Devon- Hoka's are awesome! check out runners warehouse, they had last years models on sale for $85. Plus jealous you were at the casino

Thxs for all the kind words on the run. Took Mondays run off because it was suppose to be an hr and well I didn't feel like it after the race on Sunday but was planning to swim. I was helping a friend with residing some rotten planks on his house had my swim stuff in the truck when work called. Had to go in and didn't finish till 2100. Needed to eat and get to bed so no swim. This morning I got up for a brick 45/15. Now off to training, brought my swim gear so if I get off early I can swim.

I have a question. I am looking at wheels. Was thinking of ENVE because I am a big guy and they don't have a weight limit. Have also heard good things about Boyd. Any other suggestions?

I have a friend (who rides with my club and has import/export contacts) set me up with a set of chinese 88 carbon clinchers, for $700.  That was last year though, so I don't know what prices are now.  He rides the same ones, and his wife rides a set of 58mm, and a few other guys in the club ride sets also.  I can put you in touch with him if you like.  I have had zero complaints with mine, and at the price, it's hard to beat.  They are complete (rim, skewer, pads, valve extenders) and need tires, tubes, and rim tape.  Rear wheel, with a heavy Gatorskin, 11-28 cassette, and skewer, comes it at 1625g, and the front comes it at 1270g, so the wheels themselves are sub-1,000g in clincher.

I raced IMWI at ~190lbs, and my friend is probably over 200 and lays out some serious power.  I don't expect durability problems, but you can check with him.

The only thing than would make this day better is if I were a Sox fan... 72 degrees for their season opener and they rocked the Nats! What do you think about that John? Jenn? Not too shabby!

Great job Dave keeping up with your goals!

Wish I was outside for the game... Had to follow along the first 6 innings on my ESPN app, and got the rest on the radio in the car, windows down! Hey how bout that Mookie Betts?

I did captain a Rally for the Jimmy Fund team at work which turned out way better than expected. Sure you all know what the Jimmy fund is (patient funding and research money for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute). It's real special to us in Boston, and closely tied with the Sox. Each year for Opening Day at Fenway, they do this Rally - for a min $5 donation to join the team, you get to wear your Sox gear to work on Opening Day. Ended up with 25 people on my team and absolutely shattered my fundraising goal - I set $100 figuring 20 people, we ended up well over $700 and then the company matched it, grand total ~$1500. All in all it was a fantastic day!

Improvement of 22 minutes overall from last year for my first OLY of the year. This includes stopping for who knows how long because of a terrible hamstring cramp! YEA! Let the racing begin...I do believe I have found new motivation.

I am a solid 220 most say the weight limit is 230, so it makes me nervous. Enve has no weight limit because they make their own fiber and do not drill holes they weave the fiber around to strengthen the wheel.

Also this is happening, I signed up today

My friend keeps trying to get me to sign up. I didn't know registration was today, it's probably sold out already then huh...

BTW we are talking about for 2017, because as far as I know 2016 is already sold out, right?

So, yesterday's ride seemed like a good idea.  Sure, temperature was dropping, and wind gusts to 40mph, but I was going out with a few guys from the club, so what's the worst that can happen? Ride into the wind for the first 20 miles, then blast back with the tailwind for some serious negative splits.

Hail.

Hail and Rain.

When the ride leader says "oh, if we do get any rain, it'll just be a flash of sprinkles," don't believe him.

Also, Rule #9.

Long story short, wound up sheltering under a random guy's house's overhand after getting completely drenched in a deluge at 40 degrees while waiting for a ride back for the last 15 miles.

And missed most of the tailwind.

And by the time our ride showed up, the skies had cleared.

Wow, badass for sure!

Ok my race report WARNING this will be a long one:

Went to bed last night around 9. Told my wife not to come to the race traffic was going to be a beast and besides its just a training run. It will be challenging but its just a marathon not my iron man (BTW there is no such thing as JUST A MARATHON). Race day also happens to be our 8th wedding anniversary so we are going out to dinner when I get home. A little back story is that my wife ran the Disney marathon back in Jan 2002. I had signed up but as fate would have it I was deployed with the national guard and couldn't run. I begged my CO and he let me drive down the day before the race, watch the race then drive back the same day (13 hrs one way) I surprised her and may bring it up from time to time or weekly whatever.

I got up at 0400 and parked at the down town police station which was only a few blocks from the start plus I have a locker room and a real toilet with no line. I met up with one guy from my team and a female officer who works in Spec Ops with us but a different unit. He was looking to run a sub 4 hr not sure what she wanted to run. I told them I wanted to keep it under 5 hrs with me being sick and not having prepared as well as I should have (my longest run was 13) My plan is to run 3hrs then walk run the rest. We talked to some of the command staff for the district and hung out until almost race time then walked over. Our team was working the event and told me one last time not to run (they had been telling me not to do it because of the illness all week). I felt pretty good actually had my inhaler in my pocket and took a gel with me because I had heard there were not many gel stops.

I was in corral 19 so once the first corral started I still had a long wait. First 10 miles were pretty normal, I was having a hard time breathing and the hills in Raleigh are never ending, you are running up one or down one at all times but over all I felt good. I took my gel at :45 in and was taking in water since I had not trained with Gatorade endurance. At mile 8 I had not seen a station with gel and there wasn't any at the aid station, or the next, or the next. By this time i am not happy I am passed where I feel I need calories. I asked a worker and they told me they where not sure where the gels would be, but they thought I had missed the first set. ARGHHH I'm really not happy. I start taking the Gatorade, luckily my stomach accepts it. I finally see gels at an aid station (I think 14 or 15 miles) I jam 5 of them in my pockets and took one. I have passed the 4:45 and 4:30 pacers and asked what corral they started in since it was not mine. found out they were in 14 so I had made up some time. As I am approaching the 3 hr mark I realize that I am only going to get 18 not the 20 I was hoping for. I had not been paying attention to the spectators much every now and then I would hear "go Scott" but it was because names were on the race bib. But at the 2:40 mark I heard it and looked up to see my wife and daughter cheering me on. I was happy to see them and was still feeling pretty good. Pushed though and started my walk run about the time I was entering the lake where I train (we only ran the flat front not the large hills on the back side). Then on a green way for a while. Even with the walk run I hit the wall and hit it hard somewhere around 20. I couldn't breath, my legs wanted to quit and my mind was past ready, my I pod had given me the low battery so I knew that was almost done also. I looked up and saw them both again. They had driven down the road and set up as the green way crossed a road. It almost brought me to tears (which is odd because my wife thinks I'm a robot). That was it I knew I could do this only 6 more (terrible hilly awful) miles left.

The last 6 miles were hard but I stuck to my plan and did the run/walk. I made it around 4:40ish. Official time is not in, and I forgot to stop my Garmin until I had water, medal and Gatorade at 4:45. I learned a valuable lesson I will never run with bronchitis again, and there is no such thing as just a marathon.

Thanks to everyone for the encouragement and keeping me in the race even when I questioned myself. I am glad I did it, now off to take my wife and daughter out for our 8 year anniversary. The picture is mile 18.

Awesome job! Way to push through and finish! What an achievement.

I could have went harder but that is how I guess you are supposed to feel. This distance is so much more fun than when I do sprints and olympics. Official time was 6:51:44. My goal was 7 hours and I came in under that so that's a bonus. I have a sprint May 9th with my son and plan on doing nothing but swim until it comes. My IM training will start after that race. I have a few oly and sprint races peppered throughout the year that lead up to IMFL.

Gonna be a great tri season this year!

Amazing job! Congratulations! Sounds like it was a great race, and definitely a great start to the season!

Hey everyone!

Sorry for the multiple posts, but I was playing a lot of catch up. It's so great hearing about everyone and their races and workouts!

DQ - Nice job with your goals. The best way to stick with them is to let other people know. How's it going today?

John - You crushed your fundraising goal! That's very neat that your work matched it. Nice job!

I can't wait to see pictures of you all with your shirts when you get them. Is there another order happening, or are we just able to order them whenever we want now? Dave O, I know you posted about it a little bit ago but can't remember the specifics.

Things have been rather crazy for me here. Work has been busy (I actually just finished putting together a progress report for a grant that includes someone from Dana Farber...small world, John!), and all my social sports are finally getting into full swing (I can't remember if I told you guys this, but I'm playing Football, two volleyball leagues and kickball right now...). It's wearing me out and I've been really run down, but should adjust to this lifestyle again soon. That being said, I'm also missing my MOJO a bit when it comes to getting my tri workouts in. I have tomorrow night off and hope to kind of re-evaluate where I am and where I need to be (and how to get there).

Will keep runners warehouse in mind if I decide to pick up another pair or two. And don't feel too bad about the casino, it really loses its appeal when you work in one every day. :/

I really hate the weather the last few days, is absolutely disgusting outside...been stuck on the trainer. Thinking about maybe hitting one of my longer routes for a run later, I'm itching to get outside.

Hope everyone else is having a great day!

I would like to order 2 shirts, one for my wife and one for me. As far as I can tell the store is closed. Not sure how to re-order.
This was the link: http://shop.jakroo.com/storefront/BDAS
It isn't active any longer. I missed out as i was traveling most of march and it slipped my mind.

The pricing drops at 2-5 to $75 per shirt then again at 6-24 to $69

I just don't know how to re-open the store. Any help?

When is your HIM? Do you have a bottle of wine picked out as a reward?

Absolutely! HIM is May 31, that evening AC/DC in concert in Madrid with my 15 year old son, so as soon as I get home, a great bottle of Vega Sicilia (one of the best wines of this country) will be waiiting for me with some serrano ham.....uummmhhh!!

Great job, John - I am glad you reached your fundraising. I find fundraising an extra motivation for my training: my chosen charity is Make-a-Wish, and it really helps me get out of the door on lazy days and push it harder on my runs. This year, my project I need to fund is for your teenager whose dream is to sing in Broadway, and we are getting there...

I've said it before and I'm saying it again now. I simply cannot recommend FLO wheels enough. They're fairly reasonably priced and they're some of the fastest wheels out there. Most wheelsets, particularly the chinese sets, are based on patent-free designs that are a number of years out of date in terms of technology. They often have a sharp V-shape or early toroidal shape to them. They look fast but they are actually aerodynamically inferior to wheels designed in-house by companies with the accountability to provide good products. FLO is run by two Canadians (out of Michigan I believe). They designed their own wheel shape based on tireless testing and computations. They also publish all of their aero data and specs, which is excessive to the layman purchaser, but if your wife happens to be an aerospace engineer (as mine is), she can use her big brain to verify the data.

If you're going for a set of good aero TT wheels, the FLO 60/90 combo is where its at. And coming in at just over a grand for a pair, you can't go wrong.
