-Scott and Jen- Praying for your safety and that the fires stay away from your home.

run/swim combo last night.  swim/run combo planned for tonight. just cant get motivated to get back on the bike right now.  Any ideas on how to make T.I.T.S. more enjoyable for someone who really isn't having fun with that aspect of SBR right now?

I like to do time trials and group rides for motivation. Next time you are up would be happy to take long ride out to monument.

Hey everyone! Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers. We had to evacuate last night and make a run for it. We are safe at a friend's house. It appears the fire hasn't made it on base yet so our house is safe for now. We'll have to see what happens this afternoon with the winds. Yesterday the winds fired up and the fire went crazy chasing people out of their homes. So no workouts for us anytime soon but you'll be glad to know we had time to grab our bikes and other workout stuff before we evacuated. Keep the prayers coming for the fire fighters and for some desperately needed rain.

30 min easy run again. The last one before Sunday Marathon... I actually miss riding the bike for fun, but that will have to wait till next week. It's also raining here all the time now.

Swim/run yesterday. Bike this morning. Swim yesterday was less than 30 mins so I won't count it in the challenge.  Planning to ride again this evening, but won't count that either.

-Chris- I am a member of a bike club.  Problem is the timing of their group rides.  I'm either at work at the time or committed to activities with my kids. Undecided  Riding with the group last year really helped keep me on track.  I'm missing it this year.

Few things today - (1) The citizens of Sufferlandia invited me back for more pain and suffering last night.  On Jim's recommendation I joined heir "Fight Club".  Some of us might remember that Tyler Durden's 8th and final rule of Fight Club is "if this is your first time at Fight Club, you have to fight" (of course I just broke the 1st Rule of Fight Club...sorry).  So Fight I did and it was literally the best 1 hour cycling workout I have ever had.  The sufferfest video's do a great job grabbing you and making you bust your a$$.  Whenever you're grunting/moaning on the bike as you dig deep for an attack/sprint you know you're working.  I've pasted the Garmin file below where you can see the intervals but what makes it soo fun and difficult is that they throw in 15 to 30 second all out attacks or sprints (those are the upward spikes).  The hardest is when you are climbing in the big gear at 75 rpms and they throw and attack at you.  Beautiful pain! (the big downward s[pike in speed and HR is where both my calfs cramped up and I had to stretch and massage for a minute before I finished)

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/193590733

(2) A thought I would share a PSA on PSA tests for the 40 year old and greater men of our group.  I had my 2nd annual PSA blood test earlier this year.  It was slightly elevated compared to the one a year ago.  They are having me retest next week to see if it was an abnormal result.  Apparently cycling is thought to possible cause higher PSA results (as well as other "recreational" activities).  I'm lucky that my wife's cousin is a urologist so we texted a bit about it last night and his recommendation to ensure I get a good test result is no cycling from today until after the test on Monday.  Sucks I won't be able to ride this weekend but better than having people erroneosly want to give you a biopsy of a sensitive region.  So - please remember this in the 3 to 4 days leading up to your next PSA test (as well as no other "recreational" activities).

(3) I'm hoping everything works out for Scott and Jennie.  I'm sorry that you have to go through this.

I really like fight club, I have done a few others, but that is my favorite. I know that JoeP and Ernesto have also done some others, I'm not sure which. It got me through the winter in my suffer chamber, without having the stong desire to beat my heat against the cement wall in my basement.

I had a similiar issue on a PSA test. I have a close friend who is a urologist. He had me switch to a gender specific saddle. He said there is no empirical data to support it, only anecdotal evidence. But for me, it took care of the problem.

Slightly scary Mitch, hope all turns out for the best.  Will keep this in mind when I go in for my next physical.  Haven't had the test yet per my doctor's recommendation. No family history so he says wait til 45 or so especially since there are so many causes for elevated test results which are completely unrelated to disease.

I'm in the camp that says wait on the PSA too.  Problem is I started down the path of establishing a beaseline that I ultimately think it is a good idea to do.  My understnding is the key is to watch for spikes or increases in the PSA amount.  Not too worried as I had done a bit of cycling and other activities in the day prior and day of last test.  Assuming abstaining from all such activities will give me a nice low number like my first test in 2011.  Thanks for the well wishes though!

Great timing! I have family history of prostate cancer and had PSA test about 4 weeks ago. My PSA was well within range but the Dr. thought that it was slightly elevated for a person my age (43); so doing blood work again in a couple of weeks to be on the safe side. Will make sure not to bike a few days prior (or do any of those other "activities").

The downward spiral and hell hath no fury are the others I did. My favorite is fight club, and I agree the attacks on those last climbs were SOB's, I couldn't wait for the circus tricks by the time the last sprint was over.

Forgot to add my value from Sunday.  That is officially I think the weight I was when processed into the officer corps of the US Navy in 1993 - remember that # being on my initial ID card.  Its been a long time since I've been that weight.  Just checked my physical for commissioning in April 1992 - I weighed 153.  Therefore, that is my next goal.

The weight I went into the Coast Guard was 162 in 1983. I can get that. It was 145 after boot camp, I don't think that is doable, at least no willingly.Wink

Our freaky weather is continuing.  After a few days of not too bad, today we've had thunder and lightening and enough rain to cause flooding in a lot of the streets around here, including into some people's houses.  If also took Kevin 3.5 hours to get home from work due to the traffic repercussions.  If only I could send some of this rain to Jen and Scott...

So today was another fun-filled long turbo session.  One of the side effects of the Garmin 910XT on the turbo is that I stopped for a quick comfort break and it was close enough that it automatically downloaded to the ANT+ stick before I got back!

I had a very painful physio session this morning, but no more back pain.  Turns out my vertebrae were completely locked up, which is why the sports massage didn't really help.  Some extraordinarily painful prodding has resolved the problem.  Now I just have to keep on top of my core workouts.
