Mostly stuck to the plan I was given for January.  I could have, should have swam more but I didn't miss a bike or run session that was scheduled.  I haven't looked past next weeks recovery week, but logic would say that the volume will ramp up some in February.

January's totals:
Bike:20h 35m 08s  - 389.99 Mi
Run:14h 09m 04s  - 97.46 Mi
Swim:2h 18m 06s  - 6750 Yd

I am indeed talking about the Flower City Challenge! I haven't been able to do it the past two years because of Saturday classes I was taking that conflicted with the duathlon, but this year it worked out for me. And I fired in for Florida 70.3 in May. It's nice to know another Rochester area person will be racing in Florida for both races this year. Have a great season and maybe we can catch up at one of these races!

Either at the races or if you want to come down to Canandaigua we do a lot of open water swimming at the park during the summer.

January Totals:

Swim: 19, 650y

Bike: 318mi

Run: 102mi

Coach and I are trying to get some early swim and bike endurance in before this last push to Boston in April. Run mileage will be picking up a fair amount until then. Weather has been harsh on the bike volume and I am not a fan of the "drainer", as I call it. I still plan on the Gulf Coast Tri, if I'll get off my lazy a$$ and register.
Next race is the Rocket 10miler in a few weeks.
Happy training,
Doc

I am in base training for Gulf Coast and the miles are really starting to ramp up.  I am following a modified version of Friel's Your Best Triathlon for this and IMFL.  This is the most biking miles I have ever done in a month.

Bike: 438 miles
Run: 90 miles
Swim: 26400 yards

Regarding tips for using the Garmin 910 in training.  When you're setting up to go do a single workout, if you hold down the Mode button for a couple of seconds it brings up a menu which allows you to select, run, bike, or swim.  Pretty handy not having to scroll through a bunch of menus just to change sport.

After a year of using it I almost always now remember to select the sport I'm actually doing.

Melissa and Chris, it's good to see you guys back!

. You too Jashac, it seems like forever since 2008.

All kinds of good stuff going on around here. Quick ship orders to Memphis in April, all kinds of goodness associated with this move: no deployment for the wife for 3 years, good schools for my kids, teaching jobs for me, new lab puppies, nice rental house......Memphis in May triathlon weekend and Rev3 knox half. Looking forward to it all. But, I'm going to PR the Shamrock Marathon here in Virginia beach before we head out of town......sure wish I would remember to go swim. It's been a loooong time.

how big is the pet?  how picky are you?  I stay at a place that is super cheap, on the run course and has allowed a small dog...but it is NOT fancy AT ALL...I like it b/c it's away from the hub bub-about 1 mile from expo and all...I have stayed there with my kids.  Again...bare bones, mom and pop.

If you want a place on the Gulf there are all kinds of places up and down Front Beach Road and they will be very inexpensive. However, if you don't stay within walking distance it can create a logistical problem. You will not be allowed to park anywhere near the start/finish line in the days leading up to the race You will have to park at Wal-Mart which is a 1/2 mile walk to transition. This wouldn't be so bad if it were just on race day. However, you have to sign in on Wednesday/Thursday. If you are going to the pasta dinner you will need to come back on Thursday evening. You have to drop of your bike and transition bags on Friday. Show up early for the race on Saturday. Plus, it is very inconvenient for any family members who may be making the trip.

Need a place as well. However after having to get up at 3am to catch the ferry for IMNYC I'm really not worried about staying a few minutes down the beach. Last time I did IMFL, I stayed close to the finish, my first IM, mike Reilly didn't give me the "you're an ironman" line that i had been waiting to hear. but i was so close that from my room i had to listen to him say it over and over from 7-midnight for others, it was like he was rubbing it in

She's a small dog. I'm fine with bare bones but need 3 bedrooms. How difficult is it getting around PCB race weekend? I like the idea of staying away a bit and found a place 3 miles out for what I considered cheap ($900 for the week)

My in-laws own a couple of condos at the Moonspinner, which is the last condo on the beach before you enter the state park (on the run course).  I'll be staying there even though it's a bit away from the start...few miles or so.  They have some nice condos that you might want to look into.  Just my $.02.

Getting around PCB race week is not a big deal. If you are going to drive to the Boardwalk then it really doesn't matter if you are 2 miles away or 5 miles away. When we volunteered last year we were about 5 miles from transition and had no problem making it to the Wal-Mart where they recommend you park.
