Wave 6 for me..... I don't like getting to T1 to see that my bike is there when most everybody else is on the road, however, I rather have wave start than a massive start.

LockOut - 2011-08-23 12:11 PM

3rd here. I assume, since I'll be one of the first to go, I'll see you guys on the course at some point

It's probably a numbers game, but they seem to have some pretty odd AGs in some of the waves... like M & W 60+ going in the 3rd wave. Is that common?

They mix the waves a lot, especially in longer races - it's more equitable, just cause you're young or fast shouldn't mean you get to go first (unless a Pro) - but also means that they are mixing the course a little bit which may or may not cut down on bike drafting.

I'm 4th - don't forget to smile and wave when you swim past

I got the note from Deerhurst yesterday and have to say my heart started racing... hard to believe it's almost here.

Wave 7 for me...sweet...that means fewer folks swimming over top of me....but I guess if you are fast...could get conjested pretty quick...I wont have to worry about that thou. Also means an ton of folks on the bike course in front....hmmmm.

Two weeks to go!!  Put in the last big effort today, and from here on out it's taper time.  Whatever fitness/speed I've put together is now complete.  Hope everyone else is getting psyched up.

Big effort is right - hill repeats on 6th line?? I did it once for the first time yesterday - I'm just happy I didn't have to stop on it! You may have passed me - timing looks the same.I'm in beautiful Georgian Bay this week so will focus a bit more on some hilly runs but ya- no more biking.Does anyone know if they'll post an athletes guide?

kimmax - 2011-08-28 11:14 AM Big effort is right - hill repeats on 6th line??

I figured the best way to try and simulate that last 30km on the Muskoka course is to punish myself a little with hill repeats at the end of the ride.  This was a longer ride so I kept the hill repeats down a bit, but for the past couple of 3hr rides I did Appelby twice, 6th three times, and Steeles once, all in the last hour.

Luckily I live 5 min from the Steeles climb and can basically roll home with no more effort needed.  I sure hope it pays off on race day!

I'm doing the same thing but in my neighbourhood, Orangeville. I do the hill
repeats on 3rd line between Hockley Rd and 5 Side Rd (Mono). This is the access Rd
to Hockey Valley Resort. Low traffic and some shadow from the trees, plus the
asphalt is in good shape. I'm always on the watch for deers that may want to
cross the Rd while going downhill at 70 km/hr. Beautiful place to train and enjoy
the landscape. Now is time to slow down and build some energy for the race.

Interesting - no mention for an athlete meal on the night before the race.  This was offered in 09, not sure about last year.

Also seems to be a misprint that shows transition closing at 6:30am - another section says 7:30am.  Still means the later groups need to wait around for an hour, but so be it.

Last year, there was a welcome banquet on friday night (or this is what was stated on the athlete's guide for 2010... )

This year, nothing's there... ??

Given there isn't going to be an athlete/welcome dinner before the race, is anyone interested in getting together for some type of group BT dinner on the Saturday evening?  Not sure if this is something people would/wouldn't want to do, so just putting it out there.  Partners, spouses would of course all be included.

Definitely interested! I don't know what is around, though (despite driving through town about 6 times a year :S). Probably would be a good idea to make a reservation sometime soon, no matter about numbers.

Info on the Athlete's Dinner has been emailed out. I'd still be down for a BT dinner, though, whether it's there, or at a restaurant.

Don't know yet for the BT dinner. Sounds appealing but might be stuck with my training buddies as they are doing the race too

I saw the email for the buffet dinner at Deerhurst, but I'm not sure that's the route I want to take.  I'm usually a big fan of buffet, but the night before the race I don't really want the temptation of all that food, especially the deserts.

When is everyone planning to get up to Deerhurst anyway?  I won't be up until sometime early on Saturday.  Plan to register, go for a short swim and short bike (20-25min tops).  Can't leave my wife sitting around by herself for too long.

Definitely a good point. There is an East Side Mario's and a 3 guys and a stove there, as well.

I'll be going on Friday, and then showing up again on Saturday, probably late morning or early afternoon.

Dinner sounds like fun but after days-weeks-months of my yammering on about my training and the race I'm going to try and focus on hubby and child this weekend and not make it all about my race. Especially considering Sunday will likely be an all day event for me and I might be immobile on Monday LOL. I will be doing a swim Sat at some point. Hope everyone's enjoying the taper!
