I put no more stock in this forecast than I do horoscopes or tea leaves, but a guy can dream...

Intermittent Clouds
Times of clouds and sun
Low: 53 °F
High: 74 °F

Last year it was damn cold in the AM. Waiting for the swim start was freezing. Couldn't wait to get in the water. It turned into a beautiful sunny day. Use sun block!

On that note, I am off to do my first "taper" period workout:  A nice 2-mile lake swim! Cool

Maybe I will ask the guys going out there with me to help me get ready for LP, by swimming over me, or whacking me with oars, like in that Clif Bar commercial. Laughing

Just have Jeff punch you in the head every 100 yards or so.

That was my plan!! Unfortunately, Jeff has "lost" his wetsuit.  I hope he finds it by next Saturday, or its gonna be a rough morning in Narragansett.

You had me at 74 .

Yeah, I'm not going to look at the weather forecast too much. I don't want to stress over nothing as we all know how unsteady the weather is up there. You can have beautiful and sunny and cloudy and storming each like 8 times a day.

Missbethy and I have been friends for years and live and work close to each other. To the best of my knowledge, DGillen and I are unrelated. Sorry for the confusion....

OK I have written a IMLP bike 'Manifesto' (no I am not the unabomber)

Come by my log to check it out and agree or critique. It's just my plan of attack.

I like it and I intend to follow a similar plan!

Also, I'm with you re: Stadler. I'd love sneak a peak and maybe even get an autograph! Why not

Thanks for the manifesto. This is my first IM and other than Coach Troy's tour of the course, I will not see this course it until I drive it on Thursday (Is there a course driving party??), so any advice on how to manage this ride is welcome. Like the run, an even or dare we say negative split on the ride would be unreal! I would rather feel like I can conquer the world at mile 85 and save it for the run/walk/crawl than bonk at 45 when I am climbing back up to transition on the first loop. That said, I have a sneaking suspicion I am going to take it "easy" on loop 1, then realize that it takes everything I have to maintain that "easy" on loop 2, which is OK.

Just dawned on me that next Wednesday I am getting on a plane... W-O-W!!!!!!

OK, I've been lurking on this thread for a while, but now that Lauren has called me out, I'm going to start posting more often and confusing everyone!

Believe me, Steve (sgillen) and I were unclear for a while too.  The first time I saw a post from sgillen I thought my wife (Sarah) had a finally got an account on BT and had started posting! I quickly checked out the profile and found out it was Steve, not Sarah.  We PM'd back and forth a few times and determined we're not related.

Anyway, I hope to meet Steve and everyone else in 2 weeks, and yes, Lauren, it was this Gillen that you met at Timberman last year!

haha. Good to hear from you. The worst is when I get inspires from one of you and there's no avatar to go along with it .

And Sgillen, you need to find me at the lake one day before the race. I think you were good luck last year.

Does anyone else find that taper, nerves, whatever makes you really emotional? Yesterday, after having lunch with a friend, I almost cried when leaving. I did shed some tears while watching a rerun of the Fresh Prince the other day. Seriously. WTH? And this AM during a conference call, someone mentioned she got engaged over the weekend and my eyes started tearing up! I barely know that person too! I'm never all sappy and emotional. This is gonna be a long two weeks .

The fresh prince? Great show.

I think tapering can throw you off both physically and emotionally. If the Fresh Prince is getting you, do not read people's IM reports.

Go watch WALL-E and have a good cry!

I have zero nerves at this point.  I might as the day gets closer, but even at FL last year I was uncannily calm all the way up to the start.

My "drastic" reduction in hours still has me doing an 11 hour week with double sessions Tues-Thurs. I'm concentrating on some good, short, quality workouts rather than drive myself nuts.

Well, everytime Jazzy Jeff gets thrown out of the house, it IS very emotional.

Actually, I had a pre-race dream about LP and I'm only volunteering! Can't imagine how it's gonna be next year.

BTW, it was a good dream - how I had to take it really easy on the first loop of the bike course, and that made it so much easier to tolerate. I'll have to remember that thought.

What's you volunteer post, runnerx? I'm co-captain of Volunteer Food and Fun tent in the oval......still seeking volunteers if anyone is interested.....and there's a priority registration line for IM 2009 for those volunteers who work 4 or more hours........though obviously if you are racing this year, that's not an option for you folks. Cool
