Taking a class is cool if you can do it. PBS on the weekends is another good way to figure things out.

Cooking Light is a decent mag with more basic ingredients.

I agree. I love to cook with new things. The problem is I try to do new stuff with no training and it usually turns out bad the first couple of times.

I hope it's that easy...it's frustrating sometimes b/c I read a recipe and don't even know what some of the ingredients are or what certain terms mean...SPEAK ENGLISH (or American or whatever)! =) But...just gotta learn that stuff then I'll become a cookin ninja! =) snerk.

A cookbook like this one or this one will have recipes for practically everything AND whole sections where they talk about the various ingredients in things, their purposes, and the various techniques one ought to know. Seriously, everyone should own at least one of that type of cookbook.

i've also heard good things about the Joy of Cooking, but i can't attest to that book's value.

Have fun! Cooking is supposed to be fun.

I bet you will love cooking lvthgme.  Once you learn and understand the basics, which is really just understanding what different ingredients do and taste like, you may find it to be quite enjoyable.  I love it.  I get really excited to find a new interesting recipe and go to the store and get all the cool ingredients and get cookin!  It can be very theraputic. Good luck!

To add to yesterday's conversation (since I missed it)....

I HIGHLY recommend "The Joy of Cooking".  It's big.  And it has recipes in it from simple salads to the most complex desserts you can think of.  The best part of it, though, is that it explains all the different cooking methods, and talks about different ingredients, and kitchen tools, and lots of other topics.

As background, my mother had me baking at around age 6 or 7, I was cooking dinner for my family at around 15, and I (very) briefly worked as a cook.  I have always preferred baking to cooking, though, which is odd, because I don't really eat sweets or desserts at all.

Another day, another dollar, I suppose.

Found a prospective house last night.....Price is high, though.  We'll see what we decide, I suppose.

What features about this house appealed to you?

To clarify, I like clean dishes and clean clothes, so I do dishes and laundry. I couldn't care less about clean floors, so I tend not to vacuum or mop. I think too much radiation would cause a pretty global case of system care failure.

You LIKE dishes and laundry? I can't stand cleaning or dishes or laundry.

Hence my stinky clothes and 8-foot pile of dirty dishes.

I'd rather cook than bake. It appeals to my ADHD more...all that measuring is too exacting and time consuming.

Morning TAN! Special welcome back to Josh - nice to see you again! =)

So high school graduations. I'm NOT a fan. Went to one last night, went to the v-ball school's last Sunday, and going to little bro's this Sunday. GAAAA! It got me to thinking about cultural differences and things like that and like...why do we do graduations the way we do? Anyway, that borders on being about "something" but...it's what I was thinkin. =)

Also, my college roommate LOVED to bake so she did. And I ate it ... all. =) I should NOT live with someone who likes to bake that much ever again.

Too. Early. To. Think.
You think more before 9:30 a.m. than the most COJers do all day.

Amount of sq footage, the open layout, the deck, good sized yard, and a driveway.

Downsides are price and location: it borders a busier road.

It was a flip that never sold.  Guy's had it for about 15 months now, had it on the market for about 12.  Inside is completely redone.  Even finished the attic (but not the basement, which is fine, I can do that).  Just gotta get the price down by about $50k or so......

We haven't even submitted an offer yet.....

Considering the guy has only dropped the price by $5k in a year, he may not be very open to negotiations.
