Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I ran this morning and the ankle felt OK. My legs, on the other hand, didn't seem to have much pep in them. I took it all nice and easy. I'll be doing some extra icing of my ankle throughout the day for good measure. So, how long should I wait before starting ankle strengthening exercises? |

So, how long should I wait before starting ankle strengthening exercises? I think if you can do it without pain, you could start right away - just take it easy at first. If you can't do it within pain, then wait. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi guys! Hope you all had a good weekend. Mine felt like it was much too short, even though it was three days long. Saturday and Sunday felt like summer was upon us! It was so humid -- nearly 100% -- and it was already in the 70s when I got up. That made running difficult for me. It takes awhile for me to get acclimated to that change. The good news is that it looks like our temps are going back down again, at least for the nighttime hours. Hopefully we'll all get a good week of training in! I ran this morning and have a swim planned for this afternoon. What about you???? |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() ScotInMinnesota - 2009-03-16 2:31 PM Hi everyone. We got a puppy on Sunday. It's a lab/border collie mix. I'm hoping for a running partner next year. Nicole, I've found that swimming with flippers occasionally helps me strengthen my ankles. She's awful cute, Scot, but lock up the furniture and socks & shoes cuz she looks like a chewer to me! She'll be a great running buddy, that's a great mix for needing a job and having a good work ethic. So, I'm back in action - I was in Reno at a convention last week and the internet was too expensive - $15/15 minutes! So, I sat off-line all week. Sorry I didn't get you all a heads up, but I thought I'd be able to at least check in a couple of times. I ran my half mary yesterday in 2:24 (that's 2 hours, 24 minutes, of course!). That's a couple of minutes faster than last year, but I worked a lot harder than that, I thought. Oh well, it's faster, right? I'm just doing a long-ish bike commute today and I'll swim tomorrow, then back in the sneakers on Wednesday. My knees should have been iced, but the owner was slacking! So they're a little sore today, but better than last night. Maybe I'll get around to icing them tonight while watching Medium. Just wanted to check in - I'm glad to hear your lawyer visit went well, Susie. You were definitely in the front of the line for good stuff this week! Hope you all have a good night - I'll visit logs now and get some inspires out. I'm way behind ... Trish |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Things are getting more hostile on the roommate front, but what can you do? She's pretty upset I won't get a 2-bedroom apartment with her in this complex, but I said I just can't sign a year-to-year lease right now. (An additional factor is that this apartment is really horrible and overpriced.) She says she can't afford a 2BR for a couple of months on her own if I have to move out early. I told her that I did not want to put her in a bind like that, and then she tells me that she is screwed because she can't afford this 1BR apartment on her own. It's kinda sucky having everyone be mad at you, but doing nice things for others -- without looking out for myself -- is how I got in this mess in the first place. |

Went out for a run late this morning after the rain stopped. The course has two long slow hills and the wind was totally nuts. I was literally leaning into it on an uphill and pumping my arms to keep making progress. This is my longest run this year and it was great to be able to do this course again. I have run it before, but it has been at least 5 years and perhaps longer. Hope everyone is having a great weekend. I'm hoping to get out tomorrow for a bike ride. The weather dudes say there will be more gentle breezes to help keep me cool. How's the new bike? Sorry for the slow reply. The new bike is great. I feel a little better on it each time I ride. On Monday I rode a different course and hit some flat sections that allowed me to get a taste of what the bike can do. I can't wait for spring. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() OK, now some good news everyone! I wanted to post last night but didn't have the chance. The swimming lessons are going REALLY well!!! The instructor (and her friend) last night pointed out that I really kick with my legs very far apart, creating drag. I tried to cut that down, and I could feel a difference right away. If I can find my therapy band, I'm going to tie my legs up to swim. Ha ha ha. She also videotaped us with her cell phone and is going to e-mail them to us. Roomie said she got hers, but not mine yet? I don't want everyone on BT seeing my huge behind, though. (Frankly, I'm glad *I* don't have to look at it. Ha ha ha!) Also this morning I had NO pain in my foot. So that's going really well as well. I really cannot stop raving about triggers points and the self-treatment of pain. This stuff is amazing. |

How cute!!! What is her name? Or his name? Guess you called it an it Her name is Macy and she's 10 weeks old. She's slowly adjusting to our house. We've never had a dog before, so there are a lot of google searches on how to train a puppy. We're learning. |

It's great to here that the swimming is going good. I don't know if a two bedroom with the current roommate would be enough room. If she's getting upset about you getting up earlier than her, she probably needs her own place. Scot |

Cute pup Scot. She looks smart. I saw a recent article listing the top 10 dog breeds by intelligence. Border collie was # 1 and lab was in the list too. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() i haven't been on here in so long guys! i'm so sorry! dh has had a bunch of days off lately, and we had our anniversary, etc. there was just a lot that kept me away from the computer. AND i just realized today that i'm not getting update emails anymore! i don't know why-i would check my email every now and then, not see any updates, and just assumed you guys were having a busy weekend. (i never claimed to be all that smart) anyway, i'm not caught up, don't know what's going on, i'll go back and read up. i THOUGHT spring was coming. BUT i was mistaken. i haven't been able to run at all lately, because besides being ridiculously sick, a couple days ago we got a foot of snow. oh i am so ready for winter to end!! dh bought me a triathlete magazine yesterday and i started LONGING for the season to get going. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() ok, i think i'm caught up! scott--way way cute puppy!! i don't know much about dog training, but i know that when we had a puppy (before it got to be too much) we kennel trained her, and i would absolutely reccomend that. we got her at 7 weeks old, and i think she only peed or pooped in the house twice!! susie-you're roomie is ticking me off!! time to move on sweetie! i'm sure that at least PART of her was trying to be helpful when she offered you a place to stay~but it's starting to sound more like she was in $$ trouble, and was using YOU to try to save herself~NOT a good friend sort of thing to do imho. nicole-glad you've finally had a couple of days off woman! you're like a TRAIN!! be careful on that ankle though!! CRAP i forgot to take notes!! whoever that was that did the half mary~awesome time, and improvement!! any improvement, even if it's just a couple of minutes is something to celebrate. TRISH TRISH TRISH!!! i'm so sorry!! i was pretty sure it was YOU that had raced, but i wasn't positive. now my limited powers of recall are tapped Edited by lyssa-gator 2009-03-17 11:48 AM |
