Rest on Monday and a 46 minute run today including 2 X 1 mile @ about Z4 pace. Gorgeous weather - clear blue sky and 81-82 with low humidity and a slight breeze.

rough week the week, still quite tired and super busy. 8 hour 2 man relay mountain bike race this Saturday. Looks to be a huge race so it will be interesting. Held at Hardwood hills, site of PanAm games mountain bike racing this summer.

Kind of a quiet week on the training front. Last night I ran the Thompson Island Trail Race which is a really fun 4k on an island in Boston Harbor. You take a ferry out to the island and the race loops around the perimeter, so you get a lot of awesome views of the harbor and the city. It's actually a pretty tough course despite the short length. This was my 6th year running it and the field has gotten bigger and more competitive every year. I finished 32/1014 in 14:57 - my second best time for that race so I was pretty happy considering my lack of run volume lately. The event is sponsored by Harpoon Brewery and they have a big bbq with plenty of beer afterwards. Really fun race that I look forward to every year.

Tomorrow I have my last tri of the season so I'm looking to throw caution to the wind and go as hard as I can. From what I can tell it's a fast course so it should be fun. Weather looks good although the water will be chilly.

No point for my race yesterday, it was too short!

sorry to have been scarce. Company has blocked access to BT for some reason...

Anyway, Zwift has been running a cycling challenge in conjunction with the UCI Richmond championships. Lot of cycling this week. I've started doing some of their group rides and races. Lots of fun. Cycled every day this week. Thinking of just watching football today.

Interesting race today. Not sure what happened but I had a complete panic attack on the swim and felt like my wetsuit was 3 sizes too small. The swim was a point to point 1/2 mile and I actually thought at one point that I might not make it. I knew coming out of the water that I had a lot of work to do so I pushed pretty hard on the bike and had a really good ride. I was hanging with two roadies who were solid riders, and they would drop me on the climbs and then I'd catch them on the flats. I burned a few matches trying to stay with them but it was fun and I really wanted to push hard on the bike. That set me up for a mediocre run but overall I managed to salvage a pretty decent finish. 52/360 overall and 6/27 AG. Full race report to follow.

Fall Epic 8hr Mountain bike ride done. As part of a 2 man team we completed 11 laps of the 10km course in 7:56. I did 7 laps in a time of 5:09. Happy to hit a tree on my first lap as I always seem to hit a tree in a race but at least it was out of the way early. 10th out of 15 teams.

Dave L: ouch on the tree!! congrats on the ride - sounds like fun.

Dave C: been there, done that on the swim (read your RR), but I DNF'd the swim when it happened and then continued on with the bike/run. They let you do that at most races here in Japan. That was about 4 years ago and after that I always start out at the back and avoid the thrashing that goes on. Of course, I am a much slower swimmer than you. Glad to hear that you worked through it and ended up with a decent race.

Adding a 45 min swim from Sun and a 1:12 run from today. The run included a little over 10km at 5:30-5:35 per km, i.e., my "wanna be race pace for the ironman next year".

Runch today 52:48. Last week was trashed by work. I had a trial that we all wanted over, so we went most of the Day Saturday and celebrated too much Saturday night, I had nothing in the tank Sunday.

Sad day. I put my tri bike on the drainer tonight and rode it for 30 minutes. I still have my road bike for nice days, but the forecast says no this week. I'm trying something new. I created a strength training plan for daughter number #2 this Summer. She was being recruited for MSU's rowing team. She made the team and actually admitted that the gains in strength helped her score really high in tryouts 13 out of 138 girls. I figured I would see if it helps during my off season.

ugh, bad luck again, went into a pea gravel corner too quickly, front washed out and was promptly slammed to the ground on my shoulder further opening up what was a minor wound from my weekends crash. Nothing horrible but my wife has mentioned that I seem to crash a lot on this new bike. Might be related to tires as these tires are a lot faster due to small knobs but also have less grip in the corners.

Otherwise it was a nice easy ride with my son for 30min.

Your training plan is a guide but you don’t blindly follow it. You shouldn’t know exactly what you are going to do until the day you are to do it.
