LowcountryTRI - 2007-09-26 11:34 AM Scout... How many miles do you get out of a pair of running shoes?

I rotate mine... four pairs right now. I found the Asics start to wimp out around 300 for me... but the Mizunos feel like they'll go forever, so far.

Willies for LUNCH!

http://williesburgers.com/16TH.html

I'm thinking it's a really good thing I don't live near that place. Burgers, dogs, fries & onion rings, shakes, and BEIGNETS!!

Heh. I'm thinking about jockstrapping (or, if I get the wetsuit before then) DOING the Golden State Tri (as a practice race - I'll be hosed from my long run the day before). Wanna come over? Its Oct. 14th.

Looks like fun! Depending on how my legs are feeling, maybe I'll even do it.

mr2tony - 2007-09-26 1:18 PM I'm fu**ing cranky for no reason.

Oh, there's a reason.

No drink. No sex. Too much food. Not enough running. Too little sleep. I'm going to drink, get some, not eat, run and go to bed. Not necessarily in that order.

Go find that chick that has bigger guns than you. That would be scary.

Speaking of scary... I'm getting a free wetsuit.

Sweet! Now, when are you getting it?

Wade's out today. Probably next week, unless he brings it into work. Its a Body Glove (answering tony).

And, anyone who thinks I didn't run my azz off at Buffalo Stampede... I was hurting, man, and maybe I'm a little time-obsessed:

It looks like you're flipping off that guy. Why would you do that, dbag!?

I'm still proud of you for running 10 miles.

And being able to voice obscenities at people as you crossed the finish line.

Hey, they don't even KNOW what Big 10 football is out here. LOL

Putting that race in perspective, I AM improving. Last year, I ran a 15K on 11/4 and did a 9:34 pace. This was at 8:52. I went out hard both races, and ended up with the same calf cramping issues in my left leg with about 1-2 miles left. I run much better when I go out close to my goal pace.

I'm kind of excited about the Cowtown Half a week from Sunday.

Hey, that's improvement!  Good job.

Like the photo too.  At least you aren't looking at your watch.

Thanks on the avatar and thanks.

I would've liked to improve MORE, but my emphasis has been on endurance and not speed work. Kind of hard to do both at the same time.

Thats why you do a Base-Build and THEN a Build-Peak.

Keep it up mate.  Good to see some improvement.  I did a 5k a few weeks ago.  Got the whole thing under 26:00.  Now my next goal is to get it under 25:00.  And so on.  But those times will be for next year.  The winter will be building up that base endurance.  Which will not be fun here in the frozen midwest.

The drainer and dreadmill are our friends, kind of like furry forest creatures.

Come on, man, you don't need a dreadmill in Sacramento. Unless, that is, you're really wimpy about running in rainy and/or slightly chilly weather. The coldest it ever gets up there is low 40s, maybe high 30s. It gets a bit colder down here, but only by a couple of degrees.

Anne, I was referring to the Frozen Midwest Winters... since I'm from Iowa, I know EXACTLY what he's talking about. You can really mess yourself up running in - 0F weather.

Ah yes. Carry on, then.

Ah yes. Carry on, then.

Here, unless you're going to go swim, all you need to invest in is some relatively inexpensive winter cycling gear (mostly leg and arm warmers - you really don't need tights unless you plan on riding up in the mountains before the sun really gets up - a cheap thrift store fleece jacket works as a great layer over a cycling jersey, plus some toe warmers for your shoes) and running - just put on a sweatshirt, a knit hat, and some light gloves unless its really cold out, then you might need to add sweatpants for a jog.

I'd say it gets cool enough for both cycling and running tights, and long-fingered cycling gloves, but you could get by without them.

Swim = gym membership.

Wimp.

Edited because apparently the filter didn't like the original post.

Yeah, I lived in Iowa for 7 years (went to Coe College for four of them). Experienced the coldest weather ever in my life in that town. Chicago is a cake walk compared to Iowa. Not that it is any easier here, for winter training. Then again, I've got a place across the street from me that they flood in the winter and it acts as an ice skating rink. Will be using it to build up the quads.
