My boyfriend decided this was the perfect time to inform me he wanted a "break". Who does that a week before the ironman?? Trying super hard to focus on the race, and not that he won't be there with me. Any tips? Sorry to hear, stay strong and focus on your race. There are so many guys who would love to have a hot, fit girl like yourself. |

Sorry to hear this Lisa. It does sound like a really crappy thing to do a week before the race. Stay focused!!! I hope your doing okay. |

Regular 61 | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread I don't know about you guys but that youtube video with eminem, NOT COOL! I've never seen that now I'm scared s***less! I kinda heard that sometimes that stuff happens, but I've never seen in it real life! I'm gonna go to bed now and try to erase that from my mind. How in the world can that be motivating! I cried. Really. Hey, Sorry you didn't like the vid. I guess it motivates me because I have had people actually say to me that the Ironman isn't a very big accomplishment these days since thousands of people finish each year and it can't be very hard if old people and handicapped people can finish (they obviously are the overweight couch-potato type). Seeing a video like that reminds me that they couldn't be more wronger (I know that is improper speech, but I like it). Every athlete has to EARN it and will probably suffer in the process, from the defending champ (i.e. Norman Stadler throwing up on his bike) to the old guy at the end who just gets a fingernail accross the line, there is NOTHING easy about Ironman. Seeing the hard part of the sport just makes me that much more motivated to push through the pain both in training and (hopefully) on race day. Keep your head up and relax, you have put in the work and you WILL be one of the people celebrating at the finish line! See you guys there. |

New user 35 Springfield, IL | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Lisa- So sorry to hear that you are going thru this so close to IM! We're all here for you! I agree with Trisam, you're a strong and independent woman! You wouldn't be toeing the line otherwise! Everyone-Old Spaghetti Factory is no longer taking reservations for Saturday night. Most places that I looked up only had later reservations left, i.e. 7-8 pm. I got a reservation at Pesto Italian restaurant for Saturday at 5:30. I don't want to eat late on that night. Good luck to anyone else out there looking to eat dinner downtown! Ashleigh |

Veteran 118 Somerset, PA | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Ashleigh - I understand completely giving your husband more time for his birthday. I have to tell my wife everyday that it's almost over. She said the other day if I ever decide to do another one of these she'll leave me. Yesterday, I ended up skipping an hour bike ride so that I could go to my best friend's 40th birthday party. So instead of riding I ate cake and loved it. Today it's the last kind of long workout. a 35 mile ride / 4 mile run brick. Can't wait to get it in the books and done with. One week to go and the nerves are kicking in. Lokking forward to getting this done and dreading it at the same time. Peter B |

Extreme Veteran 483 San Diego | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Last weekend in the books! Got that 2.5 miler in on Fri in 1:15, but the lifeguard station had temp at 66, so I chickened out and wore a wetsuit (didn't want to give myself an out to quit in case it got too cold). Yesterday, I rode with a group on a local favorite called the Great Western Loop - it's 45 mi ride w/about 3,000' of climbing. It felt about as easy as it ever has. Wrapped things up this morning with a sprint race. I suffered quite a bit on the bike (most likely due to yesterday's ride), but the swim felt great and I just cruised the run. Raced with the new disc wheel, but I don't know how much difference it would really make at my IM pace. I think I'll just bring 9.0s for front and back. When I was heading down the finish chute, eking out that last bit of suffering, I couldn't help but think about next week and how, at about the same time...I'll still be swimming. See you all in Louisville! |

Veteran 247 Beatrice, Nebraska | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread I have been away from BT for a while and have missed this thread. Sorry if someone has already covered this but does anyone know what the water temp. of the Ohio has been? I found a real time reporting station once but can't seem to find it again. Just wondering if this will be wetsuit legal for those not racing for age group Kona qualifying? |

New user 35 Springfield, IL | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Adam- to add to what TriSam said: the swim cutoff being 2 hours 20 min after the last swimmer gets in the water... the last swimmer got in the water in 37 min in 2007 and in 45 min in 2008... according to the link that the Cube gave us "11 keys to a successful IMLOU". So if you're the last swimmer in the water and the last swimmer before the cutoff, you'll be done at about 9:00 am. Then you have until 2:30 pm to make it to mile 60. So roughly (not counting transition time) you have 5 1/2 hours to get 60 miles under your belt which is a 10.9 mph average. You then have 4 hours and 20 minutes to make the 6:20 bike course cutoff time which would make you pick up the pace a little and do 52 miles at 12 mph. You then have 3 hours and 25 min to make it to the first run cutoff at the end of the first loop. I'm not sure what the mile marker is at the end of 1 loop, I'm sure it is more than 13.1 since there is the bridge out and back before you get to the 1st loop. But you would need to do the 26.2 at a 12:58 pace to make it back by midnight. This of course does not include any transition times but you can see that you should have plenty of time. That being said I'm hoping to make it back in time! Hope this helps! |
