TriAya - 2010-12-28 2:33 PM crystalashworth - 2010-12-29 5:30 AM I really like the idea of the Google Doc thing. We have embraced Google Docs here at work, and they've grown on me. So far I just added everyone as Friends - so I can cruise their training logs easier and post the Inspires there. So, for someone that is in mediocre shape, but isn't super overweight, would it be possible to just go with the Original 13 week Sprint plan? It says you should have a baseline for swim, run and bike - and I'm not sure if I have those, but I started on the Michael Pates 22 wk one back in November, and I think now that I missed a month of training due to sick kiddos - it is going to start me off too slow and not prepare me for my 03/20/11 Sprint date. Thoughts? 13-week should be fine--just really listen to your body and be at a conversational/whole-sentence workout exertion, especially during the runs. Ditto what Yanti said, plus I"ll add that when you go out to do a workout if you just feel exhausted and feel you can't, ask yourself "Will this impede me from doing my workout tomorrow?" If the answer is yes, then back off, rest/recover or do something less strenuous, if the answer is no -- go for it! |

I am doing the sprint in June with my family and will be going head to head against my brother who is a year older then me. It will be a close race that I don't want to lose. My training plan for the Half Ironman will start on Jan 15th and my tri club practices start the last week of January. |

My wife got into supporting me after my first race in October, I hope she will be hooked to sport soon too. Vietnam suppose to be one of the most scenic races, Phuket is well know for its organization as a popular tropical race, and its easy for me to get there. Chiang Sean is 3 hours drive, and its local race with swim in Meagkong river. Bintan in Indonesia suppose to be another beautiful place to visit. I will post race reports after I finish. |

I went down to bronze when I renewed because I was not using the plans with the silver. I don't remember the plan exactly, but I was not crazy about it. If I remember correctly, it went by time and not distance and I wanted distance. |

All domestic flights suspended due to a national emergency. Thankfully the crisis is over, it didn't work out too well for Indonesia, and it'll take a while for the lined-up flights to get back moving, but hopefully I'll be outta here by midnight. I do have running shoes and dry-tech clothing on. I suppose i could go for a brisk walk ... |

Am I crazy-town to think I could tackle that this year? There's one in this area on August 28th. Have a great day everyone! 1) it's not a plan for beginner, first-time, or slower marathoners (4:30+). if any of that applies, no, it's not a good plan for you. 2) for ymca, aim to have fun and finish. most of the training for that will be accomplished by swimming and cycling being cross-training for the marathon. use an oly plan to build up to it but be very cautious in scheduling long bikes near your marathon long runs. [btw it is possible to train for a marathon without doing lots of overly long runs, but that would involve running an awful lot, frequently, throughout the week]. use august to really beef up your cycling volume in prep for shooby dooby. [why can i not write that without chuckling ...] as for the others--bryan du is way too close after marathon. you can du it, but you will hate yourself, and it's a bad idea, especially off-road. cross-border sounds good, fits in well, keeps your running fitness sharp. also, you can either du on sep 4th OR oly on sep 11, but not both. 3) sure, why not? but keep in mind that i'm insane and i'll pretty much do anything and hold your hand while you jump off a cliff, too. the main thing is having a later-season him that you could feasibly do, and that during the summer/early fall you have the time available to do some major cycling. 56mi is no joke. |

I did some puny arm weights and squats to help in the strength department. Gotta get the back and hips strong so I won't injure myself. I tell ya, getting older makes it tougher on the body. But, I'm in the best shape I've been in years. Can't go back now. My race plans are: Carmel sprint tri in April--most likely One America Mini Marathon (1/2) Indianapolis in May--confirmed Racine 70.3 in July--not signed up, but most likely...yikes! Monumental Marathon Indianapolis in Nov--most likely Probably a couple of short distance run races over the summer to keep it interesting. Finances are always an issue when selecting races. Last year I did 4 sprint tris, and two run races and it added up. |
