How a swimmer can complain about an event being too wet is beyond me. Wink Great job Arend! Definitely sounds like a race you'll remember for awhile.

Half marathon done!

I'll do a full race report but the short version is this.  The conditions were brutal, the temperature was hovering right around the freezing mark.  When we started, the roads were slushy and snow covered.  At about the 5k mark, it started to drizzle and by 10k it was outright raining and windy!  The course was two loops and the second time around, the slush was mostly gone but the roads were rivers and puddles and I had given up trying to dodge them.  Because it was dry for the first 5k, I had taken off my hat and gloves and stuffed them in my pocket.  By 15k I realized that my hands were freezing but my fingers were so stiff I wasn't sure I would be able to get my gloves out and put them back on so I just carried on.  Everything was so wet by then that I really didn't care.  That and I was slowly reeling in the guy in front of me...

Old HM PR was 1:48:20
New HM PR is 1:38:09

My Garmin measured it 0.2km short but at the end of the first loop it was spot on for the right distance so I'm calling it accurate.    I haven't seen the official results so I don't know exactly where I placed but I think it was 6th or 7th OA.

Needless to say, I am absolutely thrilled with the time!

Very nice! You blasted away your PR and placed well to boot. The conditions sound brutal. I hate when my hands start feeling like that.

So . . . you were slowly reeling in the guy in front, I presume you caught him?

Thanks guys.  This is what it looked like at the half way mark.

Oh, my. Today here it was nearly 70, and brilliantly sunny. I ran in shorts, short sleeved shirt, and no socks. Just saying . . . . Wink

Nope, I got to within about 50 feet of him during a short out and back section with 2.5k to go and when he saw me after the turn around, he took off and I finished 37 seconds after him.

Ha!  If it was numbers for just this race, it would take a while!  There were 69 people running today, split about half and half between the HM and the 10k.

Dang turn arounds.. you' d a caught him otherwise...unless a spectator started cheering for you in the finish chute and tipped him off that you were gaining on him. ! um...was it too cold for spectators ? lol

I had two greenbelt runs since wednesday. Still super windy here. my son wants to bike tomorow. i would much rather run instead. My rotater cuff is still thinking about acting up. M swimming is okay as long as i dont sprint for time.

Been a little down with a cold all week. More or less had a forced taper because if it and managed more than a 30 second PR in a 5K yesterday. I'll do a RR later, it was a pretty exciting race!

Awh man, I've been so MIA from this group (hanging head in shame...).

Smashing good HM Arend, well done

Wow Salty, a sick puppy and you still crank out a 5K PR

I'm sure my Kansas buddies had a great bike ride today in that 55 degree + weather today as I was traveling out here to central CA.  But I did have a very nice run of 8+ miles today in 66 degree weather.  It felt like 8:30 pace but when I got done turned out it was sub 8:00 pace.  I guess the pleasure of the run gave me a little sumpn extra!  I was wearing my Gary Gribbles K.C. running top and right after I passed a couple of yummy looking piglets one of them said "we've got to get our act together and move to K.C."  Ha Ha

CONGRATULATIONS AXENCHILLY!!!

I'm dying just looking at that. Because of your staggeringly good looks, of course. Or ... just the staggering. Wow. So impressed. That is a HUGE improvement and in utterly crappy conditions.
