Master 2468 Muskego, Wisconsin | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas 2015 Parking is super easy down there. There are numerous parking garages that you can get into throughout the day. My wife was able to leave and come back numerous times with our children. The fee in the past has ranged between free and $5. Some will tell you to just park in the mall parking lot as many have had success with that option, however, with the threat of being towed and my awesome luck I have always just payed the $5 and parked where we were told to park. Either way, getting into and out of the venue is really easy, all day long. |

Member 1293 Pearland,Tx | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas 2015 Originally posted by toodamnbroke So I have a family support logistics questions for those who have been through this. We live in the Heights, and sadly my daughter's ballet recital is the same day as IMTX. I told all my family to go and support her then try and make it to the Woodlands. Her recital ends at 5 or so and I'm trying to figure out what might be the best way to get them to the run course. I just don't know much about the Woodlands and even less about race day accommodations and parking for family and friends. And help will be appreciated. Thanks Justin Justin Looking at your workouts at Garmin Connect Sorry man if your Daughter's recital ends at 5 they may just meet you at the hotel Get what i mean Goodluck!! Man to you and your daughter |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas 2015 This weeks workouts included long swim of 4800 yard, long bike 105, long run 17 miles. If it weren't for the top of my knee being iffy I would say I am ready. As it is though I will just be hoping things hold together. |

Regular 389 | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas 2015 Bib #2684. Weather here in N. FL has really cramped my big training week (thunderstorms all week). Trainer ride today and had to miss pool swim, more of same throughout the week and into weekend. I'll run in it, but really hoping my 5:30 ride scheduled on Friday isn't on the trainer----fingers crossed. Bad timing for bad weather. Hope everyone is doing well. Tom |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas 2015 Bib # 2548 here. Right knee iffy, but able to get the workouts in. I am hoping the taper helps the knee. It is a top of the knee muscle thing, not a joint thing. I think I had my seat too far forward. |

1502 Katy, Texas | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas 2015 I didn't realize there were any sites out there that actually gave a forecast for that far in advance. Now I have something to obsessively check every day.... Everywhere I look I hear that there is a tail wind at the beginning of the bike and a head wind at the end. So that would align with the forecast of wind from the SE. However, if you look right now, the wind direction is totally different every day. So does it get more consistent in May or something? Or am I just holding on to hope that the wind direction could be totally different than what is expected? |

New user 175 Houston, Texas | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas 2015 In Houston summers, it rains somewhere almost every day. I didn't believe that until I worked in outside sales for 7 years and would get this random downpour in one part of town and the rest of town is clear skies. Don't worry about the weather here until a few days before, it'll change. |

Pro 4723 CyFair | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas 2015 Generally in early May you start to see the wind blow consistently in off the coast and any kind of fronts stall prior to reaching us. You get lots of stray afternoon thunderstorms coming in off the coast as well. |

Member 560 Utah | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas 2015 Are any of you doing long bricks as part of your training? I have read mixed things about the benefit for them in long course like IM. I have done short transition runs off my long bike rides, but my training plan calls for a 1 hour swim, then a 50 mile bike, then a 12 mile run next Saturday. I am wondering if the time wouldn't be better spent getting another long ride in? My peak weak is really this week, with a final 100 mile ride and an 18 mile run, so those wouldn't be compromised. Just don't think I see the need of a long day like that and if it couldn't be better used. FWIW, I am self coached, and this is a plan I have been following off of Training Peaks |

Master 2468 Muskego, Wisconsin | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas 2015 You've trusted your plan this long, why stop now? Just curious. As for your question, every time I get close to the end of an IM training plan I always do a long swim/medium bike/medium run....but that is just something that I do. It tells me where I am at compared to my other IM training blocks. |

FWIW, I am self coached, and this is a plan I have been following off of Training Peaks I personally do not see value in long bricks. The longest I go after a long bike is 1 hour (right around 8 miles). If you want to be a better runner then you need to run more. Bricks will not make you a better runner. The main purpose of bricks in long course after long rides is to ensure your nutrition and bike pacing are correct. I also have a 100 mile ride Saturday but 2 weeks out is usually the start of taper for me. That is when volume will go down but intensity will go up. Other than the 12 mile brick run your plan looks similar. The 50 mile bike ride should be above IM race intensity but I would not follow that up with a long brick run. You know your plan best so go with what your gut and body are telling you. |

This. There are zero physiological benefits to long bricks other than blowing a huge recovery hole in your plan. |

Member 560 Utah | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas 2015 The reason I was looking at ditching it anyway is that the weekend is a crazy one and I don't know when I would fit it all in back to back at once. I can't take any more time off of work since I am taking an entire week off for the race, then my son has his own swim meet that will go most of the weekend. I can get all the parts of it in at some point, not just all at once like the plan calls for. I don't really think it will hurt me. I am going to do all of it, but not together. My training has been pretty solid up to this point and I haven't had any nutrition issues, I think my pacing is fine, so there aren't any kinks I would hope to work out on a brick like that. THanks for the input! 23 days to go! |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas 2015 Yups longest brick for an IM is something like 100 mile bike 6-8 mile run (depending on your run speed). You can stretch the bike to 110 or 114, but not the run. Usually you have a long run the next day anyway. Adding the swim to the brick makes no sense to me at all. |
