Veteran 151 Oxford | Subject: RE: Miami University Student Foundation Triathlon : Official Thread lovesreading - 2009-04-16 11:22 PM I'm so glad I didn't think about how cold it could have been this weekend. If I had, I never would have signed up for this! At least the thoughts of riding wet and cold have distracted me from my general fear of cycling... More questions: Is there a locker room for showering and changing afterward? Parking race morning: I'm guessing we triathletes (woo hoo - that felt good!) will fill up the parking garage. Will we be able to drop gear in TA first or do we have to haul all down from the garage? Do we have to get our packet before we set up in TA? Do you think the racers will fill up the garage? Will I have a race number both for me and for my bike? Can I have a bag (used gear, postrace stuff) in TA? I read somewhere here that can differ race to race for bags and coolers. To try to answer some of your questions Parking will not be a problem. The parking garage, in addition to street parking will be plenty. There will be a number of college students participating in this tri, and they will not be driving. The parking garage is right next to the TA, so if you are not able to drop your stuff off first, it should not be a problem. I have been told that the stall may be assigned based on your race number, so you may have to pick up your packet before setting up... I'll let you know as soon as I pick mine up tomorrow after work. There are lockerrooms in the rec center by the pool, though I am not sure if it will be open to participants after the race. If not, worst case scenario, you can buy a day pass to the facility ($9) and have access to the entire place. I sure hope we will be allowed to bring a bag since I will be riding my bike to the event and won't have a place to store my stuff otherwise... But I don't know! Sorry I have not been to helpful here! Maybe someone who has participated in the past can answer better! |

Master 2014 Ohio | Subject: RE: Miami University Student Foundation Triathlon : Official Thread In years past athletes have been able to get into the showers after the race. You need to pick up your packet before you go into transition. They should have someone posted at the entrance to the transition area only letting athletes in. You will not be able to get in without your bib number. I have no idea if the racers will be filling up the garage. Get there early to get a spot. Bags are ok in the TA. Just don't spread out too much, it's going to be crouded. I usually put mine by the fence after I've emptied it. That way it's out of the way of everybody else. |

Expert 769 Alpharetta (until we find a home) | Subject: RE: Miami University Student Foundation Triathlon : Official Thread Cant say I am real focused today at work. I have spent the last 30 min just looking at my only other point of comparison ( Sylvania sprint 2007) for this race and talking smack with myself how I am going to kick my own (then younger) butt. See y'all there. If I wear a shirt it will be either my krispy kreme challenge shirt or my "spina bifida can kiss my butt" shirt |

Expert 769 Alpharetta (until we find a home) | Subject: RE: Miami University Student Foundation Triathlon : Official Thread dave- you got sucked into the leg shaving cult? Since we have XL/Athena/MTN Bike divisions can we have a "traditional male" catagory for anyone who races with chest and/or leg hair? I did turn my mutton chops into slightly more respectable sideburns so I guess I shouldnt talk ( I didnt want to do it but since my wife started calling me Wolverine and I am a graduate of the Ohio State University I figured I should stop that) |

Bananas, Yeah, I started shaving my legs last year. The wife likes it, and I think I have the legs for it. I don't have chest hair to begin with so that was never an issue. Real men go hairless. Bubba, It happens to the best of us. No worries, mate. Edited by David tri's 2009-04-17 11:50 AM |

Master 1887 Loveland, Ohio | Subject: RE: Miami University Student Foundation Triathlon : Official Thread Aaawww. I love dogs. OK, I'll be wearing the tri suit over here in my avatar. I'll probably have on the same white ballcap. I may be wearing black pants and a black jacket over it, though. I'll be the one with the look of sadness or fear-of-death on her face. I'm generally a big smily person, but come race day, it goes away. Weird. I just posted this on the Cincy Express boards, but does anyone know how to get from Route 32, say Eastgate, over to Miami? My Mapquest directions bite - big time. Thanks. |

Veteran 151 Oxford | Subject: RE: Miami University Student Foundation Triathlon : Official Thread No best way to get there from eastgate. given low traffic, your best bet is to go around the 275 loop (North toward Columbus) and folloe it around till you get to 27North. It should take you about 1h and 10min to get there (I used to work on Beechmont and drove that every day). |

You're the second person who's told me to go that way, so I think that's what I'm going to do. Even if it adds a few minutes to my drive. I plan on leaving the house at 3:00 and have allowed for about an hour's worth of margin of error, so I'll be OK. |

I must have just missed you! Hey, it depends on what you are in the mood for! Junky pub grub, then you have to go to Mac & Joes. Their Chili Cheese fries are sure to grind your guts! If you want to Carb Load in style, then Paesanos, right down the street from the TA is your place! Very nice Italian there! German food, then Stein Keller right uptown! Awesome! Pizza, then you have to go with Bruno's uptown or carry out from SDS. It is all good! |

Delaware, OH | Subject: RE: Miami University Student Foundation Triathlon : Official Thread Well I just finished driving the course. HOLY COW BATMAN! Lots of hills, both granny and stand-n-mash types, sharp turns DOWNHILL and a loose cow (I think somewhere between Imhoff and Oxford Reily Rd.) Did I mention SHARP TURNS that my Athena sized butt can't make it around going FAST?!?! I'm sure I'll be fine. No road kill, but one horse plop by the Indian mounds. I road around campus- red t-shirt, PT belt and black shorts The college drunks were out in force and I was almost hit in every intersection. Just a lot of kids pulling out in front of me while I'm going down hill and picking up speed. I cuss like I'm married to a soldier....and i'm leaving it at that. The website SAYS you pick up your race packet at 501 E High St (MU REC Center)....but where you are really going is the corner of Chestnut St and Campus- you will see the back of the pool and the race trailers. Go up the Rocky-esque steps (that are labled NO BIKES INSIDE) and you will see the tables from there. |

Delaware, OH | Subject: RE: Miami University Student Foundation Triathlon : Official Thread No- not slow. Just need to reach out further and remember to PUSH on the back half of the stroke. Lupa and I did a 200 pull stroke drill on monday- each 25 you had to shorten your stroke count. I went from a normal 24/25 to 19 in a practice....just thinking about my arms, reaching more and pushing. Lupa said it best "you should look like a big cat in the water when they stalk. rotate side to side. be dangerous." Changed my entire stroke...now if I can just *keep* it up in that Loooooong pool tomarrow! Good night everyone! (I'm in an all black tri suit with a purple cycling jersy for the bike part) |

Veteran 207 Cincinnati, OH | Subject: RE: Miami University Student Foundation Triathlon : Official Thread Gaaaa....I'm so nervous. Got everything in the van, so it's time to go to bed and not sleep. I'm leaving about 4:30ish. My three year old "helped" me pack, so I'm wondering just what I'm missing.... I'll be in Cincy Express gear which is black accented garishly with red and YELLOW. Planning to swim in black bratop and trishorts then pull on longsleeved black top with my lovely tri singlet over it. See you all tomorrow :-) Cheryl |

(I'm in an all black tri suit with a purple cycling jersy for the bike part) I have recently cut it from 27 to 25 just actually focusing on pushing the water back. So, it sounds like I just need to continue that with even more of a focus on the backend of my stroke. Thanks for the tips! Heading to bed now myself - an hour later than I wanted - but everything's sitting out or packed, depending on what I'll need in the morning. Good night, everyone! See ya'll tomorrow! - Lora |
