uhcoog - 2013-02-28 8:40 AM4k in the pool today.  My shoulders are toast.  Tabata intervals on the  trainer later.
4k?!!?! One day...I am sure you are burnt toast after that.

Yeah. My long swim jumped from 3k to 4k this training block.  It's good since I have swim endurance issues, but it's torture to see people come in after you and leave before you over the hour plus that you're in the water.

Congrats on the swim test, well done.

Agreed that we are all just weekend warriors and not pros.

Not bad for a 28 day month. +24 miles biking, +2000 yards swimming and -2.5 miles running from January in 3 less days.

February's totals:
Bike:23h 35m - 427.8 Mi
Run:12h 35m 17s - 81 Mi
Swim:6h 07m  - 17400 Yd

For me, January was a rough month because of the plague running around - I hope that is all behind us now.  February was actually more productive for me in regards to training volumn because my first week of the year was shot due to a cold.  I will say that my muscles really feel the increase in volumn now; it has taken since November for it to hit me; by the time I reach the mid-part of the third week, I am so ready for a recovery week (speed drops, endurance drops, power drops).

I had arranged for a deep tissue massage for the last week of the month, each month through August - it started off as part of my recovery week, and because the training program is based on 3 weeks hard, 1 week recovery, and with a typical month being about 4.25 weeks long, I'm out of phase now; where the massage is right in the midle of the first hard week in the block of 3 - OUCH.

Not sure if I stay the course or align the sports massage to fall on recovery weeks - does it make any difference?

I've switched from 3/1 to 2/1 with the weekly increases being greater to make up the difference and its been working well for me. Not for everyone but something to consider.

luv2bhealthy - 2013-02-27 3:39 PM There are so many pro-like inviduals on here that I feel like I don't belong in this group.  I really need a group where it's primarily beginners not seasoned triathletes.  I'm kinda of feeling my way and others talk about this drill, that training technique, this split, that brick.  I'm lucky if I get in all three disciplines done in a week!  Nothing against this group at all, but so much of what is posted goes over my head.  I am not in the same league here.  Embarassed

Trust me, there are no pro-like anything in here.  We're all just AG'ers too.  Some of us have just been in the group for 2+ years.  Yikes.  Anyway if you have a question about a drill ask away.  We'd be more than willing to explain.  We were all once just starting out too.  The only way I gathered knowledge about the sport was by searching it out and asking those more seasoned than I.

x2!  Just keep asking questions.  I think I've asked more questions than anyone else in this group.  It's the only way you learn.  Most days I still feel like a beginner.

Norma - you're not the only beginner here.  I'm right there with you, marveling at how people can do this much working out in a day and wondering what a "tabata interval" is.  I just usually keep quiet about these things so people'll think I'm smarter than I actually am.  Jen's right, though.  We should swallow our pride and ask our rookie questions.  You and I can bring up the rear!

Tabata intervals:  20 seconds all out, 10 second recovery, repeat 8 times.  I've seen this extrapolated out to really long durations (2 minutes all out, 1 minute recovery) which I'm not a fan of, but by definition it's 20/10.

Typically on the bike.  Just a different kind of interval training really.  It lets you gauge your ability to recover.

OK, that's a deal!  No pride here.  I'm not good enough to have any pride!  LOL!  But I do know what a tabata interval is because I teach them in my class.  I just don't know what questions to ask.  I go to the pool and swim.  I get on the bike and ride or do a spin class.  I run.  That's my training.  So, I guess I'll just read others posts and learn that way.

Looks like everyone had a great month!

Here are my totals. I have to laugh - My swim yardage is about half of everyone elses for similar time. I am THAT slow. That is a little depressing. And if I ever see 4K on my swim schedule, I would need a full day for that!LOL

Bike:17h 45m  - 277.76 Mi
Run:12h 50m 42s  - 71.3 Mi
Swim:3h 50m  - 8300 Yd

45 minutes on foot today with strides.

Cindy isn't progressing so they won't schedule her for an induction.  She's crushed, and it doesn't help that her doc is going to be on vacation during spring break so if she goes that long it will be who ever is on call.  Sigh.  Angry, sad, tired pregnant women are no fun.

Ok.  February totals.  I don't know my mileage on indoor biking or my running, so I've left those out.  Nagging aches and pains related to getting used to running have prevented me from increasing my mileage there as quickly as I'd like, but I figure it is better to take it easy than to rush things.  Hopefully I'll feel ok to increase some in March.  Also, looking forward to the arrival of outdoor cycling weather!

Febraury was a tough month for me.  Banged up my knee, dealt with chest cold and athsma issues and have also been struggling with weight issues.  After lots of testing, I finally (hopefully) figured out that I have been more or less significantly under eating for the last few years, have crashed my metabolism and my body, in response to the significant under eating, is storing everything as fat.  so rather than loosing weight, I've been steadily gaining 1-2 lbs per week for the past few months.  Not good.  I'm working with a RD and a psychiatrist (I was also diagnosed with an eating disorder) trying to get everything back into perspective.

Its more important to align you massage micro cycle wise rather than meso cycle wise.  What I mean is its more important to make sure your massage isn't right before a key workout than it is to have a massage in a recovery week.

Make sense?

On further review, well, how do I say this, I posted the wrong numbers...  Embarassed  The ones I posted are for the year to date.  Here are the (much more reasonable-sounding, now that I think about it) ones for February:

Bike:4h 50m
Run:6h 16m 54s
Swim:10h 05m  - 23943.79 Yd
Strength:2h 30m

Sorry for the confusion <puts tail between legs in shame>.

Wow, you never expect a triathlete to have an eating disorder, but I guess it can happen to anyone. I use to have a woman in my class who did two-three workouts per day trying to get ready for a Hawaiian vacation and at the same time, counted ever calorie she ate, but couldn't understand why she wasn't losing weight. I told her she wasn't eating enough to fuel her body with the amount of activity she was doing. She got mad and didn't return and she'd been coming for two years. Sorry you are having this issue, but glad you are receiving the help you need.
