That’s great news about the leg!

Hurting everywhere today after the floorball yesterday. That’s what an hour of throwing yourself on the floor and getting up again (I’m a goalie) does to you. I am counting this as strenght training. So much more fun than the gym!

Here’s a pic of me in action (attached, can’t put it in the message from the ipad)

13.5 slow k’s on the menu this afternoon, should help with the muscle stifness. Have a great Sunday!

@Nathalie - cool pics and I think you can give yourself some high-twitch workout credit as well.  I'd be sore too!

@Gretchen - so glad the leg is behaving - let's keep it that way

Well this post didn't age well, though I've been way worse.  Eating Zicam like candy and taking Flonase to alleviate the symptoms and try to keep this thing from progressing to a sinus infection.  I took Thursday and Friday off and got in a sprint workout on the bike with some strength training yesterday.  Outdoor run in warm-ish weather on the books for this morning.

Hope everyone is a having a great weekend!

@Fit Nat. You can definitely count diving to the floor in your floor ball game as a high intensity strength workout. You're obviously on top of your mobility, I'm pretty sure if I dove around on a hard floor like that I'd be out of action for a week. Glad you got it going and had fun.

@Gretchen. How goes the purple hair? Of course, it might be lucky, normal hair = injured leg, cancelled marathon MRI scans... purple hair = leg feels great, back to killing it. Could be the start of a new tradition. In all seriousness it's good to see running went well and the confidence is coming back.

@Mike. No, I forbid you to get sick. You have to stay healthy and crush the offsprings dreams in your sprint tri. Hope the drugs did their job and it was a passing thing.

@ME, Well Saturday was when my deferred Ironman happened. So, my socials have been full of updates and photos. The feeling of missing out was great. Don't get me wrong, I made the right call to defer, but it still sucks not being there. On the plus side, apparently conditions for the swim and bike were very tough, over 50 people pulled from the water, so I'm not upset to have missed that. Next year we've put an order in for ideal weather. Only 52 training weeks to go.

Training for the week was a good one. I had my biggest ever week of running (first time over 50kms) and 9 hours of SBR total

Swim x1, 750m, 20min
Bike, x2, 2 hours
Run, x7, 53km, 6hr 40min
S&M, x4, 30 min

Hope everyone had a good, productive weekend.

I am with you, my man!  I need to crush some dreams!!  So today's run, that I absolutely forced because it was sunny and almost 60 freedoms out, was a slow slog and I feel sicker now.  Bleh!

As for your decision on pulling out, no regrets - 50 people pulled from the water does not sound like an enjoyable experience even if you're more comfortable in rough water (I would not be).  2025 it is!

Thanks, never looked at it like this way. I guess my mobility is pretty good for a 53 yo

wow, that's impressive! 9 hours is great

My week looked as follows

S = 0 still too cold but no long now until I suit up in neoprene from head to toe and swim 10 minutes
B = a number of stationary miles. 2 hours
R = 27k- 3:07 hours
S/M = 2 hours, as I am counting the 500 burpees playing floorball

so that's 7 hours, happy with that

Well all things considered (planned day off and two days off from being sick), a solid week:

1 swim, 2500 yards
3 x bike, about 3 hours
3 x run, almost 9 miles
1.25 hours strength and core work

"Head to toe" neoprene to swim sounds just horrible.

The real question is whether you get to count the 20' it takes to wriggle into head to toe neoprene as a workout in and of itself!

Decent morning for me. Quick 2400yds in the pool--mostly short stuff, with a lot of tough effort and tight intervals. Welcome to Monday morning! Then I jumped out and hit the weights for about an hour in what can only be described as a sweat box--it was so disgustingly hot in the gym today. The university has a terrible grasp on how to maintain climate control in the shoulder seasons. When it starts getting cool in the fall, they'll be blasting the AC when it is 45 outside. In the spring...heat stays on until April 1--no matter that it is currently 75 outside. We all suffer, and the gym is the worst, because they keep it warm in there to start with, which I never understood. It is a gym--keep it cooler, so people don't overheat.

I cam home and did a little work, before setting out on my 1:20 run. My plan was to listen to a lecture on Zoom while running, but it got hijacked by some gay porn, so instead of seeing tombs and dead people, I got to see... (I was a bit late in getting started on the run, so I was actually watching the beginning of the lecture instead of just listening while I was getting dressed). Anyway, they didn't pick up the lecture again after that, or, at least not in a way that I was alerted to. Ended up with a pretty good run in general, but my HR was higher than I would have expected for RPE. I might chalk that up to a terrible night's sleep, the super warm temps (mid 70s), and the 30mph wind I was running into.

These things only happen to you (or you’re the only one sharing, but I can honestly say I’ve never seen porn instead of a lecture on tombs and dead people.

Technically…this didn’t happen to me. I was a passive bystander. HOWEVER, I did once open a cascade of porn pop ups in the middle of a lecture for 90 intro to bio anth students in my first year teaching as a professor. I thought I was opening the video I had previewed earlier that day on gorilla behavior. It.was.not.about.gorillas. It was not about gorillas! I couldn’t close the windows fast enough and the sound was blaring and I just ended up unplugging the computer. Did I mention the screen was about 12’ tall?

Yeah…weird stuff happens to me all the time. I have no idea why. I try to mind my own business, but sometimes a pornado happens. :D

Nice solid weeks last week everyone. All ticking along nicely.

@Nat, I think wrestling the wetsuit on an off is more a mobility/flexibility workout than strength. Unless you 'incredible Hulk' the wetsuit off. Still counts though.

@Gretchen... You do get the most interesting training stories. In all the zwift rides/treadmill runs I've done, I've never found myself watching unexpected porn. Haha. At least you got a good run at the end of it though.

@Mike, 50 pulled from the water is no good, but the discussion is saying that the swim wasn't as bad as 2017, which was my first. Apparently 140 were pulled out that day. But this must mean next year Not so good that you're feeling sicker after forcing a run (which we have all done of course) How are you doing today?

I've been ticking along as per usual, 45 minute Z2 easy jog on the treadmill Monday evening. Harder run this morning, about 70 minutes with 2 x 18min tempo intervals, hard work, and a wet rainy morning. The end of summer has hit hard.

Back at it into a recovery week so keeping up the intensity with a little less volume, which essentially means about the same as illness-induced reduced week last week.  Started to get myself back together on Sunday afternoon and then with an off day yesterday I think I'm about 90% better though I had a dry-coughing fit in the middle of the night last night.  O-dark-thirty came early and I labored through a bike and R-pace interval workout on the treadmill.

Swim with Masters this morning. In total it was 2250yds, but the main set was 6x100 butt busters (bbs), each within 3" of the first, or you had to redo it. Ugh...it was a tough workout, but done (and I did't have to redo any 100s!). We have a new guy swimming with us and he is just putting everyone to shame. He wants to walk on to a college swim team, so today he was swimming 100s in 53". I have no idea if that is anything near good enough to get on a college swim team, but our fast guys swim the 100 in about 1:10 or so, and he is just blowing them out of the water. Neither one of them is happy about it either. Both of them are really nice guys, but they are super competitive, especially within their lane. It is kinda fun to watch.

Later today, 60' Z2 ride. I was hoping to do it outside, but the weather changed and it is back to the mid-30s (c. 1C) and WINDY. I think we're having sustained 35mph winds right now. Gotta get the ride in early, as today is my wife's birthday.

My student passed her defense and dissertation yesterday, both with distinction, which is something we don't give out in our department very often. I'm super proud of her...and also, very happy it is over, because this one was a lot of work!

Gretchen - My last two years of high school were done at Mercersburg Academy that has one of the best swim programs in the country. I’m slower than slow - sub 2:00 x 100 is usually attainable after 3 months in the pool. Swimming with Olympic level athletes show you just how in another league these people are. Don’t worry about them - worry about doing what you did today which was to kick .

Happy birthday to your wife, Gretchen! Enjoy your evening

I went to swim camp at Mercersburg when I was younger!!! So cool!!!

Wow that was a lot to catch up on!

So I'm back from my cruise in one piece! Had an absolutely amazing time. The guy I was traveling with and I got along perfectly...a little too perfectly. His life is complicated with being separated and will need to deal with selling the house, custody, divorce, etc. But we're both feeling like maybe there's something more here to be explored. I told him we can keep talking and going on trips together while he works through all this, but I don't want to be a distraction. He also lives in Charlotte, NC, which is a 7 hour drive... So we'll see what happens...

Anyway, while on the cruise, we walked a lot, but also had some drinks...I did go on a 30 minute dreadmill run on Wednesday morning, and he got motivated to go lift while I was there. Otherwise we mostly just focused on relaxation and fun. I got home Friday and was super lazy, but played 2 hours of pickleball on Sunday because it was BEAUTIFUL here, and have lifted the last 2 mornings (30 min upper body yesterday, 30 min lower body today). I'm gonna start running also but it was raining and I don't like rain

I also know I need to get back in the pool, so going to try to get back into the masters habit soon. Need to plan out the next few weeks. Glad to be back in a routine, but really missing vacation.

wife's birthday, not mine, but I'll pass along your thoughts.

I'm very proud of my student. And happy to send another one off into the world of employment (hopefully!).

RE: purple hair...it wasn't awful. The thing is, I have a lot of white hair, especially in the front, and the overtone really colors that nicely into a very vibrant color. I've done blue before. Back in 2020 when I had nothing else to do and no where to go, I did a full on blue mohawk. The white somehow gives it a very cool ombre effect, which is neat, but I'm not much into colored hair--just doesn't fit my personality and I'm very uninterested in keeping up the maintenance to make it look good for the long term (currently thinking about shaving my head just so I don't have to shampoo it as often after all my training sessions). Plus...people think I'm a Ravens fan, so I just can't have that.
