The course has two long slow hills and the wind was totally nuts. I was literally leaning into it on an uphill and pumping my arms to keep making progress. This is my longest run this year and it was great to be able to do this course again. I have run it before, but it has been at least 5 years and perhaps longer. Hope everyone is having a great weekend. I'm hoping to get out tomorrow for a bike ride. The weather dudes say there will be more gentle breezes to help keep me cool. How's the new bike? |

'Sides, I can go at lunch and after work. I plan to lift weights at lunch and then jog a tiny bit after work. Tomorrow or Sunday I am going for a bike ride, baby! I can't wait. I'll also probably swim tomorrow morning. Then Sunday maybe I'll take a long walk without jogging.Uh oh, Julie would be mad at us for being so far down on the page. Is everyone hiding today? I'm heading to the pool here shortly (I'm off from work!). What does everyone have going today? susie susie susie!!! where are you FINDING these people?!? your soon to be X sounds like superjerk, and now roomie is being a baby about you getting UP FIRST?!? ok listen sis--it's time to make a clean get-away. you need your own place to be your own woman, you need to be where NO one gets to tell susie what to do except susie. there are lots of places you can find to live on your own, maybe not a huge fancy 2 bedroom, but hey, even a teeny studio apartment, if you're on your own, it's WORTH it!! just my 2 cents. I wish! But for now, there is NO way I can afford my own place without quickly getting myself buried in credit card debt. I'd rather live pretty awfully for a while and come out of this financially OK, if I can ... I am already going to owe anywhere from $20,000-$40,000 more on the house than it's worth when this is all done. BUT, the good news is that I had a talk with roomie, and she said she just didn't understand why I was getting up at 6 when I go to work an hour later than her. She says it's no problem. SOOOOO, I will see what lawyer says about having STBX take on some more of the bills. Then I can know better how much money I'll have, if I can sign lease, etc. I don't know if we will stay living together, but just two more days and I can get some legal insight. Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Just got back from an aborted run. My calves were so tight and I just couldn't stretch them out! I took a long bike ride yesterday. Does anyone know if biking could cause this? I know you use different muscles for biking and running, and I'm just wondering if the long ride could do this. Anyway, I'll try my long run again tomorrow (and I'll take a day off from biking today!). |

Anyway, I'll try my long run again tomorrow (and I'll take a day off from biking today!). I have definitely noticed my calves feel tight after biking -- I think they are used more in biking than people realized. I could go on and on forever about this Trigger Point stuff, but you might want to look into it... I wish I had bought it months ago. Interestingly, my mother told me the other day that she had a painful heel spur, so I had to educate her on plantar fasciitis. I went over there last night and pushed on the spot on her calf, about 4-5 inches below the knee and slightly toward the center, and sure enough I found the sore spot! That is really interesting to me. I rubbed it for just a couple of minutes, and she said her pain was gone. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I just got back from a 1,500 yard swim! I am so proud of myself!!! I think it's finally clicking. I really concentrate on keeping my chin to my shoulder when rotating to breathe. I also try to rotate my shoulders under water enough to nearly touch my chin. (is that too much?) It is just SO SUPER COOL to be able to swim 500 yards continuously and feel like you could keep going. I'm going to go out for a bike ride in a little bit. Roomie's away for the weekend again, so I have the place all to myself. I'm going to try taking the ride a lot slower to see if I can go farther than last week. I was pretty disappointed. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Also, I checked my weight this morning at the gym's scale, and it was 191. (never been below 190). I never weighed on that scale before, so I'm not quite sure how it compares with other scales or if it's accurate. But that was still pretty cool... But virtually all my clothes are enormous on me. Last night I was wearing pajamas that just two months ago were so tight in the legs I hated to wear them. And they were really big on me. And today I'm wearing Gap jeans that one of my ex-boyfriend's mothers gave to me "because I'm a big girl" and I was always so embarrassed that I couldn't wear them. And right now I'm not only wearing them, but they are comfortable. They pretty much fit perfectly. And I find myself picking up my pajamas, and asking myself, "did these get bigger?" It's just so surreal sometimes! But it's also soooooooooo much easier without all this junk food in the house and without someone guilting me to restaurants all the time. Well, and having all the time to work out that I want is also helping. All I can say is when I appear in divorce court, I'm gonna be darn hot. ![]() So after my bike ride, I'm going to go to some consignment shops to see if I can pick up some pants that fit. I want to lose more weight, so I don't want to spend a lot of money on clothes if I can help it. sorry for writing so much! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm back from my bike ride - it was awesome. No disappointments this time. I went for an hour and 50 minutes, but not sure precisely how far becuase my stupid Polar front wheel sensor wasn't working. The first 90 minutes I was strong and then I got a little tired, so I think this was an OK distance ride. And my bike handling skills weren't too shabby, because I was sprinting to make a traffic light in the big ring, and it suddenly changed, and I managed to stop, get in the little ring and clip out without falling or getting run over. I still get killed every time there's a slight incline, but I know that'll get better in time. Tomorrow I'm going to take a really easy day - perhaps just a walk and I'll probably try to throw pilates in there. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() No luck at the consignment shop, though. The larger size pants obviously get bought up very quickly. So I might check out a couple stores tonight because I saw last week they were having very good deals. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I don't have any soreness or fatigue in my shoulders or legs this morning, so that's definitely kewl. I just got back from the laundromat, and I'm going to head to a park here shortly to just do a walk. No HR monitor, no timer, just me taking a stroll (hopefully without rain). Someone lent my roomie "Going Long" about Ironman training, and it's all so complicated. Prep, base, build, peak, BT workouts, AR workouts, LT testing, who can keep this stuff straight? I also bought the Triathlete Magazine's training guide. I know I'm going to have to sit down soon and map out an Oly training plan, but it's definitely tough for me to grasp it. (And I'm not running yet anyway.) I'll have to take a look at BT's plans again. But I think I would prefer to have it mapped out on a good old-fashioned written calendar. How do you all manage your training plans? |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey Gang! I'm back! It felt so weird to not get in the workouts or log in to BT to chat but I have made it through the big bad week and it's just one more week of cruising until two weeks off for March break. I am pretty excited- we are going skiing for 2 days and then I am off to have a visit with my parents in Toronto for a few days. Mom and Dad are pretty committed to going to the gym so I know that I can probably still jump in the pool and my sister will also be up from DC so there will definitely be some running. Had a good little spin on the trainer yesterday. I listened for music for the first hour, then got bored and played games on my ipod for the second hour. Swim was great too- I am on my last week of 0-1650 and I am absolutely shocking myself with being able to link together the lengths. Nicole and Julie, I believe you were the ones that put me onto the program- so please accept my sincere thanks. It has been a huge boost of confidence for me and my swimming. I am looking forward to doing the straight 1650 on Thursday. Great run this morning with Linkin on the trails. With lots of snow still on the trails, it was a bit of an ankle workout but it was fun to explore and I think he had fun too- he is snoring away on the ottoman. |

Nicole- glad to hear that the ankle is feeling better- do you have access to a wobble board? How is that wrist doing these days? Susie- thanks for all your posts- while it may not always feel like it- it sure sounds like you are winning way more than you are losing these days (well, except for the losing of pounds and inches! Alyssa- how are those new shoes treating you? Dan- wind and hills- my two biggest nemesis- way to conquer!!!! Hope spring is coming your way soon! I know that I am keen for our snow to melt! Julie, Isabelle- hope you gals can get back out there soon! Julie- hope the race weekend was fantastic! Can't wait to hear all about it! Enjoy the rest of your weekend, gang! |

How is that wrist doing these days? Enjoy the rest of your weekend, gang! I own a wobble board. I use it to stretch my ankles before and after my runs. I think I need to do some stuff to strengthen my ankles but I hadn't considered that the wobble board might be useful for this. My wrist has improved since the cortisone shot (the swelling seems to be gone) but I still get times or days where it aches.

My wrist has improved since the cortisone shot (the swelling seems to be gone) but I still get times or days where it aches. What have you been up to this weekend? Yep, absolutely the wobble board is a great tool for stretching but can be used for strengthening too. It's ultimately about improving your proprioception- your ability for your body to recognize its movements and make corrections where needed- ie when the ankle is turning over. Have a look at: http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/cybertherapist/front/ankle/wobble_board.htm for info and some exercises. Also great for core exercises to do push ups while holding onto the board or lunges stepping onto the board. Also great for strenghtening would be some exer-tubing (or an old tire- guessing you have some of these around). Tie one end to something fixed and then put the other end around your foot while seated on the floor. Pull your toes toward you and repeat. You can then also rotate yourself around to then go through the lateral movements. Hope that makes sense. Glad to hear that there are some improvements with the wrist. Did you ever find out what caused the problem to begin with? After a busy week, it has been awesome to get outside and get my body moving this weekend. Last 5 days before a two week break...so let the countdown begin! |

What have you been up to this weekend? what kind of wobble board? where'd you get it? I used something sorta like this in physical therapy for my PF, but the same version was over $400. (I looked.) It really helped me! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well, I think the deal's just been sealed for me moving out. I have to go in to work early tomorrow, and my roomie made a big deal again about me having to get up earlier than she does. (Obviously I have to get up before her so I can use the bathroom. GRR!) If it were ME alone, I would get up at 5 a.m. so I could still go swimming before having to be to work early. But I know there's no way that would fly. I simply cannot have her getting on my case about something I have no choice over (work). I'm talking with what seems like a nice woman my age about renting a room in her house, so hopefully that will go well and I can move in there sometime soon. She also went through a divorce and is also trying to lose weight, so it actually would probably be a really good friendship for me. Um, any suggestions about gently breaking the news to roomie? I was *hoping* that we'd be pretty good training buddies, but now I am not so sure. ![]() It will be kind of a delicate balance, especially if she starts asking why I'm moving out. Unless she turns out to be happy, which would be the best outcome. |

What have you been up to this weekend? I've got a Fitter First with adjustable angle. Offhand, I don't remember if it's a 16" or 20" but I can measure it tonight. I usually use it at the steepest angle. I've had mine for a maybe a few years now so I don't remember where I got it. |

Tell her about when you need to be at work and tell her about how important it is for you to do your training before work. Talk about the issue of having to be up before her and how this seems to be developing into a major problem. Her response to this will pretty much tell you everything you need to know about if you can work it out. Also, be sure to tell her that you hope that you can continue to train together.
