Veteran 221 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Florida : Official Thread I feel your pain. I've been sidelined by an "injury" in a very sensitive location. A bartholin gland cyst which makes cycling almost impossible. Still waiting to see a doc about it. I've had surgery once, but it came back when I ramped up the cycling. I just changed my saddle and got refit to the bike, maybe it'll help? Praying... Either way, I'm going to race and if I don't finish I won't lose sleep over it. I'll be visiting with friends and having fun in Orlando!! |

Yea, there is no way I am going to be in "race shape" for this one but I am still looking forward to it. I have a 24 ultra marathon in a month that I am going to slog through for fun and then it is all eyes on Florida. We are staying over at the OMNI resort which looks nice so even if my race doesn't go well I should have a nice mini-vacation! |

Extreme Veteran 326 Zephyrhills, FL | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Florida : Official Thread for those who were asking about the swim start.......the larger the age group, the more waves are in that age group. so for the m30-34 and 35-39 i think there were 3 waves per age group last year. im sure there are many more age groups that have numerous waves, but i know for a fact that those two age groups did. if i remember correctly, the waves go alphabetically, so because my last name begins with an L i was in the middle 30-34 group last year. |

Veteran 526 Richmond | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Florida : Official Thread Thanks Jon for the swim start info. Based on 2009 race results, there were 239 in M30-34 and 363 in M35-39 age groups. With 3 waves that means approx. 80 - 120 swimmers per wave start. That sounds better than 200-400 starters at a time! Does that sound about right? |

Champion 6046 New York, NY | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Florida : Official Thread So looks like I will be undertrained for this race - knee is really unhappy - took yesterday totally off, and am really in pain....I think I nailed my MCL and the insertion of satorius/gracillis - which translates to easy week of maybe easy spin on trainer and swim....and eventually ramping those and aqua jog for 6-12 weeks..... I am still coming but no major plans to do great things :-( |

Regular 82 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Florida : Official Thread Wow... So, we're all getting into single digit weeks for this big day. I'm feeling good about my swim work and the progress of my swim training times. The bike is starting to pick up as the weather is trying to break out of the 30-degree range into a much better 60+..!! Got a new Cervelo S1 back in late Dec. and I've just finished tricking it out with all the "best fit for me" gear. The run training is where I'm looking to place some concentration over the next 6-weeks. Looking to do several smart progressive training runs with some 10k and a 13.1 event to spark some fitness level measurements. Really want to have my running as solid as I can since I'm thinking that by the time I get out of T2 the temp is going to be 80+ and fitness is going to be key. This is my 1st HIM and I want to go at it smart with an idea of looking at a finish in the 6:45:00 area. |

I am going to have to stop reading this thread if you people keep talking about much time left we have to train....it is freaking me out! I broke my scapula 10 days ago (yes I know that is hard to do and yes I did it) fortunately it was at the beginning of my 'recovery week' which really made a week that I had just planned to take it easy(er) into a week where I did nothing but a few 60 min walks on the treadmill. On Sunday I went for a run with friends and I was SO SLOW and my heart rate was SO FAST, not the right combination for my lofty time goals!!! Anyway, I can be back to biking (on a trainer or spin bike) and running this week but I'm not sure when the swimming is going to be able to get worked back into the training program Tritoy and sarahswhere - just showing up for a 70.3 IS doing a great thing!! Thanks! I decided it was okay to show up less than perfectly trained. I want to meet some cool people, see some friends I haven't seen in a long time, and give it what I can. There's nothing wrong with a DNF. (Gasp! Sacrilege!) If I can finish, great! If not, I'm not going to care much. There will be other races. |

Extreme Veteran 546 Oakland, Florida | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Florida : Official Thread Doing an open water swim at Lucky's lake in Orlando Saturday and then riding out to the Disney HIM bike course and doint 55 plus miles. I know it has been mentioned in the past on here, but this is a great place to do an OWS if you arrive early in the week for the race. I like all of the talk now on here it is getting me pumped! |

Veteran 184 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Florida : Official Thread I know somebody else mentioned this earlier in the thread, but I checked a few pages and couldn't find it... (I'll look more when I get a chance!) Anyway, the wife and I were looking to get a cabin at Fort Wilderness, and thought we'd see if anyone else wanted to join in- aside from being right next door to the start/finish, the full kitchen and extra space seem like good benefits. As far as I can gather, 3 adults is probably the max for a cabin, especially with bikes, etc. We're planning on staying the 13th-17th (4 nights) and the cost (before I hunt for online coupons) is $250/night with tax/fees included. If you'd want to join in, and can handle two relatively new tri athletes, let me know. I guess PM me if that works, or respond here and we can work something out. We fly in from Phoenix on the 13th, so any or all of those days work for sharing the cabin. Thanks, Kris |

Member 182 Flowery Branch, Ga | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Florida : Official Thread Hey guys. Just wanted to introduce myself. I am entered in the Florida 70.3 and am very excited about the event. This is my first triathlon and I am nervous. I have been on a training plan for 8 weeks or so and all is going well. I am decent on the bike, slow and steady on my feet and a little weak on my swim. I am increasing my swimming a little right now to get it going. I live in Atlanta and will also be doing my first 1/2 marathon next week. I have been doing a little extra running the past few weeks and think I should be ready to FINISH it. Haha. I am not a speedster. Anyway, I wanted to introduce myself and thank you for the posts. I have been reading them for a while but wanted to join in on the discussion. |

Extreme Veteran 360 Jacksonville, FL | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Florida : Official Thread This will be my 2nd time doing this race. Any other veterans? Those of you not from FL might be a little surprised at the rolling hills on part of the bike route. Normally, people think of FL and they think pancake flat. That's not exactly the case here. While none of the hills will kill you - it's not flat. |

Extreme Veteran 546 Oakland, Florida | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Florida : Official Thread Hope everyones training is going well. Did 65 miles and 5 mile run today. I live near the Disney 70.3 course and I am off the week before the race. If anyone is coming in early part of the week let me know we can meet or a easy run, ride, or swim. I am leaving Thursday night to fly to Raleigh, NC to see my youngest daughter graduate from NC state and will not be back until 7:00 Saturday night. So early week will be my only time to meet some of the BT triathletes. I have made several friends from local races that I met on this site. Keep up the training. Brian |
