Extreme Veteran 514 Perkasie, PA | Subject: RE: August - 2nd Annual Boy's vs Girls Swim / Run Challenge !! Clearly NickinNC has no life -- so you girls who juggle 50 things (beautifully) at once -- make your workouts one of them today! I'm checking on you -- I see you girls getting out there early in the morning to run before the heat -- swimming at night when the kids are finished dinner -- GO GET IT GIRL!!! Seriously though, this challenge has been a great motivator for me. I chose distances that, while small to some of the insanely dedicated ;-), were a stretch for me. It has been good to be pushed this way. I hope it has been for you too. Two and a half weeks left -- let's burn it up! |

Member 33 | Subject: RE: August - 2nd Annual Boy's vs Girls Swim / Run Challenge !! Had a fabulous swim in the pool this morning 1050 yards (my longest swim ever). I'm getting misty eyed just thinking about it, because back in May I couldn't even swim one length of the pool. I'm 28% to my goal for August on the swim. Last night, I ran an extra mile and 1/2 after my karate class and thought about Men in speedos the whole time : ) I'm 38% to my goal for the run. |

Regular 97 Grosse Pointe, Michigan | Subject: RE: August - 2nd Annual Boy's vs Girls Swim / Run Challenge !! I agree, this challenge has been great for me. I'm at a frustrating hump suddenly as I have caught my daughter's bad cold and now am enduring a painful cough. I went for my swim practice last night, but am thankful to get in what I did before completely shutting down. (I had planned about 3500 and only got in 1850...) I'm going to make sure to take my vitamins and I hope to get some rest so I can have a quick recovery. Don't count me out on the pool yet girls, I'll make a big push hopefully sooner than later! |

Cycling Guru 15134 Fulton, MD | Subject: RE: August - 2nd Annual Boy's vs Girls Swim / Run Challenge !! Had a crappy swim this morning, and had no swim on Monday because I moved my medium-long run from Sunday to Monday. The main pool I go to is having their shutdown week this week for yearly maint. so I have to use one of the other indoor ones in my gym plan. I don't know what it was, but the pool I used today seemed "slow" if you know what I mean ...... But the bottom line still is ...... I'm at 17,550 yards so far out of 30k, so I'm over halfway at the halfway mark of the month. And after my lunchtime "recovery" run today I'll be halfway with my running mileage as well!! So girls .......... pick out some nice looking suits, because we are kicking your butts!!! |

Extreme Veteran 832 Podunk County, MN | Subject: RE: August - 2nd Annual Boy's vs Girls Swim / Run Challenge !! Yeah, Christine, I look better at 36 than I've looked in 10 years (done childbearing, yahoo, hooray), so I'm not too worried about the physique I can put up if we get caught out. I've done it once already... but like I said at the beginning, I'm not gonna let that happen. So girls, if you're behind on your numbers, get it in gear because this is deadly personal. Both Kristen (Enders Shadow) and I have done this once before, and we're not doing it again. I've been sensing a bit of numbers sandbagging on the guys' side (although some of you are putting up impressive numbers), while the girls seem to be consistently upping theirs if they underestimated to begin with. So if it seems we girls have been quiet, it's because we're getting things done - lots of things, like getting kids ready for school, running races, and doing the daily do of life. I have no doubts that we will pull through in the end. We are consummate multitaskers who take children along for runs, swim on lunch hours, and make 30 hours fit into a 24 hour day. Men, you have been warned. |

NickInNC - 2007-08-15 5:46 AM TriAya, the only men I know are the old ones, you know, the ones who where their jockstrap over their underwear. Do ya really want to see them in their speedo's? Oh, Nick ... you shouldn't talk about your teammates that way. And now for some really down-n-dirty smacktalk (cover your eyes if you need to): GIRLS, just remember that boys always blow their wad early. As for us, let's do what ladies do best: smooth, steady, and strong into the finish. The boys will ALWAYS be left wanting. [Sorry for the heterosexist slant, but even if you're not ... all the more so those poor boys are left wanting ]. |

Please increase my distance from 50 km to 51.5 km Thanks. I will update my logs accordingly. Ocean speed circuit: 500yd out-n-back, 150yd sand dash. Repeat 3x. You really shouldn't feel sorry for guys when they're doing as well as they can... I can't be that mean and just leave that there. It's great that they're out there doing the race, so props for that. It can be really hard to pass them when they're doing the breast stroke with great giant frog kicks. ooof. |

I sure see that their is a lot of heat here! i'm out of town till this weekend spending family time with wife. She's graduating from flight school this Thursday. Hoooah!! Spent delayed on airports yesterdday, finally made it there, and had great time walking around Lake Michigan / town. (No I will not count that mileage. Only running for me) She's out to work this afternoon, so I'm finally getting a chance to work out a little bit. This week will be short, so I'm kicking for the next two weeks on mileage. And no, I'm not sandbagging, since this month is the most running and swimming i have ever done since I was in college. I wish I had time to swim like back in NCAA College days, but not now. Great job to everyone, and keep it up. Gentlemen's. let's stay focuse and knock it out over the next three weeks. Cheers!! |

Who just got called out?? Fess up! ~B That's me, loud and proud. Thou shalt not mess with the injured newbie's calculations (yes, I'm pulling the injured newbie card!) If I have my running shoes on, or it's part of a warmup or cooldown, I'm counting it. 1. Newbie knows how to read the rules, which did not specify speed at which runs had to be accomplished, minimum distance to be accomplished in a run, or that any walking had to be singled out--either on its own or part of a run/walk ratio. 2. I do a lot of walking and swimming as part of my work, and I have not counted one yard of either towards the challenge. 3. If I'd really wanted to sandbag (hmmm ... why are the men racking 'em up so fast?), I would have claimed work-walking miles only on the running, and I sure as hell wouldn't have the top yardage on swimming for the women (and among the top for the men). If you check my logs before the challenge (and during part of it), you will note exclusive water running except for long runs. Shame on you for making fun of a handicapped person. You poor, poor boys. Starting to get so nervous you gotta pick on the gimp newbie. Edited by TriAya 2007-08-15 2:57 PM |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: August - 2nd Annual Boy's vs Girls Swim / Run Challenge !! mosc57 - 2007-08-15 1:15 PM So If I get up from my desk and walk briskly to the bathroom, Should I log it? seems like a bit of a stretch. I thought this was a swim/run challenge. i.e. with running sneakers on Oh heck no (IMO). Although if you can mapmyrun it, have your runnies on, and you'd planned it as part of your miles, I guess that's your prerogative. I specified that if I have my running shoes on or it's part of a mixed workout or warmup/cooldown, I am counting it (as I had planned to when I stated my miles, which are very low due to an injury. Although--really--is 50 miles that low?). I also noted that I don't count anything at work--even work that involves a lot of running, walking, or swimming yardage (as my work happens to do). Besides, I can make coffee in my own house or get it at work. I often run, or walk like a demon (between 13-15 min/mi, no joke) to do errands for the very purpose of moving more or getting runs in. In all seriousness for a moment ... this challenge goes on the honor system both for declaring totals and logging them. My intent, when I declared my miles, was to include any purposeful running or walking done. For that reason, I didn't declare any distance that I would otherwise have to do anyway--e.g., walking to the bathroom, walking in a mall, running to catch a bus, work miles, etc. In the interest of playing fair, if there's a pretty good consensus on both teams that I ought to forfeit a (fast!) walking mile because I chose to put my shoes on and buy coffee in the middle of it instead of just tossing some grounds in the perker at home, I'm willing to do it.
