I need some help figuring out my hydration during the run. A ten mile run/walk today turned really bad starting at mile six. I ran out of water with three miles to go and could not run at all without feeling that I was going to pass out or vomit. A very bad headache hit at mile six.
I know hydration is individual and varies depending on a lot of factors but I am curious as to how many ounces of water/sports drink you consume during each hour of a long run.  Seven miles since my run/walk started and I have not the slightest need to pee. That has got to be dehydration.
On a positive note, my achilles and calf held out even if the tape on my foot/leg didn't.

Being in a very hot and dry climate, we deal with hydration a lot. I usually drink 1+ water bottles an hour while riding or running. I usually do 2 bottles of water to one bottle of HEED. I haven't nailed my nutrition on distance rides or runs yet but I've got my hydration down. I would say 20 - 24 oz of water an hour to answer your question.

I'm sure checking BT the morning of the race won't happen for everyone, but good luck to everyone again.

Has anyone compiled a list of all the bib numbers for IMLP?

For a 10 miler (for me ~ 90 - 95 minutes) I would carry a 10 oz fuel belt bottle with gatorade.  But, before most of my workouts I have probably drank 24 - 30 oz of water.  For my longer runs I have struggled, but it is mostly because I really don't like wearing the belt so I try and get by with just adding a gel or 2 to the 10 oz which isnt working.

Today I am going to carry 20 oz on the belt of Infinit.  I have only just started using this product so we will see if it will work or not, but the short bike ride I used it on the other night worked out good.  I will let you know in a couple of hours!

Ken,
I felt the same way, figured if these guys are going doing an Ironman today I should put in a longer ride as well.  Just got back from 80 miles, felt pretty good, still feeling a little drained from last Sunday.

Fred is off the bike in 5:22:30 (20.84 mph avg). This is a great speed average.

Josh is also off the bike in 5:28:29 (20.46 mph avg). Another great speed and just below Fred.

Dylan should be getting off the bike shortly.

Keep it up Sara.

My bottles were only 8 oz vs the 10 I thought they were, but I had as good a long run as I have had in a while.  I think having better nutrition helped a lot, but it was also cooler than the last couple too.  I think 16 oz was the minimum for this time (it took me 2:08).  Next time I will have at least 3 bottles for this distance, more for longer.  While I am not ready to offer a full endorsement for Infinit after only a couple of workouts, I am impressed.

All four are on the run with a ton of time in the bank; looks like Fred and Josh will have some very impressive times.  I don't see Dylan or Sara having any trouble finishing either.  The tracker hasn't been updating so I'm not sure exactly where they are.

Glad to hear that you had a good run. I road the Boulder 70.3 course today. I went through at least 60+oz of fluid(everything I had on my bike) and about 500 calories. When I got off the bike I could tell I was not doing well again. Grabbed my bike, a banana and some water and sat under a tree. It took me a good 20+ minutes to get to a place where I was not feeling nausious when standing. I ate some pretzels and poured some water over my head.  I think I really overheat. Certainly I could have used more fluids and am wondering about calories. Maybe I need to try something like Infinate. Does it last in heat?  Any additional thoughts would be welcome.
My worry is that if I feel like that after the bike on race day, I am not going to make it on the run. or I am going to have a 30+ minute T2. The run course has no shade it is very hot.
I am at a loss at this point.

Tip of the day. When you open the trunk of your car which has a bike rack on it, make sure you get out of the rack's way before you close the trunk. My Shoulder will be reminding me of this for a few days Smile

I dont know if Infinite is right for you (or me at this point)! I would suggest that you continue to work on heat acclimation, try different nutrition strategies (because we are all different) and maintain a positive attituded!
