Master 1843 Roswell, GA | Subject: RE: P.O.G. Team Thread - Nov USMC Challenge We got the wind and cold down south too. It was 30 degress this morning when I got up and that's COLD for Atlanta in November. It's supposed to last all week too. And we got some serious wind going too. I got my PG point with a 7.5 mile run this morning and a dog walk this afternoon.

My kids are 7,5 and 4. I still don't have a babysitter for them. That being said, just recently I have become more comfortable leaving them with some friends. It's hard, especially with a baby! Stick with it, you will work something out and you will be so glad you did! Another place I have met some good people is church. I don't know if that is your thing or not but the base chapel's are usually a good resource too. When my eldest daughter first started babysitting a smart mom had her come over to be a "mother's helper" for a few hours. She paid her to play with the kids while the mom did chores and paperwork around the house. It gave the kids a chance to get used to my daughter while their mom was still available, and mom had a chance to check out my daughter's babysitting (nose wiping, fight stopping, book reading and block building) skills. I thought this was very smart and it actually was nice for my daughter because the mom was there as a resource if a question came up about how to handle a situation with the kids. That's a great idea. I might have to look into that! Thanks! I agree...that is an awesome idea!! And thanks Erica for the advice and assuring me (this is how I'm taking what you said...) that it's ok to be paranoid with my baby girl!! |

Got my run in this afternoon. It was a good 4 miles and I was super warm. Today is the first cold day here (40s so not freezing but still cold for me!) and I tried my new Nike tights and Nike cold weather shirt. I have to say, I was toasty warm. Almost too warm. I'm feeling encouraged about colder weather and not having to use the treadmill! Off to shower and pick up kids from school! |

Elite 4372 Connecticut | Subject: RE: P.O.G. Team Thread - Nov USMC Challenge ACK! Cole has pink eye!! Gross! He has a doc appt at 7:50 this morning. The real crappy part is that he has to stay home from school. That disrupts my workout plan! I was going to swim this am and a quick run this pm but now not so sure. Bryan is working late to boot! I hate it when life happens! I'll figure something out, even if it is waiting for B to get home and heading out late. |

My kid has been coughing up a lung for a couple of days so I took him to the doc today too. He has a sinus infection and is now in school. I got a pre doc POG point with an early morning swim. Plan was to run at lunch but since I was late I will do my tempo run after work. |

Member 39 San Antonio, TX | Subject: RE: P.O.G. Team Thread - Nov USMC Challenge Glad to see we're winning! I never did find out how my team from last month did. Well I have been strength training here at home, sans the weights, but I really really need the weights. it was fine for the first month or so after I had the baby and could barely do a lunge or a squat. But today I went to Gold's Gym (free 7 day trial) and worked out with weights and I need them! My workout was so cool. BUT, I am quite tight on $$$, and they want $45 a month. The other gyms that I know of (franchise owned gyms) are all expensive too. Does anyone know of a chain that is cheap? Or, if you live in San Antonio, do you know of a gym here that is not too expensive? I live on the north-central/north-east side of town. What if I bought a bowflex? Do those systems work? Help an amateur out here please! |

I never did find out how my team from last month did. I'm not a bowflex fan. You could buy free weights to use at home- 5, 7, & 15 work well since you can lift 2 at a time to vary the weight. Often you can pick them up at yard sales for really cheap. You could hire a trainer for 1 or 2 sessions at home to get you started. If there is a local Y nearby I would check there too. All the Ys offer financial assistance so that a person can join, you just have to do a little paperwork. Good luck.Well I have been strength training here at home, sans the weights, but I really really need the weights. it was fine for the first month or so after I had the baby and could barely do a lunge or a squat. Master 1632 Almost Canada, WA | Subject: RE: P.O.G. Team Thread - Nov USMC Challenge Crews...good to hear your finally feeling better!! Erica...sorry about the pink eye. Can your kiddo catch a break, please?! Cori...I know what you mean about needing the weight. Check out local Ys or rec centers...they are usually cheaper than actual gyms. Also, if you can be flexible on days then some gyms offer really good monthly rates if you are willing to get a membership that is only good on certain days of the week. Hope you find something!!! |

Elite 4372 Connecticut | Subject: RE: P.O.G. Team Thread - Nov USMC Challenge Well team, I missed my workout yesterday. Bryan didn't get home until....well, I don't know when. I was feeling crappy and went to bed at 7:30. Yup, 7:30! I put the kiddos to bed early and crashed out. I am one who needs at least 8 hours of sleep a night and if I burn the candle at both ends for too long, I crash and burn. So, I crashed and burnt last night. Back on track today, I'll spend forever making up for it today! It's freezing here!!! With the wind chill, it's in the teens! Eek! Liam doesnt' have school so I won't be running outside today. Okay, let's be honest, I wasn't going to anyway! Too cold for me! I'll brave the weather tomorrow! Anyone an actuall fan of winter?????? Not me. |
