Master 1841 Sendai, Japan | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success - CLOSED Thursday was another rest day because my foot was still swollen. Some meds and a visit to my massage guy helped and I was able to get out for a 40 minute run today (Fri). To make things interesting, it just poured rain for the whole run. Master 3022 | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success - CLOSED Originally posted by trigabe Hola amigos, finally back after being swamped at work/meetings and having a hard time getting motivated to train, especially for another Ironman tri in November (Arizona). I have been tired and skipping workouts, but just decided its time to HTFU and try to be in decent shape for IMAZ. Mitch, sorry to hear about your paddles, and although they can be easily replaced, I know it leaves you with a bad feeling. Updating totals including a 7 mile run + 2000m interval swim at lunch Gabe: Do I remember correctly that you used EN in the past? Did you buy their plans or were you a team member. Looking for any feedback you might have. Thanks, Mitch |

Master 3022 | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success - CLOSED Nice hard 36' on the trainer last night (30' at NP of 96% FTP) and 30' in the pool today. Back to counting all calories in and out. Later this year I'll be celebrating my 20 year anniversary in a beach setting - have to look good for any pictures! Goal is to loose 10 to 15 pounds between now and then. I would be very lean at that point. Hoping lower weight and stretching/strengthening rehab on the foot will help me avoid Plantar Fascitis going forward. Oh yeah - and I should be a lot faster too! Expert 2811 | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success - CLOSED Rode most of my HIM bike course today 2:24:16. I got a good reminder about why I love to do this. I have been having a work issue that I was having trouble solving. It was affecting my sleep, and was a complete distraction. About a third of my way into the ride, I was able to relax and came up with the solution. I don't think I could quantify the advantage of exercise making the mind relax and clear the clutter. Master 1841 Sendai, Japan | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success - CLOSED adding 4 hours on the trainer (4 X 60' @ high zone 2 with 5' rest breaks, i.e., I got off the bike, changed my tunes, filled my bottles, grabbed more nutrition and basically gave my buns a break). Ideally, I would have liked to do 6 hours, but felt fully cooked after 4. I was in on the trainer because it was raining again when I wanted to start. My goal was to dial in my pacing (power and hr) for my iron distance event and doing it on the trainer was a good idea because it allowed me to hold the pacing - something I cannot do when I am outside because there are traffic signals and stop signs and cars, etc. Dan 17 43:08 Mitch 17 17:38 Jim 17 19:00:58 Dave L 13 9:01 Dennis 21 44:28 Gabe 14 19:34:51 Dave C 7 6:29 |

Looking for any feedback you might have. Thanks, Mitch Mitch, not sure if Gabe used EN or not, but I am pretty sure that I mentioned it. I bought their intermediate level Long Season Plan 2 years back. It included their outseason (14 weeks) + the 20 week Full IM plan. The current discounted price on their site is very close to what I paid for it. If I had it all to do over again, I would probably opt for becoming a member for 6-7 months covering the period I was executing. Membership will run you a little more, but it will give you access to all of their plans and all of their resources. Their plans are intense, but I like their approach. I ended up tearing a muscle towards the end of the outseason plan and not being able to run for almost 2 months so I did not execute the IM plan as written (I backed off on bike intensity to reduce risk of aggravating the torn muscle further). This year my bike tour got in the way so I also did not execute. I am going to do my best to stick to the plan for next season. Let me know what you decided to so and feel free to PM me if you have any other questions. Note that they do have a 7 day free trial membership and it is worth doing to get an idea of what is available. |

Expert 1109 Guatemala | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success - CLOSED Dan, you are putting in some monster workouts and kuddos to you for being able to ride 4hrs on the drainer! What race are you training for and when is it? Mitch, I did not use EN, but Dan gave you his insights already. I have used a coach for a while with good results, but it depends on what you are looking for. In my case, I have been skipping a lot of workouts due to travel/work and the good thing about a coach is that it can help you with the adjustment of your plans. Also the coach that I'm using is a personal friend from Guatemala who is now part of the Brett Sutton training team, so he has good experience and insights, but is also very reasonable in terms of cost. Otherwise I would probably just stick to a plan from one the online sites. Jim, glad to hear you were able to ride the course and even better, to relax and solve your problem, I love when that happens. Adding a 48 mile bike ride with good climbing today. Tomorrow I run the Guatemala City 1/2 Marathon with should be a lot of fun Dan 17 43:08 |

Master 1841 Sendai, Japan | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success - CLOSED Congrats on the HIM Gabe! I am doing an ironman distance event on Sado Island on Sept 6. It is called the Astroman. The bike is actually 190km because that is the distance around the island. I did the same race last year as my first ironman distance. Adding a swim (1:40) and run (1:50) from Sun. Expert 1255 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success - CLOSED I have really missed all of you. So sorry, but I have a fabulous excuse. Towards the end of July, I began complaining to my coach that I was exhausted, I mean crashing fatigue like I've never experienced. On my 12 mile run, when I was at mile 9, I literally wanted to go over on the sidewalk and lay down and take a nap. I had no energy on the bike. This went on for a few weeks as my coach and I were trying to figure out if it was an overtraining issue. I sleep a lot! I just started to feel a little better this week. At the beginning of this week, I tested positive for mono! 62 years old and mono. But, they had checked out my heart and my liver and they are in great shape. After conferring with medical professionals, I have decided to get on the plane to Europe this afternoon. Race day is next Sunday. If I continue to feel better, I am definitely going to do the race. I have changed my goal to just finishing and enjoying the experience. Please send all your good vibes and prayers for the strength to keep going. The run takes the most out of me. Mitch, I will catch up on my totals for June, July and August and send them to you because I know you keep track. |
