Offthegrid - 2009-03-13 6:50 AM oh, and I'm also going to probably see "Twilight" at a second-run theater here tonight. I wanted to see it after I read the book, but missed it the first time around.

oooooooooooh  I want to see it too! let me know what you think! I just finished the third book and still have the 4th and the one where you see it thru Edwards eyes...that never made it to print....then I will have to find a new series to read..suggestions???

Offthegrid - 2009-03-16 6:20 AM Well, I think the deal's just been sealed for me moving out. I have to go in to work early tomorrow, and my roomie made a big deal again about me having to get up earlier than she does. (Obviously I have to get up before her so I can use the bathroom. GRR!) If it were ME alone, I would get up at 5 a.m. so I could still go swimming before having to be to work early. But I know there's no way that would fly. I simply cannot have her getting on my case about something I have no choice over (work). I'm talking with what seems like a nice woman my age about renting a room in her house, so hopefully that will go well and I can move in there sometime soon. She also went through a divorce and is also trying to lose weight, so it actually would probably be a really good friendship for me. Um, any suggestions about gently breaking the news to roomie? I was *hoping* that we'd be pretty good training buddies, but now I am not so sure. She is a super awesome cyclist, so I could really use her help. It will be kind of a delicate balance, especially if she starts asking why I'm moving out. Unless she turns out to be happy, which would be the best outcome.

tell her that you want to remain friends and think it best if you move out to remain friends...say that you do not want to wake her or cause any further disruptions and have found a good deal on a room in a house....she should be thrilled for you! and if not....sorry to say..GOOD RIDDANCE! hope it works out for you with the room...sounds IDEAL! hang tough girl~!

Hey Gang! I'm back! It felt so weird to not get in the workouts or log in to BT to chat but I have made it through the big bad week and it's just one more week of cruising until two weeks off for March break. I am pretty excited- we are going skiing for 2 days and then I am off to have a visit with my parents in Toronto for a few days. Mom and Dad are pretty committed to going to the gym so I know that I can probably still jump in the pool and my sister will also be up from DC so there will definitely be some running.

Had a good little spin on the trainer yesterday. I listened for music for the first hour, then got bored and played games on my ipod for the second hour. I know- not ideal but I swear that my legs were still spinning at 80-95 rpm the whole time! Looking forward to the snow melting and then of course they will need to get the gravel cleaned off the road before the road bike goes outside. I may try to get out on the mountain bike just on some of the pathways before then.

Swim was great too- I am on my last week of 0-1650 and I am absolutely shocking myself with being able to link together the lengths. Nicole and Julie, I believe you were the ones that put me onto the program- so please accept my sincere thanks. It has been a huge boost of confidence for me and my swimming. I am looking forward to doing the straight 1650 on Thursday.

Great run this morning with Linkin on the trails. With lots of snow still on the trails, it was a bit of an ankle workout but it was fun to explore and I think he had fun too- he is snoring away on the ottoman.

always good to have you back! sounds like good times! glad Linkin is getting his runs, too! could he train Kalli so that she can run with me!? she is soo outta control...here there everywhere type of sniffy dog! can Linkin help?

Hi everyone. We got a puppy on Sunday. It's a lab/border collie mix. I'm hoping for a running partner next year.

Nicole, I've found that swimming with flippers occasionally helps me strengthen my ankles.

second on the crate training ... especially because it's part Lab. If you doubt me on whether it's a good idea to crate train a puppy from the get-go, go read "Marley & Me."

I would never doubt you.:-) I do need to pick up that book. I just went home at lunch to let her out and she's ripped up the a towel and a doggy cushion that we had in her crate. Her little teeth are sharp.

Offthegrid - 2009-03-16 3:55 PM BTW, if anyone here hasn't been to the main triathlon talk forum today, there is seriously the funniest. thread. ever. on there about going to the bathroom on the bike.

That is hilarious! The people outside my office are probably wondering what I'm laughing about.

Here's a link to the forum. http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=150441&posts=47&start=1

Scot

that is a riot! surely she was kidding! noone would truly take a poo when riding on thier bikes right???? guess it would make for a great strategy of keeping your competitors back during racing...but during a group ride...not a way to make new friends and sometimes as you see from the thread...keep old ones, too! haha

She's awful cute, Scot, but lock up the furniture and socks & shoes cuz she looks like a chewer to me! She'll be a great running buddy, that's a great mix for needing a job and having a good work ethic. So, I'm back in action - I was in Reno at a convention last week and the internet was too expensive - $15/15 minutes! So, I sat off-line all week. Sorry I didn't get you all a heads up, but I thought I'd be able to at least check in a couple of times. I ran my half mary yesterday in 2:24 (that's 2 hours, 24 minutes, of course!). That's a couple of minutes faster than last year, but I worked a lot harder than that, I thought. Oh well, it's faster, right? I'm just doing a long-ish bike commute today and I'll swim tomorrow, then back in the sneakers on Wednesday. My knees should have been iced, but the owner was slacking! So they're a little sore today, but better than last night. Maybe I'll get around to icing them tonight while watching Medium. Just wanted to check in - I'm glad to hear your lawyer visit went well, Susie. You were definitely in the front of the line for good stuff this week! Hope you all have a good night - I'll visit logs now and get some inspires out. I'm way behind ... Trish

that is expensive for internet!? most hotels give you free wifi! how RUDE!  but thanks for the update....

great job on your hm! any improvements are great! believe you me! so congrats girl! KIU!

Offthegrid - 2009-03-16 6:56 PM Things are getting more hostile on the roommate front, but what can you do? She's pretty upset I won't get a 2-bedroom apartment with her in this complex, but I said I just can't sign a year-to-year lease right now. (An additional factor is that this apartment is really horrible and overpriced.) She says she can't afford a 2BR for a couple of months on her own if I have to move out early. I told her that I did not want to put her in a bind like that, and then she tells me that she is screwed because she can't afford this 1BR apartment on her own. It's kinda sucky having everyone be mad at you, but doing nice things for others -- without looking out for myself -- is how I got in this mess in the first place.

maybe she should have thought of that before she lashed out at you on the mornings you were up before her! just a sign of whats to come if you move in with her! sounds like a time bomb...just waiting to go POP! sorry that she is being like this on top of all the other crud you are going thru! LIFE JUST ISNT FAIR SOMETIMES! hang in there! I will be your long distance cycling buddy! HUGS SUSIE! you can and will get thru this!

Just checking in.  Went out for a run late this morning after the rain stopped.  The course has two long slow hills and the wind was totally nuts.  I was literally leaning into it on an uphill and pumping my arms to keep making progress.   This is my longest run this year and it was great to be able to do this course again.  I have run it before, but it has been at least 5 years and perhaps longer.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.   I'm hoping to get out tomorrow for a bike ride.  The weather dudes say there will be more gentle breezes to help keep me cool.

How's the new bike?

Sorry for the slow reply.  The new bike is great.  I feel a little better on it each time I ride.  On Monday I rode a different course and hit some flat sections that allowed me to get a taste of what the bike can do.   I can't wait for spring.

SPRING STARTS FRIDAY! hoping that California got the memo! ready for some nice bike riding weather and running weather!

ok - ok swimming too!

If I buy it, the bar tape will be the first thing to go. I'd replace it with solid red.

One of my bikes is tricked out in red , but I've been on a blue kick lately (since pictured it also has a blue saddlebag and a blue and white saddle). I like that this bike brings them both together. BTW, I may have to sell the red bike to appease the "gods" and make this purchase feasible.

If your ankle is feeling pretty good, I would start up right away. Go easy though and build up...I think you indicated that you have already been doing some flexibility stuff-rocking forward and back and side to side. Work on some balance bits too. You might also want to adjust it so it is not quite as steep until the ankles get a bit stronger.

Really neat to see that you have a Fitter product! They are actually based in Calgary. One of the kids is even in my class! (I got a gift card for Christmas- haven't decided what to get yet! )

Susie, time to get out- the current roomie does not seem to have it together. It's one thing if she is doing you a huge favour and letting you stay there free but if rent is being split or she is depending on you then the place is just as much yours as it is hers and she needs to be more flexible. As Julie said, tell her that you value your friendship but unfortunately your schedules just aren't working out. Don't let her guilt you in to staying! It is time for you to do what is right for YOU!

Take good care- <Hugs>

Scott- little Macy is way too cute! Have fun with her! All I can say is that consistency is key and be sure to give her lots of exercise. A lot of misbehaviour comes from dogs that have stored up energy....yep Linkin gets lots of runs and walks because it keeps him nice and tired. Tons of great books out there- also consider looking at puppy classes which are great for socialization and teaching some basics.
