mchally - 2009-12-18 4:23 PM This could be an interesting training tool.  I am tempted to buy it and see how if effects my stroke.

That's really interesting.  I've used paddles a lot.  With the ones I have, if you put your hand in the water wrong, you know it because it becomes impossible to do a stroke.

Now that I am reading this I think it is actually one of the few situations where affect is correct...I had originally typed affect.  I should trust my instincts.

x2!  But that's just what I need right now so I don't blow it this holiday season!

My gym that has helped me TREMENDOUSLY over the past year has asked me to do a '"success story" type of thing for their new web site, and now has asked for some pics, so I was going thru some and decided to put a couple on this site in an album.  It was a lot of work, but OHHHH so worth it, and I am so happy to be were I am now.   Eating healthy for the next two weeks and having to write it down will make me focus again!

Wow!  I just looked at your pics - and amazing!  Good for you - you must be so proud; especially to be featured as inspiration to others! (that pool in your 'after' pic is really intimidating looking)

What?  you want us to be honest and write down what we eat? lol.  Is there a definition to the word 'healthy' that I should be using?  ...I'll try...and I'll be honest!

I did a long run on the treadmill watching Kona and got so into it that I didn't even notice a nasty blister develop on my pinkie toe.  Now I'm just hobbling around.

Jen - good to know some flights from Japan are arriving...hopefully by the time my sister lands in NYC tomorrow afternoon, things will be under control.

I think what you define as healthy is fine.  I'm sure we all have slightly different ideas.

Hope your foot feels better soon!

Artemis - 2009-12-19 4:19 PM Healthy Eating Challenge!!

How it works: For the next two weeks (basically until the end of December), eat healthy at least 4 - 5 days per week.  That's at least 8 - 10 times in the next 12 days.

Current participants: Jen, Erin, Kathy, Melody, Kat, Kim, Karen, Melissa

Anyone else want in?

Let us know how it's going here!

Additional option: post what you are eating in your blog (I usually just write it at the bottom, so you can check mine out for an example)

In January, we can maybe start tracking weight loss, too, if people want (does NOT have to be your weight, just the change!)

Okay, I confess, I haven't really started the healthy eating challenge yet - two parties in two days!  But today is a new day so...

Today will be a healthy eating day for me.  Mostly that will be reasonable meals and no unhealthy snacks in between.  And I think a break from the "spirits" is in order.  Also, I WILL go to the gym today!  There - "as it is written, so let it be done" (is that how that goes?).

Y'all have a great day!

lol!! That is the olympic pool in Montreal.  It and the whole olympic swim complex was pretty impressive and yeah I guess intimidating.  Unfortunately, there is NOTHING like that in small town Regina!

I am really depressed today and would like to spend the day in bed, but I went out, ran some errands, went to the gym and swam for at least half an hour.

I'm going to have to pick your brain Nicole for advise on bikes soon!  I only have an ol' mountain bike and my goal for the new year is to purchase a new one.  Don't know if I should go for the road bike or a tri-bike yet.   My sisters boss (multi-time ironman) has offered to sell me his tri bike - but it might be more bike than I need at this stage.   I still need to get more info on it, all I know is it's a cervelo - he paid over 4500 and is asking 2200.

It depends in part on what types of races you'll be doing, what type of riding you like to do, and what your goals are. If you ride a tri bike you've got to be comfortable using the aerobars and be able to use them for at least 75% of your ride to gain the advantage they are designed for.

My road bike has a triple so it's better for hilly routes that I wouldn't ride the tri bike on. It's also what I use in the house on the trainer or rollers.

I had a relatively healthy eating day, ate reasonably portioned meals and no poor snacks so that's a success for me for now.

Also, I went to the gym and did my mini-tri workout.

Tomorrow - planning another healthy eating day.  No real training plans.

You will want to make sure the bike is a good fit before you buy it.

If I was on the market for a bike I would go with a nice road bike and throw some aero bars on it.

Yes, a road bike with aerobars is the most versatile setup; it got me through 2 years of tri, and there are some races that are too hilly for me and the tri bike.

The most important thing about getting a new bike is proper fit.  If you go with this bike make sure it fits you properly before even considering buying it.
