I've had the flu since Saturday and am just starting to come around. I'd say I'm still only at 60% but its better than feeling like I am dying! It's been a tough week

It could not have come at a worse time. My only planned race of the season is 2 weeks away. I have barely been out on the new bike and have a nasty respiratory infection so it's going to be several more days before I can even think about exercising. I'm thinking of just waiting until next year (it is a 70 mile bike race) for that one and am coming up with some plans for next year. I didn't really race at all in 2012 which is fine considering that a year ago I could barely walk. This year was all about recovering from knee surgery.

Now, I just need to keep off Strava because it makes me sad to have lost 3 QOM this week and there's nothing I can do about it

Shyte. I feel like I can't catch a break. Maybe Ironman will just be a case of whenever I have enough accumulated base built up and get lucky with good conditions and everything coming together on the day.

After all you've had to deal with, I feel like my medical situation this year was kids' stuff.  But try to hang in there... focus on what you CAN do and let the rest go.

I really think with a course suited to you that's not freezing cold, you'll do quite well.

Aw, schpanks Spiglet and all you other kind wonderful folks.

It's been a long 2.5 years. At least this time it isn't some horrible tropical illness where first you feel like you're dying (and you might be) and then you want to die.

I do know how to do sick and do it well--to stay reasonably happy and vaguely productive.

The truth is I've also never been in the triathlon game for results, but for the journey, the knowledge, the fun/adventure, and most of all ... the piglets. Taking three weeks off changes none of that.

Where I come from that's called proper perspective. . I've read about it, heard about it, and one time I almost caught it. But, much like the elusive Bigfoot, it often evades me.

^^^ piglet

Oh noes! I feel for you. Are you okay with doing the race but maybe not "racing"?

Most of all I just hope you feel better and clear up soon.

Getting colder in a hurry in CT.  Rode at 6AM and it was dark for the first 30 minutes and I'm breaking out the cold weather gear.  I'll probably be riding indoors during the week and sneaking outside on Sundays.

How is it everywhere else?   You guys setting up the pain cave?  I typically don't mind the trainer because you can lock in your zones easier, bit I just really enjoy riding outside and the feeling like I'm going somewhere.

It's interesting, but I've seen some various interviews with Potts, Rinny and others who do a lot of indoor workouts.  I know Potts ride over 90% on the trainer (happen to watch a good interview the other day just surfing youtube while my daughter hogged the TV) and Rinny was saying she does at least 1 workout per week on the treadmill because it helps her with her run form.  Thought that was interesting...alright...end of rambling.  Have a good one everyone.

I'm like Tom, the majority of my rides are on the trainer.  I reckon 90% of my frequency (but not time) is on the trainer year round.  I would much rather be outdoors riding, but the life schedule doesn't allow for it.  It also means the rides tend to be a bit shorter than if I were outdoors.

x3.  All my weekday rides are on the trainer and I try to get outside every weekend.

I realized the other day that I did NOT have 1 flat tire this entire year...that gives you an idea of how much I am on the trainer...some sort of record considering i am around 3100 miles this year on the bike.  I am probably doomed next year!

I had a flat tire on the trainer. Surprised

All of my flats have been on the trainer...been lucky on the road so far!

Ha ha..no! j/k, I do think I have it in me to just race for fun but it's a super hilly route and would be tough no mater what, and I could just save the money for something else (I have learned not to pre register for these things!)

Sorry for your health issues Yanti, but glad you are in the hands of a competent dentist. Take care!

Hope all of you who are sick get better soon!

Running is slowly coming back for me.  Today should be the 6th day in a row I'll have run...mostly just 3 milers in Z1.  Joints are starting to feel normal again, but I'm still going to play it on the safe side for a couple more weeks before upping the intensity.

Trainer road is a life saver.  Makes riding the trainer so much less miserable.  I'm also pretty impressed with their library of workouts.

French lessons will soon be required in this thread because with the uber bikers are coming to Tremblant 70.3 next year they need to learn a bit

Here is one they will be repeating over and over "A ta gauche",

Glad you like TR. I'm a huge fan. Like their Facebook page. I think they post upcoming updates periodically.

What are your favorite TR workouts?  Have you tried any of the workouts with linked sufferfest videos?

I'm planning on doing 2x20 next week, not really looking forward to it.

Yep. "Don't give up". Now that I think of it, probably the thing you hear the most on the course.
