain.  I'm not too bad, though, after the run.

Don't bother looking at my logs.  I still track at Training Peaks for now.

When my shoes are dying, i feel it during the run. It makes sense, too, that as the magic dust falls out of your shoes, they're less able to cushion and support you in the manner to which you're accustomed.

I feel it more during the run.  Not so much after.  Which to me is usually a sign to look at the shoes first.  I generally feel it in the balls of my feet.

Don't feel bad, I track stuff elsewhere, too.

Oh, there's a reason.

No drink. No sex. Too much food. Not enough running. Too little sleep.

I'm going to drink, get some, not eat, run and go to bed.

Not necessarily in that order.
