![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well damnit. Was walking in my backyard this morning with my dogs, and managed to step on something sharp, not sure what it was, but I started bleeding like crazy, not it feels like my entire heel is bruised :/ No running or anything for me today.. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Check-in: Did 2000 in the pool today. That's out of band for me since this is usually a run day, but the kids changed up my plans and I was more than happy to skip a day on the legs. It was really going to be a "walk on the treadmill" day anyway. This was much better. I ran into an old friend again at the YMCA (who is also doing the same two races as me) and he showed me the swim workout for the triathlon training class. I did the same workout and I think I'm going to continue to do that from now on. I wasn't very structured in the past, and continually going for the distances was getting a little boring. This broke things up and also kicked my butt. I think I needed that. Devon With the spill on the bike and the sore heel I think it may be time for a little swimming. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Devon that is terrible luck! Dave O - That's good you are getting more structured! I also find that swimming planned workouts is easier than just getting out there and doing a certain distance. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I agree with Kate, those graphs are really neat! I've just started using Garmin Connect (find me! I am nicole14e, same as on here), and haven't even begun to utilize all the features. I think it's neat though how it connects with MyFitnessPal. This will be good motivation to start using that again to track my food intake. I have not heard much about the run/walk technique. I will have to research it. My legs have definitely been struggling lately with all the running I've been doing (I've always had shin splints and have had 3 stress fractures in the past). |

![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Devon - terrible luck indeed! Definitely swim time. Charles - thanks for the info, I'll look into that. I've heard more and more about running and walking. For anyone not familiar, it's what most of the 'couch-to-__k' programs are based off of, though those work from lots of walking with very little running in the intervals, all the way up to running the full distance. I used the 10k program when rehabbing from my ankle sprain and shin stress fracture last Fall. I only did a 5k after, but PRd it. The biggest thing for me is checking the ego. I'm so damn stubborn with that... |

When was your last tetanus shot? My wife suggested I get one after I dug a chainring into my calf at a panic stop. Might be worth the trip to the clinic |

The mechanics are here: http://www.jeffgalloway.com/training/magic-mile/ Galloway uses a standing mile as a baseline, but you can play with the numbers based on a recent race to get something that makes sense for you. I also think the specifics don't make a huge difference, but rather simply using the run/walk breaks as to what feels right. I should probably click down to 2:30/1:00, but, well, the ego . . . I also feel bad when I run with a group, since I don't do the run/walk with them, because, again, the ego . . . |

Charles, check me if I'm reading this wrong but checking the schedule he's provided, as long as you use cross training, it's 2 distance run/walks a week plus a full run once a week. I'll need 3 run days once I start HM training anyway. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() hey everybody sounds like mostly good going on. Dave sorry to hear about the job. Nichole I sent you a garmin connect request I have a upper respiratory infection which has sidelined me for the last 2 days. I can feel/hear it when I breath and I haven't eaten much in 2 days. I did a bike ride yesterday but decided to push aside my stubbornness and sat out completely today (even called in sick to work). I am just resting and trying to eat some soup. I feel a little better but it may be the flonase, clariton D, musinex, and oregano oil. On the bright side I am 5 lbs down in the last 2 days hahhahaha Plan to do my swim tomorrow then rest friday and Saturday and if I feel up to it still plan to run the marathon this weekend. I am Waiting on my tax return to pay for my IM (500 for the right to be miserable really). Hope everyone's training will maintain and improve as race season gets into full swing. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() DAMN! Scott I hope you're back to 100% before the marathon! Been down this week too. Sunday night started a stomach bug, and I didn't eat anything for more than 24 hours - looking forward to the weight check tomorrow, lol. Been completely wiped out though, the day of 0 calorie intake takes it's toll. Was going to swim tonight but I am having trouble typing right now even. Tomorrow is run day and that gets me excited though! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sorry to hear so many sick! I hope you are on the mend quick. This winter was a zinger for viruses. My husband told me there were only 6 / 40 kids at preschool yesterday - that is not a good omen for our future health. Especially since the teachers said it was multi day projectile vomiting! I am sore today after a hard run last night. I am running so much more in this coaching program and overall feel great. Might just take the dog for a walk today to try and loosen up my left calf a little. I'm trying to take good care of myself! |

New user ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hello - I was traveling on business most of March and missed the cut off date for the shirts. Both my wife and I would like one and the pricing for 2 is only $6 more that the 2-24 range. Any way we could get the store re-opened or could you send me info on how I could do it? Thanks! Originally posted by cwpeters Originally posted by Snewo Check-in: Workout #2 for the week is in the books. I did 10 miles on the stationary bike today. Low resistance, just keeping the legs honest. I still have one muscle that's sore. It seems like I'm always right on the hairy edge of being ready for the Tuesday workout. Sunday is my long run and I guess I'm pushing it just a tad too much. I'm usually ready for the next run (Thursday) and I should be again this week. Since this Sunday should be a shorter run, I'll see how I feel by next Tuesday as a test of my theory. Shirts: Our team store is now READY! The pricing is currently set for 6-24 pieces. If we are going to have more than 24 people buying, then it could click down one more level in pricing. Here is the pricing link to show what I mean: http://www.jakroo.com/pricing/ As for our team store.... http://shop.jakroo.com/storefront/BDAS Please post a Yeah! or Nay! as to whether you plan to purchase one with your next post. I'll use the roll call of who plans to order one to see if we will be greater than 24. I'll count up the totals over the next week. Once we have the price set, the goal is to order by March 31st and for delivery by April 21st. Probably should have read the entire message BEFORE ordering! So Yes, I will be (already have) ordering a jersey. Awesome job on getting this put together and organized. Thank you. |

My legs have definitely been struggling lately with all the running I've been doing (I've always had shin splints and have had 3 stress fractures in the past). Nicole, I'll look for you on Garmin Connect! I honestly don't know what my "handle" is. LOL i have group of friends here who all run/walk and have done both half marathons and full marathons that way! I am cleared to start this tomorrow - though super slowly, like 100 yds of running at a pop. We can all do a virtual run/walk together! haha Praying the knee takes it! If I end up attempting the HIM in June, this is what I'll have to do. It will still be an amazing workout and experience and hopefully keep injuries to a dull roar. Tough week last week on the workout front. Two kids with stomach bugs and they each took a good 2-3 days to get over it after the volcano stopped! (re: Easter weekend was spent hunkered down eating crackers and soup and ginger ale.) It was a tough one for them. Hubby was gone all of last week and I was working two jobs - so staying up past midnight every night. Tuckered out. I had a short bike Monday while 2nd child was home sick and yesterday I got a swim in. I was supposed to swim today but paperwork to catch up on and last night was past midnight again (what's up with that???). Tomorrow I fly in the morning so I should be in the pool by 1:00 for a longer swim. ![]() ![]() I look forward to receiving the bike shirt in a few weeks! By then the streets should be cleaned up! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Evening all! Woke up early this morning feeling great. Got back in the gym to lift for the first time in 3 weeks or so and had a great session. Strength is down a little from the last time I went, but my form felt good. Did mostly Bi/tricep super sets, with some solid core work at the end. Going to try and integrate lifting back into my routine. After I left the gym I ran over to my local FleetFeet and picked up a pair of ultrathin running socks that the girl helping me recommended, also picked up a few Gu's, with recommendations by one of the owners to go with the Roctane version for the extra sodium and potassium to combat some of the heat around here. Got home and changed and hit the campus lakes, one of the prime running spots in the area. Ended up actually running my farthest run so far since starting, did a mile steady run/.25mile slow...for 6.5 miles. My compression sleeves I picked up the other day worked fantastic. Hit a stride of cramps at about mile 4..popped a GU, about 50yds from a water stop, only to find it didn't work..in fact 3/5 of the water stops along the way didn't work. Shirt came off at about mile 5, and let all the jiggle hang out, ran it all the way in head held high, with not a care in the world. Legs are sore tonight, so I went home and washed my compression socks before work to get some recovery in...decided to go buy a fuel belt so a lack of water and fluid didn't happen again. I'm really starting to enjoy this... Have a good night all, I've gotta work until 3AM 0.o |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sorry for not being super active on the posts but I have been following everyone. Training for this HIM took a bunch of my time and effort. We are leaving mid day tomorrow and I plan on disconnecting from anything social media related to try and enjoy the entire weekend. (well that's the plan anyway, lol) I'm about as nervous ad a long tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs! I actually got a bit of panic at swim last night until I got my warm up done. Odd but I guess that's par for the course considering. I think I have pretty much everything covered as far as my gear and nutrition goes. Someone gave me the tip, "don't race it just train it, anything will be a PR so enjoy every minute. You can use your next 70.3 to improve on your time." I am planing on putting a sticky note on my aero bottle that says SLOW DOWN! I have heard too many horror stories about people blowing up on the bike and walking/suffering the entire run. Guess this is going to be my warmup for IMFL. Hey David....guess it's time to suck it up Nancy Boy! Edited by Burd 2015-04-09 8:13 AM |
