Offthegrid - 2009-03-12 9:18 AM I forgot what I wanted to ask! I bought beats and turnips to try roasting this weekend. They already have the tops and bottoms cut off. Do I have to peel them?

i LOVE beets, cooked then dip them in a little bit of mayonaise. (yeah, well, i was born in minnesota, what can i say?) YUM. i THINK you peel them, i've never made turnips, but i'm pretty sure you peel them too. ENJOY THEM!!!! they're delicious!

Good morning everyone!

Good luck on your race this weekend Julie!  Anyone else racing?

It's been a crazy week for me.  I have a lot going on at work this week, and it has really consumed me.  I missed my swim on Monday night and my bike last night.  And I have a meeting that I need to get to tonight (not work-related), but I also need to get a bike ride in.  My plan is to leave work early, ride my bike, and go to my meeting directly from there.  I'll sit in the corner so I don't stink up the place!

The good news is that I plan to be off tomorrow.  We do "earned days off", which by definition means that we have the flexibility to put in 9 hour days and take every other Friday off.  The way it works for me is that I have the flexibility to put in as many hours  as it takes to get the job done (usually >9!), and if I feel exasperated enough by the time my earned day off rolls around, I can take all or part of that day off.  I'm feeling stressed and I've definitely neglected training this week, so I'm taking the whole day off!  I hope to get lots of quality training in over a three day weekend, and get refreshed for another crazy week at work.

What's everyone else up to this weekend?

RIDE CHERI RIDE! have a fun day off! get on that bike and do some 25 milers! every time you do this...you will become more familiar with the feel of your bike and it will be more comfortable shifting....have fun weekend!

MDHillSlug - 2009-03-11 3:57 PM I did manage to get a massage today but I had to go to the salon I had stopped using. On a scale of 1-10 it was about a 6.

yay! hope your day was a good one...and ALL ABOUT YOU!

Offthegrid - 2009-03-12 5:20 AM Swim improvement seems to be happening (maybe). I did a 100 in 2:29 this morning, whereas I usually do them in 2:40-2:45. I'm going to have to time a 100 all out soon to see where I stand. Yippee! But I got cursed out this morning by my roommate. For getting up 15 mins. earlier than she does. So ... feeling kinda on edge here and stuck. I try to do everything I can to help her out to say "thank you," like cooking her dinner every night, doing the dishes and buying her groceries. So not sure whether I will end up staying with her or if I will start looking for a room to rent elsewhere. Going to see what lawyer says in terms of how long the process will take and whether I can get future-X to take up some of the household bills.

wow that is HARSH! sounds like someone didnt take thier happy pills! ;/ I am sure it can be stressful to be so cramped...but that is uncalled for! sux to have to tiptoe around someplace you want to call home....do you have a craigslist in your area? maybe you can find a room in someones home...know that can be weird...but my brother used to bring roomies in and he always had great luck at who he had....some are good buddies of his still...gotta run...time to throw our stuff in the jeep and bikes on the back hit the road...will be thinking of you! take care and make sure to make a list before you go to the lawyer so you are prepared..GOOOOO SUSIE GOOOOOO!

Offthegrid - 2009-03-12 9:49 AM I'm going to look into renting a room in a house from someone on a month to month basis. If it's not working out with my roommate, I don't want to sign a year lease. Plus, some of these include all utilities and washer/dryer, so would be even cheaper. Going to try talking with her, though, to see what was up.

guess I should have read on before my last post! good luck with your chat...and look elsewhere if there is any doubts of her sincerity!

Uh oh, Julie would be mad at us for being so far down on the page.  Is everyone hiding today?

I'm heading to the pool here shortly (I'm off from work!).  What does everyone have going today?

I didn't work out this morning because roomie got home pretty late from karate, and I didn't want to wake her up. 'Sides, I can go at lunch and after work. I plan to lift weights at lunch and then jog a tiny bit after work.

Tomorrow or Sunday I am going for a bike ride, baby! I can't wait. I'll also probably swim tomorrow morning. Then Sunday maybe I'll take a long walk without jogging.

I find myself strangely listening to this Miley Cirus song a lot. I love the message, although I'm not so fond of her voice. (I actually thought it was a teenage boy singing until I found out it was Miley ...)

I can almost see it
That dream I’m dreaming but
There’s a voice inside my head sayin,
You’ll never reach it,
Every step I’m taking,
Every move I make feels
Lost with no direction
My faith is shaking but I
I gotta keep trying
Gotta keep my head held high

There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose
Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb

A good message. I don't think I've heard that song. My daughter is 12 so I've heard more than my share of Miley Cyrus (now, she's mostly into the Jonas Brothers)

My ankle is feeling pretty good, but I'm still going to baby it for a few more days. So, I did an extra swim today. It was a good swim, but I'm dealing with a bit of a stiff neck; this made it a bit hard to turn my head for breathing. As a result I swallowed a lot more water today than usual. Yum ;)

susie susie susie!!! where are you FINDING these people?!? your soon to be X sounds like superjerk, and now roomie is being a baby about you getting UP FIRST?!? ok listen sis--it's time to make a clean get-away. you need your own place to be your own woman, you need to be where NO one gets to tell susie what to do except susie. there are lots of places you can find to live on your own, maybe not a huge fancy 2 bedroom, but hey, even a teeny studio apartment, if you're on your own, it's WORTH it!!

just my 2 cents.

I just had a great day off from work.   I slept in until 7:30, didn't leave for the pool until 9:00, swam, drove straight to my favorite biking spot, then biked for 46 miles!  Now that's my kind of day off.

I'm a little tired right now but we're meeting friends for dinner.  I hope you all have a fabulous weekend.

[And Susie, I agree that you need to think about getting your own place...]

Sounds like a great day! I don't think I'm gonna get out for a ride this weekend. I don't want to over do the ankle. I think it's fine but I want to be overly cautious.

Just checking in.  Went out for a run late this morning after the rain stopped.  The course has two long slow hills and the wind was totally nuts.  I was literally leaning into it on an uphill and pumping my arms to keep making progress.   This is my longest run this year and it was great to be able to do this course again.  I have run it before, but it has been at least 5 years and perhaps longer.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.   I'm hoping to get out tomorrow for a bike ride.  The weather dudes say there will be more gentle breezes to help keep me cool.

Happy Saturday everyone!  I'm up and ready to go out for my run, but the weather radar shows a band of showers almost upon me.  I think I'll wait a little while and see what happens.  I'm not as adventurous as Allyssa -- I prefer it dry.  Although in Florida, "dry" is a relative term.  With our humidity, quite often I can swim and run at the same time!

I hope you all have a wonderful day!
