Regular 124 | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread I was about to long on - extremely concerned. Like, no banter here - i think i am in serious trouble. In the past 12 months (inc NYC Marathon training) i have never run a 10mile run as badly as i did y/day. Over 1m/m slower than anything. "If you can not handle the heat - get out of the kitchen". I wanted no part of my run - complete negativity - curse IM - what the hell am i doing and why now - i have been running well all year". Seems that a few people have suggested the same thing. Anyone in NYC feeling the same with this heat (is it hot - what if its like this in Placid)? I`m normally positive - especially about training cause i actually really enjoy it. This is my first IM and the journey thus far it all been fantastic but first time y/day i became negative. Is this normal? I do not want to share negative vibes... I feel two weeks out we should all be hyper positive and excited. |

Is this normal? I do not want to share negative vibes... I feel two weeks out we should all be hyper positive and excited. Not in NYC but in DC with similar weather. I did my long run on Friday in the heat and humidity... This "taper" 12 miler after the super long runs in previous weeks felt worse than anything in training I've done to date. Your description sounds similar to what I experienced so I am assuming it's normal. I think our bodies are pretty beat up after the intense training and next week at this time we should be reaching the "hyper/excited" phase! Hang in there and know that having days like this is what will make the finish line feel like such a great accomplishment! |

Champion 11989 Philly 'burbs | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread This afternoon Lake Placid has a suffocation 37% humidity and tonight's low will be a scorching 57 degrees. Most of us in the NE are dealing with heat and humidity combined with the stress and strain of IM training. I'm holding on the the notion that by race week we'll all be feeling much better. |

I feel two weeks out we should all be hyper positive and excited. We will all be getting off the bike in the heat of the afternoon. Having said that, the heat of the afternoon in Placid is usually cooler than what you are experiencing. Mind you, we will have aid stations at EVERY Mile!! So every mile you'll be able to grab a cold sponge and douse water on yourself. Also, it's quite possible it will rain all day and heat will be a non-issue. Don't let one bad Run get you down. Chin up! |

Veteran 274 State College, PA | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread QOTD(or week for that matter): To wear my aero helmet or not? Asumming heat/humidity arn't a factor should I wear the helmet? Due to my recent training issues I've changed my goal bike time from 6-6.5 hours to 6.5 to 7 hours. I'm also not so sure anymore how much of the second loop I'll be able to stay in aero so not sure how beneficial the helmet will be. At least I had a great sprint race this morning. Other than almost drowning on the swim, very tired sore quads on the bike, hyper-extending my knee doing my flying dismount into T2 and a run that felt like a death march. Still had one of my best performances of the summer. Though my planned long ride this afternoon isn't happening because my knee is currently very very swollen(probably shouldn't have done the run but its not in me to quit). Maybe this will mean that I got all my bad race Karma out of the way now... |

Regular 113 NYC | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Yeah, Baby! You WILL do this! Had a mild freak out after my last long training run (2.5 hours, 17.4 miles). Showered and then went to my favorite dresser drawer to take out my magic pants and they weren't there!!!!!!!!!! I ransacked my house and finally found them. Put them on, kicked up my feet and relaxed. Do you think it is acceptable to wear the magic pants to the LP Brewery post race? |

If your magic pants are some form of compression you'll fit right in. I never saw so many people in one place wearing compression gear as I did in LP last year. And that's not even counting the race. |

It all depends on what you think you will be comfortable in. I race with a LG rocket air (I believe that is what it is called). I was unsure of weather I was going to race in it or my Ionis but after racing 2 windy HIM and one Olympic that reached 100 degrees I know I am very comfortable with my aero helmet so that is what I am wearing. If it saves 5 min. it will be worth it b/c after 6 hours on the bike every min. from there on is one I want to get off that sucker (hehe). I plan to race by HR and do not expect to be very fast on the course. I think I should be somewhere in the 6-6:20 range. My main goal is to enjoy the race and finish my first IM. |

Champion 11989 Philly 'burbs | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread FINALLY!!! Got up early to beat the heat and got in a very nice 45' run. Stayed in Z1 - Z2 almost the whole time and had good negative splits. The first mile was super slow, but I wasn't even really awake and it was almost all uphill.

It's states right on the Zoot website in bold letters: Zoot CompressRX Recovery Tights are not for Public Consumption. |

78 | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Aid Stations Every Mile on the Run...for real? Is this typical in IM races? My original plan was to walk every aid station assuming they were about 1.75-2.5 miles apart. I guess I get to walk every mile now Will be THRILLED if this is actually true...great for cooling, hydration, ''thank you volunteers'' chats, etc. |
