Hi all, I managed to post my swim video or some of it on my blog. I was horrified to see how I turn TOO far over to breathe..... and how slow I am........ it makes me sick to watch it ! ugh  If you watch it I hope it does not make your eyes bleed ! http://jdhalter.blogspot.com/

Anyway, dd and I are still sick,, I think I'll go back to the dd and see if this is pneumonia......i feel horrible and weak.
I have been reading the board, but I really do not have the energy to do much but sleep, so I'm just gonna  INSPIRE YOU ALL from here !

GO TEAM !!!

I'm sure that none of us would really like to see ourselves swim. I'm doing a swim clinic on March 29 where I'll be filmed and critiqued; I'm sure it will be a swell time!

Let me start by saying that you look 100x better than the woman that was in the lane next to me this morning. I think she was taking 3 strokes per meter; it was ugly. Anyhoo, your form looks decent, but you do seem to spend too much time on your side. Rolling is supposed to be good but you don't want to stay there. I don't know how to address this. As far as being slow, speed always seems to come after endurance, and both require time in the pool. You looked like you were comfortably cruising along but not really like you were racing. Have you simply tried to speed up your stroke?

Bottom line is that you did great! Congrats again!!

Hey Gang!

I had a couple of minutes so I thought I would sneak in a little "Howdy!" and tell you that I am thinking about all of you and wishing that I had the time to visit each of your logs. Round 1 of Parent conferences went well- 5 hours down...4 to go tomorrow. (Do you hear the excitement?) But....just 7.5 days of school until two weeks of Spring Break! YIPPPEEEEE!!! (Now that's excitement!)

Susie- way to go on the WW! and you stay strong! No way that you should be having to pay for two places. When you chat with the lawyer, be sure to get that taken care of.

Julie- sorry to hear that you are not feeling so hot- after a race or long workout, the immune system is always weaker and with the bugs floating around your house with dear Lexi having been sick, it may have gotten to you. Rest well, sweet dreams- no more tri-mares!

Nicole- HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Loved the licence plate by the way! Hope the ankle is feeling better. If you do get in for a massage you can also ask them to do some work with pushing some of the fluids away from the injury to speed your recovery. Do take care and celebrate your day! Hope the Garmin gets figured out too.

Cheri- thanks or the reminder on the bike! I hope that I can sneak a quick spin today before my massage and dinner. Sounds like Torture Dan is living up to his name- I bet he even likes being called Torture Dan!

Julie- our fearless leader, thanks for the continuous inspires and reminders to get out there and live active healthful lives- you are an inspiration! Now get out there and RUN!!!! (I figured that if you were already a happy cyclist, and you were getting pushed by Is and others to swim, I might as well push you out the door to do my fave of the 3- RUN baby RUN!)

Alyssa- hope Piepie is feeling better....poor thing. Loved the pics on your blog- especially little Henry getting the bejeezers scared out of him! awesome catch!

Happy Hump Day! Hope you get out there and enjoy the sunshine....we are (hopefully) coming out of a deep freeze- On Sat it dipped down to -25C and hasn't really come up since- should be -9C today- one can only hope....sad to be happy about -9C?!

Thanks for the inspires! Huge hugs out to you all! Go get 'im!

I don't think it's that you're turning over too far, I think it's that you're lifting your head to breathe. And when you lift your head, your feet sink, slowing you down. I have this problem, too!!! Try to focus on keeping your chin to your shoulder and not lifting your head.

BTW, when I saw myself get filmed at a triathlon clinic I was mortified. I thought I looked like a beached whale. I was this big fat blob that was barely moving. Our new YMCA teenage instructor is going to video us with her cell phone next week. Can't wait. (Yes, that's sarcasm.)

Offthegrid - 2009-03-11 6:06 AM Oh, and the good (and bad) news: I seriously need new pants for work. All except one pair are grossly too big for me. I'm swimming in the ones I'm wearing today, but I went to the gym in the a.m. and I didn't realize they were so big or I wouldn't have brought them. Going to have to check some consignment shops this weekend.

good job Susie! hope that tomorrows visit with the lawyer will make things easier on you. I cant see how he expects you to pay for all the stuff if you are not living there?? just doesnt seem right but I am by no means a lawyer and up on this sort of thing! good luck and keep us posted as to how your mtg goes tomorrow!

Sledge - 2009-03-10 4:55 PM I had an interesting track workout tonight.  It was the first time we've been out on the track since before Christmas.  We "warmed up" the first mile and a half by increasing the pace every lap. That would have been fine, but Dan is a much faster runner than I am, and by the third lap I look at my Garmin and we're doing 7:59! Anyway, after that we did three 300 meters and two 200 meters, all with full recovery between. And according to Dan, that was an easy workout because we only did it for half an hour! No wonder I call him Torture Dan.

I want to be fast like you!! does that mean I have to have a torture Dan in my life! I already have a torture Don on my bike routes! (Don is my dh)

I could sure use a Torture Don.  In my blog I was just whining about not doing enough biking.  I've tried to get my dh to ride, but he's just not interested.

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to figure out a way to push myself.

you need to go to your local bike shop and go on some of thier organized rides...almost all have some sort of rides they do throughout the week...go invite yourself and start meeting other cyclists and before long you will be leading rides! ride Cheri ride! I know you have the heart and soul...just time to get the confidence on your bike...which will come the more you ride...  I <3 my bike!

Hmm, swimming tonight I tweaked my stroke, and I think it was a big improvement. I did a 500 yard straight swim, but it felt like I could easily have done another 500.

I was focusing on really rotating my shoulders so that my chin nearly touches on each stroke, and then keeping that chin touching the shoulder when I go to breathe. But sometimes I was thinking about it SO much that I forgot to breathe.

I'm also going to start doing some short speed workouts in the pool, too. I've really never done that, so I think it's a good step.

Hi,

My ankle isn't bad, but it's hurt just enough that I know it. It was ok to swim today but I'm not sure if I should try biking to work with it tomorrow. I'm definitely skipping my next run.

The salon said they could reschedule my massage for the weekend but that next exactly the same thing is it? Doesn't get me a massage ON MY BIRTHDAY! I haven't tried calling elsewhere yet and I'm not sure I feel in the mood to deal with it anymore. Feh!

I got my ribs birthday dinner on Sunday, just me and Michele, but we'll probably do something else tonight with the kids and probably my mom. I haven't really decided what I want. Can't do anything until my son is home from lax practice and his guitar lesson.

I'm now 48 and I don't know why I persist in the idea that the day of my birth should be special. It seems that more often than not I end up disappointed. It's not like when we were kids and it could be all about us. These days there's too much other mundane life stuff going on.

My swim evaluation (birthday present) is on March 29.

Thanks for the well-wishes.

I think you are wrong about this not about us on our day stuff...next year you are going to hang with me on your day! deal? Michelle can come along...we will have a good ole time! and it will be allllll about you! have a great evening...sorry about your massage!

Good morning everyone!

Good luck on your race this weekend Julie!  Anyone else racing?

It's been a crazy week for me.  I have a lot going on at work this week, and it has really consumed me.  I missed my swim on Monday night and my bike last night.  And I have a meeting that I need to get to tonight (not work-related), but I also need to get a bike ride in.  My plan is to leave work early, ride my bike, and go to my meeting directly from there.  I'll sit in the corner so I don't stink up the place!

The good news is that I plan to be off tomorrow.  We do "earned days off", which by definition means that we have the flexibility to put in 9 hour days and take every other Friday off.  The way it works for me is that I have the flexibility to put in as many hours  as it takes to get the job done (usually >9!), and if I feel exasperated enough by the time my earned day off rolls around, I can take all or part of that day off.  I'm feeling stressed and I've definitely neglected training this week, so I'm taking the whole day off!  I hope to get lots of quality training in over a three day weekend, and get refreshed for another crazy week at work.

What's everyone else up to this weekend?

Swim improvement seems to be happening (maybe). I did a 100 in 2:29 this morning, whereas I usually do them in 2:40-2:45. I'm going to have to time a 100 all out soon to see where I stand. Yippee!

But I got cursed out this morning by my roommate.

For getting up 15 mins. earlier than she does.

So ... feeling kinda on edge here and stuck. I try to do everything I can to help her out to say "thank you," like cooking her dinner every night, doing the dishes and buying her groceries.

So not sure whether I will end up staying with her or if I will start looking for a room to rent elsewhere. Going to see what lawyer says in terms of how long the process will take and whether I can get future-X to take up some of the household bills.

Is this a thing where she always has to be first, or that you get in each others way if you get up earlier than usual, or does one of you being up mean the other really has to get up, too? The second and third might be ameliorated if you were in a two bedroom place. If the issue is number one, then you might be SOL and need to find someone else to live with.

I'm going to look into renting a room in a house from someone on a month to month basis. If it's not working out with my roommate, I don't want to sign a year lease. Plus, some of these include all utilities and washer/dryer, so would be even cheaper.

Going to try talking with her, though, to see what was up.

morning all. i am going to be heading out for a run here shortly. i WAS going to try to get 5 in today, but after feeling the way i felt when i ran three yesterday, i'll be lucky if i hit two today. i'm hoping i don't have pneumonia like pie pie. or bronchitis like my mom and her friend. i do feel super crappy, and yet, i know i'll feel WORSE if i don't attempt to run, so out in to the cold i go.

i'm pretty proud that i'm still all peached out for the month, i think i'm addicted to peaches. LOL
