GO RACING MANATEES!

I had a defining moment today!  I finally made it onto the public roads with my bike shoes!  Clipping in and out etc.  I rode along Beach Rd in heavy sunny Sunday afternoon traffic.  I was SOOOO lucky with the stop lights, generally they were going green as I got there.  About four got me though but I managed to slow down, unclip and not gracefully get my foot on the floor, I was probably 30 yards from the stop light but I had succeeded!  I rode 20km out then 10km back stopped for coffee and cake at my friends vegan cafe (met her at swim squad!).

Then I rode another 15km turned around and went back again - all up 73km.

I was getting tired though which made me careless, unclipped left then thought about putting right foot down doh!  Down she goes in front of lots of interested onlookers!  Oops!

About 500m from this spot I had a drink and my bottle (souvenir from Kona someone got me) didn't make it back to the cage... ((((

Never mind, stowed my bike back in the car, changed into running shoes and hat and did a 20min run walk in the setting sun.

Back to the car drove 15km to retrieve my special drink bottle - unscratched!  yay!

This my fellow manatees is a BIG breakthrough for me.

My average speed was 27kph with lots of stopping and traffic.  When there was no traffic I was cruising along at around 30-32kph.  On the downhills up to 45kph - I 'm so pleased to have done this.

If hadn't been getting dark I would have tried for my century - but it's enough.  Feel good.  Celebrating with an Asian beer ASAHI!  YUM.  CARBS.

OK pod members, need some help.  I am racing on Monday as you know.  Wasn't going to go too hard, mostly wanted the swim race practice.  I am scheduled to do another sprint next Saturday--signed up to do it with a friend.  It is a pool swim, I would have been racing first.  I was going to do the swim, wait for her, then do the bike and run together.  Point being I was not going to go hard at all, just would be fun to do with a friend.  I am also possibly doing a charity half marathon in June.  So now my friend has injured her ankle and can't do the race.  And I skipped my long run today so that I wasn't too fatigued for Monday.

Soooooo, question.  Do I do both races easy?  Do I do 'race' the race on Monday and do the one on Saturday easy.  Do I race Monday and skip Saturday?  Do I do my long run tomorrow and go easy on Monday?  hellllllllllp!

Since they are sprint distances and almost a week apart, I'd race them both.  Good luck!

Ewwwwww and yaaaaaaaaaay beer!  If I had a beer the night before a run, I would run even slower than I do now...

oh gosh, it's carbo-loading. I am certain it helps with speed.

That's my take on it.

Jo, have been praying for you and your daughter. I have been in a similar situation and it is a terrifying place to be.

Thinking of the racing Manatees and hope all has been going well and continues to throughout this long racing weekend.

Not content with making us all feel bad with your swimming prowess, you now start to rub it in with the biking too. Good workout and great news on finding your special Kona bot bot.

I'm with the others, push hard on them both, no point doing it if you are going to potter around knowing you can go faster but are deliberately holding back.

Had to make you wait for it hahaha...

By my garmin time it was 1:17:43!!  Which is :17 faster than the goal I had setup for the July race and a PR at the sprint distance.  Raining this morning but cleared up by race time, although wet roads and wind were a factor.  I was second out of the water in my wave at about 9:15, my bike was 37, slower than I wanted but wind was a factor and I passed more than was passed so cool there.  My run was 27 flat.  That's my fastest run time EVER!  I am very happy with my race and will post a RR once the official results are in.

OK you other racing Manatees lets keep it going!!

Good job kirk, PR is excellent, especially if you had wet roads and wind. Look forward to the RR.

Jo -- I'm so sorry about your daughter's situation. I'm glad that you have her safe, and I hope things continue going well. My niece and mother have a restraining order against my niece's ex-boyfriend. He can't get out of jail. Every time they release him, he makes contact with my niece, my mother calls the police, and they lock him up again, adding more time. Seriously, he's been in jail for the last five years, with just a few days out every year or so. It's ridiculous. He needs to get a life.

Adrienne -- I'm glad you made it to packet pick up. You should be on the course by now. I'm sure you will be excellent -- corral one. Wow.

Kirsten -- I love your shave. I have thought of doing that so many times, never for such a good reason/cause as you did. -- Do both races. :-) You could do one of them easy, but I think you'd be okay doing both.

Kate -- I think the beanie is a great swag item. And I even love pink. Good luck with the race!

Kirk -- Knock them dead. You are a machine -- the bike ride last weekend, and now this race. -- and you're back already! Damn that time zone thing. Great race! Excellent time. Speedy fast run.

Jo -- Great job with your bike ride. And I'm glad you found your Kona bottle. That is a great workout -- with the brick run on top of it.

Yanti -- I hope the craziness is working itself out. I continue to pray for you and your mom.

Good morning, Manatees!

We still have wind. (sigh) I am so done with the wind right now.

My run yesterday was truly miserable. But I made it through, and I feel good about that, at least. The only thing encouraging me as I was suffering through it was the thought that I didn't have to run today.

I'm hoping to drag everyone to the YMCA pool this afternoon and get some swimming in. I'd love to take a bike ride, as well, but  . . .  I will do it. The wind is just really starting to oppress me.

I hope everyone has a peaceful day today and that the racers are knocking it out of the park. (Like Kirk already did this morning!)
