| Expert 961 Illinois _ Chicago area | Subject: RE: McFuzz's Mentor Group 2011 - CLOSED Well gang, here are the results from the race today. Overall time: 2:50:19, Splits: swim 35:00* , bike 1:19:15, run 51:52 Actually came in 3rd in my age group (3/18) ?!?! 99/238 all women, 336/607 overall.  All the really fast people must have been at the other popular race in the area *Swim story: I was hoping for a better swim. I'm very happy with the bike and run given the large break in my training. Here is the story of my swim. I have Crohn's disease and at the moment I am taking quite a few meds including a medication that has rapid heart rate as a side effect. (In retrospect doing this race was probably not one of my better decisions, but when it comes to racing I'm not known for common sense). So the combination of a race situation, open water, full contact swimming, medication issues...... about 300 yards in I can feel my heart racing and suddenly am unable to catch my breath. This causes me to panic (panicking during the swim was once a specialty of mine that I thought I had overcome) thus exacerbating the overall bad effects. I'm in big trouble. Another swimmer comes up to me and says "you're in trouble" and shouts to one of the guards who is standing on a platform in the lake. The guard jumps in and swims over to me. I was able to hang on the floaty for a few minutes and allow my heart rate to drop and gain a normal breathing pattern. I was able to continue with the race, but for a few minutes there I was terrified. And I would also like to comment that I am always, always, always impressed with the great people I've met within the triathlon community. I wish I knew the women who helped me out so I could thank her. Overall, great race, great day. Perfect weather, racing with friends who all went out for breakfast after the race. | |

If I can handle the OWS on Wednesday, I'm signing up for my first Tri. Either the July 4th event at Tradewinds or the next Trilogy on Key Biscayne. I said it and I didn't pee my pants. Off to a great start!
I find if i actually sign up for the event and therefore have some skin in the game, I follow through with the race. BTW, I'm signed up for the Multirace Trilogy 2 international distance, so we could end up at the same race. 2 of my brothers and 1 sister are doing the sprint distance that day too! Ann-Marie It would be fun to see you! Maybe I'll do both! Good Point Mr. McFuzz...it would be good to JUST DO IT ALREADY! ;-) |

I just got the results of the local sprint tri I did, 1:40. : / Thats 7 minutes slower then the first sprint I did last summer. Bummer. However, my chain did fall off 3 times, I never got in a groove in my swim and it was way hillier. Still, of course I'm glad I did it, I know what I have to work on for my next race in August which is a big SheROX race in Philly... |

Should I have my shoe adjusted on the left side so I can get out of the clip? or just pay attention better. Probably both. Tomorrow is pool swim and then I'm going to run afterward...try to do 3+ miles. Then Saturday I'm no supposed to do anything.. Sunday I'm supposed to do a pre-race warm up. Monday is race. |

My HIM is 2 weeks from Sunday and I'm getting a bit nervous about the swim in particular (especially after my recent stellar panic attack) I'm going to do an open water swim in Lake Michigan tomorrow am (BRRRRRRRRR) Don't want to, but I have to. The Racine HIM is in the lake and in past years it has been numbingly cold so I'd just better suck it up and get in a few swims so it's not a complete jolt to the bod. Good thing I have booties and a neoprene cap. But after the swim, this race is all about having fun! It's on my 50th b-day and I just bought a plastic tiara that says "It's my 50th Birthday! and I plan to wear it on the run. My friends and I booked the hotel rooms for an extra day so we can go back, shower and relax, then meet my family for a celebratory dinner.

| Master 1343 Minneapolis, Minnesota | Subject: RE: McFuzz's Mentor Group 2011 - CLOSED Question 30' ride with 4 sets of 30" @ 80%, 20" @ 90%, 10" @ 100%. - OK this means 30 minutes? and 30 second spin ups? Give plenty of rest in between sets. Always in BR (Big Ring). You may drop 1 gear (make harder) as you increase from 80 to 90 and to 100% effort. Then run 15' easy with 4 times 20" strides. - Same question here... 15 minutes running with 20 second striders? Then swim 10' easy with 4 times 20" sprints - This I understand. Go GET 'EM Zimmer! | |

Holy Moly! When I was in Michigan last week (and Chicago) the lake was 65ish degrees! You can't swim in that! Wet suit I suppose. I have no idea what I'm talking about of course, but it just seemed chilly when I waded in a foot or two. Dang. My sister turned 50 on the 24th and got her AARP card already. Have you received yours? THAT would cause me to panic! |

Hope I don't send you back to the floor by suggesting that perhaps you should look at the international distance portion of MiamiMan. It's not too much more than a sprint. At least that's what i keep telling myself as I head towards my first longer race! Ann-Marie |

I was very tired ( but really, I was), was unclear as to when/where the group was going (...could have texted someone) but mainly was just a wuss. I'm going to have to do it sometime. And yes Steph, the water is way too cold. 62. The first time I did Racine HIM the water temp was 56. Now THAT IS F----ING COLD!!! Literally takes your breath away when you first get in. Think I swam half before I put my face in and had numb feet when I got out. Hard to run in the sand when you can't feel your feet. Rode the granny bike to whole foods to do something constructive today. Have a wonderful 4th weekend everyone! |

. I've been thinking about it for awhile and was waiting to see how my first Oly went in 3 weeks, but the registration fee is set to increase at midnight tonight; so I bit the bullet and registered.  I've been very consistent with my training and have no real concerns with the swim or run, but the bike - run combo does have me concerned.  Looks like I will be putting a lot of time in the saddle in the coming weeks/months.
