The bar tape will get replaced ASAP with solid red and I'm gonna have to change her to a compact crank. Needs a little tweaking with the cockpit fit but feels really good. Wow!
Congrats on the new bike! She looks fast. |

My shoulder is a little tired, so I'm not going to swim tomorrow. Instead I'll go for another microjog, and then lift weights tomorow at lunchtime. I'm doing awesome with nutrition ... the chocolate milk hit the spot yesterday, and I only ate somewhere around 1,400 calories, so I think some days I might have been too low. I'll have to keep better track. I bought some dried fruit to try on Saturday's bike ride ... I can do Gu, but I can't eat 95% of the energy bars because they have gluten. Since I have moved out, I have cooked every single meal. It is SOOOO nice not to have someone dragging you to restaurants where you can't get a healthy meal all the time. Hopefully I can pick my bike up soon! what no BT at work? the shame!!! so tell me more about this chocolate milk? I think I missed what it does!? thanks to you I have been reading more labels and trying to cut down on gluten products. keep up the healthy eating Susie. Chocolate milk, allegedly, has the perfect ratio of carbs to protein for recovery. Personally, I just think it's darn good. Really filling. I was STARVING after my swim last Saturday, and drinking a cup of chocolate milk held me over while I was cooking. Dairy doesn't really agree much with my tummy, though, so once I move out I'm going to try using almond milk instead. (Roomie is deathly allergic to nuts.) |

It's that TOM and I have cramps so bad I feel like I could throw up at any moment. I haen't had cramps this bad in several years. Roomie feels the same way. I blame her. ha ha ha. So going to take it easy and see if I might be able to either go for a short ride later today, or maybe for a short jog or something. And I really, really, really wanted bacon and ice cream this morning, but instead I made eggs with a little cheddar cheese. Yummy. In the meantime, it's off to pick up my bike and go to a couple of consignment shops. |

Unless the smaller room is A LOT smaller, I would probably take it and save the $100 per month (it's a lot of swim caps or just a year of saving for a decent bike!). Hope you're feeling better too- if you can get out for a ride/walk, do- it often does make you feel better. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well, we are in Fernie and no skiiing for me today. We got in late last night after I delayed our departure so that I could go for a run. I just could not waste 15C and sunshine and opportunity to have my first run in shorts (or in this case my new running skirt). So Linkin and I got out and splashed around in some puddles and had a grand time. Dh and I had a good sleep in and then went out for coffee, read the paper, and threw the ball a kazillion times for Linkin. We are just enjoying the rest and plan to walk around downtown. We will hit the hill tomorrow. Besides my triceps and chest are killing me from the 80 push-ups in our 'fighting mile' workout from Thursday. Hope you are all enjoying a wonderful Saturday doing something fun!

Would love a personal welcome to the group!! I'm about 2.5 hr drive from Mississauaga- in fact next w'end will be in Hamilton ( its about a 45 min drive from Mississauga) for Around the Bay- 30 km race- apparently it's "older than Boston!" I'm in southwestern Ontarion- small city- Chatham- (between London and Windsor- not to far from Detroit!) Anyway- my goal is to be able to run 22 km of the race- and 'the death march" for the remaining 8 km!! It is a hilly/tough course- I'm use to the flatlands... oh well- good trng!! Hope everyone has a great weekend- and thanks for the welcome! Very cool! Funny, the race that first really got me excited about running was the Around the Bay! When I was in Grade 9, our track coach put us in the relay and I had the time of my life- loved every minute of it. It inspired me to take my cross-country team to the CIM in Sacramento to run the marathon as a relay. We had 35 kids go last year! Chatham eh? Have a fabulous run! Perhaps if timing allows, I might just make my way down! |

OK, we need to find out where you are and take it from there. Do you know about shifting gears? Low gears for climbing and high gears for speed? Cadence is pedal revolutions per minute, basically how fast you are turning the cranks (cranks are the arms that the pedals attach to). Mashing basically means standing up on the pedals when the bike is in a higher gear, usually at a lower cadence, whereas spinning refers to staying seated, using lower gears, and pedaling at a higher cadence. People are usually much more comfortable mashing or spinning. |

Read some Bicycling magazine. ![]() Granny gear means the easiest gear ... so called because hard-core roadies wouldn't be caught dead using it. And I generally do 30-40% of my ride in the granny gear. Ha ha ha. A triple means there are three cogs in the front instead of two, so that you have easier gears for climbing. If it's at all hilly in your area, you probably want to start out with a triple. A "compact" means there are only two gears in the front, but they are easier than a true "double" but still harder than a triple. Any more questions, just ask us! |
