Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() First, Scott and I would like to thank you all for the thoughts and prayers. Although we both back and grabbed our gear as the primary essentials, training just has not been an option. As for an update for those of you not on Facebook: We are safe, and staying with some friends. Our home is also safe as of this time, however the flames from the main fire are burning about 2 miles from the house. If you access my garmin account and look for the run that I did on May 6... That will give you a better idea of where the flames are in relation to our home. On the satellite imagery of that run there are 3 small bodies of water. The fire is just south and to the west of that area. Our Facebook page has the fire perimeter as of this morning. I took pictures of that canyon on my last run....it is as if the fire is destroying our back yard... It is devastating. Fire crews have been working hard to protect the base and they have 10% contained which is a huge gain! We will remain optimistic. Where we are staying gives us a view over the Academy. I feel as if I continue to watch it, nothing will happen! Again thank you for you prayers!!!! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I think that's it for me this month. As its the off season here and the cold and dark has kept me from riding heaps i have focus on my swim. I feel like i am getting there slowly. I am on holidays for the next 5 weeks so it will be taking it easy swimming every day in the beach(i hope) but can't wait till after so i can get going again for my next 70.3 in January. I have a few work outs on my Ipad to start shaping my core and getting rid of the love handles as well.

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Weather here has keep me from training last couple of days (we got some nasty weather from TS Debbie). Woke up last couple of days to torrential rain and 20+ MPH winds. Today was actually a nice day, and was able to run (4 miles) and finally try my new shoes (Saucony Hurricane). Shoes felt lighter, cushiony, but less "structured" than my Kayanos. The run went very well, lower HR and faster than usual, but maybe the lower humidity had something to do with it. The surprising bit was that, being an 8 mm drop shoes (vs. 12 mm of regular shoes), I was expecting my calves, which are constantly tight, to suffer a bit. But my calves actually felt better after this run than normal. - Jim:S 10/B 14/R14 / Rest Days 4: Total=38; 33:00':05" Edited by Samyg 2012-06-28 8:46 PM |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So, on a whim, I think I will sign up for the 4th of July Sprint tri. I need to have something small remove ffrom my forearm in the next couple of weeks, and stiches=no training (i think). So just in case its disrupts my training for my first planned olympic distance in September, I am thinking of doing this one for fun. The course is the same as my second race (hopefully minus the thunder and lightning), so it will also let me measure my improvement vs. April, which will be fun. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() - Jen and Scott, very glad to hear you guys are ok and hope things get better soon over there! - Here in Taipei I'm getting no sleep between working all day, having drinks at night and getting up at 3am to watch the soccer games. However, it's been super productive, the Taiwanese in general are extremely nice people and I'm having a blast down here! - Yesterday no workout since I was exhausted, but today after watching Germany loose to Italy, a 30 min indoor bike + 42 min run through downtown Taipei - Jim:S 10/B 14/R14 / Rest Days 4: Total=38; 33:00':05" |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well, finally got to meet Chris in person, cool guy! We had some Mediterranean food and then headed for the pool. Did a group swim and a little track this morning. I might get my last run of the month tomorrow but it will be in Cancun where I will spend a few days on vacation, coming back on the 7th. Only run and swim while there. I don't see that many takers on the July challenge, maybe we should let it rest a bit. It is more intended to keep us accountable but almost everybody (except for our Australian friends) are in the middle of the racing season. Thoughts? - Jim:S 10/B 15/R14 / Rest Days 4: Total=39; 34:45':03"

Best of Luck on Sunday Mark!! Barry, thanks! (I will need it... feel like I've lost most of my conditioning through this taper thing, next time I will play it differently, but then again, not that important, the weather looks good and we'll have fun!). Oh, today my wife finished a 5.7k race (literally thousands of participants) along the same final part of the marathon course while we cheered her and she loved it! This was her first race ever, next time she has plans for 10k distance. What else would I want..? Nothing. My life is complete. Edited by markz 2012-06-30 5:45 AM |
