D001 - 2009-11-05 7:40 PM  You mean like the PF that I'm currently dealing with? Yeah, I hear you..... I'm still trying to run slog on it, and then "wondering" why it hurts so much the next morning. My middle name is "denial."

Hey, it worked for Guns and Roses....

I believe D001 you said a certain amount of "ribbing" was to be expected in this... I was only messing with all of ya, you have great goals, and they are yours to set! But, I'm still glad to provoke some discussion on the subject...

But on a serious note:

I had a great "easy" run outside tonight in nice 50 degree weather and I was coming up with ideas on why running outside, even in the cold, is better than inside on the treadmill.  Here is my first reason:

#1 Snot Rockets: Perfectly ok when running outside all by myself, but for some reason it gathers very disgusted looks from other people at the gym when performed on the treadmill...hmmm...

Please feel free to add more reasons

No no, I have sucky goals. (Will the BT censor let that one pass through? Stay tuned. LOL) I completely admit it. But the way I see it -- if I wasn't doing a challenge, I'd have NO goals. So anything is better than nothing.

And I've just made a note to myself that if I ever see you on a treadmill, that I should opt to run someplace else that day.

I just checked out the spreadsheet and it looks like everyone is doing pretty well... But, I'm seeing that many of you have already completed 25% of your goals, and we are not even through the first week of the month!... Doesn't that mean most of you need to be making your goals more difficult???

Perhaps (that's me at 25%).  But I am only going to the pool once a week.  I might increase my biking but to be honest, 8 sessions is pretty realistic for me.  12....not so much.  Maybe I'll increase it to 10.  Would that make you happy??

Like Dee said, you can always increase your goal, but I'd recommend waiting til the end of the month in case you end up needing that cushion.

{raises hand}  Ohh, that's me  - supremely confident at the beginning of the month, but as life happens I end up falling short...

x2. And then I get all stressed out because I *need* to hit my goal, but there's sooooo much going on, and I get more stressed out because I'm not hitting my goal, and there's still soooo much going on and,.... Well you get the idea. It kind of just cycles around for awhile.

Unless that cycle gets cut short by overuse injury because goals were set too high -- hopefully I've learned that lesson!
You mean like the PF that I'm currently dealing with? Yeah, I hear you..... I'm still trying to run slog on it, and then "wondering" why it hurts so much the next morning. My middle name is "denial."

Hiya, Turkeys!  Sounds like everyone's had some good workouts the past few days.  Listening to all y'all talk about Jorge's plan, I'm glad I decided to put if off for a few weeks to try and get used to just being on the bike again.

I had a busy schedule the first half of the week but I managed to get in some biking and running.  Today I'm back to work.  I have to go to a meeting and then I'm going to try and take advantage of this fab weather and get out there for a trail run.

It ain't that bad...  It's just week 1...  I have had spin classes that were harder than the first workout...  I'm just sayin'...

So, basically, you're saying I should Suck It Up Buttercup and just start the program already.

As long as you are not injured or anything now...  I just use RPE myself until I get my hrm fixed / new hrm...  If you can't hammer it then don't - ride your own race (so to speak...)

Yay for the weekend - time to get caught up on working out. One of these days I'll figure out how to workout during the week. One cool thing is my students get a yoga class each week and yesterday I did it with them - so there's 20 minutes!

The crud is creeping back away, I think I have scared it with adequate rest this week, tho' I am not sure my husband remembers my name because I've been going to sleep before we even have time to say hello at night almost!

Slickster - did you get that name from the snot rockets? The main reason I prefer to run outside is that I am completely a klutz on a treadmill - I run up the front, I fall off the back, and I bang my hands and arms into the rails and stuff. I drop my water bottle and towel and they shoot out the back. Pretty much a comedy routine.

Tomorrow is my long run day. I am supposed to do 9 but may back off depending on my cough and crud status. But run I will, it's going to be beautiful here in central FL this weekend!

Hope everyone enjoys their Friday!

I did my 3rd swim of the week. I've been pushing my speed a bit with quicker stroke turnover so I'm feeling pretty tired by the end of the swim, but it's a good tired!

Go Turkeys!

BTW, I've decided to try to make this my biggest ever swimming month so I've increased my goal to 23,000m

After an illness filled month last month, I'm re-attempting my running goal for October.  But while I started October full of mental energy and happiness towards my goal, I'm really slogging it this month.  I have no mental interest in running.  It's a complete and utter bear.  ARGH!  Wednesday, after a failed run filled with walking, I cut my losses and rode the bike.  no issues, zip, felt fine.  But somehow the running is dragging this month.  maybe it's just this week but boyoboy I've got no interest in making this work.

Anyone got some extra mental fortitude I could use for a bit?

Uninspired-ly yours,
one cold turkey,

Maybe a change in scenery will help.  I know I get bored when doing the same old same over and over again.  Any trails you can run on?  Or maybe just a different route that you can try out?  Know anyone else that would want to go for a run with you?  Company can make a run fly by!

Awesome photo!  I always find an extreme amount of motivation by watching all of the old Ironman Championships (replayed frequently on Universal Sports CH), the stories they cover are just great...

Law office and things are quiet today and it's beautiful outside and it's supposed to cool down tomorrow, so even tho I have no run/ride on the books for today I'd go run/ride anyway.  Too bad there are bills to pay.  Reality sux!

thanks all.  after griping here I went a ran 2.25 at a not too unreasonable pace with a decent attitude.  I would have liked to run further but wanted to come away with still positive mental energy.  SO.  better.

I think I'll ignore the planned longer runs for now and just try to get over 2 miles with a reasonable attitude each time and maybe the distance will come when my mind is happier. frustrating, but I don't want to drag through workouts either.

ashort- I remember the first photo I saw of one of those high tech legs - a Runner's World in late 80's?  almost makes you want to lose a leg.

I realize too I'm grumpy outside of running too so I'm taking a mental health morning tomorrow and sending DH with my kids to the 4yo birthday party.  Dunno what I'll do yet, but there will be no kids whining "mama"  Laughing

Sarah (who was in the picture) was the first female amputee finisher at Kona.  Her story is amazing to read and even better to watch.  I think I need to go train now!
