IceManScott - 2011-08-01 12:19 PM Heard you finished Enrique.  Awesome!

Yep!  I'm going to write a RR in the next day or two, but offically my times were 1:13:29 swim, 7:22:28 bike, and 5:06:14 run.  With transitions and all I came in at 14:04:35.

Just a note on the picture.  We had already been to the hose off area.  We were completely covered in mud after the race.  Those shirts were bright pink before the race.

Oh my gawd, that looks like fun!! I want to do one of those with my friend Cat... she says she's up for it. You guys rocked it!

Congratulations to you both.  That is so awesome.

I'm putting in long hours training in super hot conditions.  113 miles on the bike in a very hilly course on Saturday as part of a charity ride.  18 mph ave.  Intense ride with 3 X 15 mins at 80% on Sunday, then 1:40 run.  Feeling really dead on my butt. Week of workouts, then back to Madison on Saturday for 112 mile ride and 90 min run.

Ice that's some tough training... more biking than I could handle for sure!

You should. We had a blast.  There is a Muddy Buddy in Orlando. Here is a pic of us  running to the finish after the mud pit.

I know I haven't been on much the last couple of months but hope to remedy that.  I'm still out there slugging away and signed up for a trail race in October.  Hoping a clear goal will help me stay focused.  Nice to see people are still active here and I can come back.

Hi all

I've made three trips to Wisconsin now to ride the course.  Fun course but approaching it analytically now.  Where can I use my strength on relatively flat places, where do I have to just spin to get up the hills without burning many matches.  Where do you have to just gut it out.  All good.  I rode it in 6:15 Saturday.  Open course, lots of cars and bikes. so I was happy with that.

The big point is the bike is working perfectly now after three bike shops.  Finally found someone who knows what he is doing with TT bikes. The fit is OK.  I'm sitting up where being aero makes do no difference on slow areas in the hills and that made a huge improvement.

Nutrition is coming along.

Ran 90 mins after the ride.  Hot, too little water on the course I ran.  Felt like crap at the end.  I knew I would do to hydration and nutrition falling apart.  Wont be that way race day.

Swam an hour Sunday, 1.5 miles.  Bought myself a new sleeveless wet suit.  Looking forward to trying it in open water.

Plan calls for staying home this weekend and riding 112 around here, running and swimming, then heading back to Madison the weekend after that for the Masters OWS at the lake and ride the course.

Feeling strong.  The main problem is the rest.  Always feel like I could use more sleep and food.  Trying to keep up with both.

Have a great week. Cooler temps coming.  WooHoo!

Ice.

IceMan:  All I can say is "wow", that is some serious training! Looking at what you're doing there is no way I will ever sign up for a 140.6    Glad to hear someone will be getting cooler weather soon; we have another 2.5 months of high heat and humidity - ugh.

Please don't judge an IM on account of me.  I've a freaking novice.  I have no idea if I am doing what I need.  I have a coach telling me I am, but I won't be able to tell you until next month.  Keep an open mind.  Lots of people are doing it.  It is certainly not mandatory or something most people want to do, but if you want to, there are plenty of them to siogn up for and lots of help getting there.

I posted a race report for yesterdays sprint. It was hard in some ways, a learning experience for sure but I had a really good bike segment and so I'm really stoked about that...

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=263973

After the race I was walking around thinking to myself, is this worth the hassle, the time and mental energy I put into training, the cost... I was feeling a bit down on it all, got into a bit of a negative mind after the race. Today I realize I was seriously exhausted from lack of rest all last week, I was emotionally depleted. I feel good about it today, I learned a lot yesterday and will try not to make the same mistakes again. The main thing is to enjoy the race! My prerace experience sucked and it affected my attitude going into the race. It was a day of ups and downs.

I'm still traveling, so I haven't read your RR, but THANK YOU for posting what you did here.

Race day (whether it's a sprint, OLY, 5K, or 140.6) usually has amplified emotions.  Higher highs and lower lows than what we normally experience.  The important thing to keep in mind is that race day is *ONE* day in our life and doesn't define our life.  This is true whether you cross the finish line with an announcer calling you an "Ironman" or whether you DNF.  I have several friends who have DNF'd IM races (some after finishing a previous 140.6).  I have a huge amount of respect for them.  The DNF still bothers them (a little) but it doesn't define them.

I think your experience about attitude affecting the race (the day) is 100% correct and the reason I try to get each of you to focus on the positive experiences in your lives rather than dwell on the negatives.  It really makes a difference!

Oh my. Friend drama. Equipment drama.. ::sigh:: I've got to hand it to you, you handled it like a trouper! Great job on making the most of each 'lemon', you not only had lemonade, you had lemon slushies! Good going... something to be proud of. No excuses for you, right on!!

Seriously... blah! I ran 5 miles this morning at 6:30am... my shorts were dripping in the elevator when I got back home. The amount of ceralyte and water and headbands and sweat bands and LAUNDRY... geesh. They say this heat training is really good though so....

I am signed up for the ING Miami Marathon AND I started marathon training with a group (200 in all) on Saturday.

I read your race report; what a stressful morning!  I think pre-race nerves are an issue for most people - if you come up with a solution, please post it!  Glad to see that your negative thoughts have passed and you are focusing on the positives like that awesome bike!  BTW, if you put a little baby powder in your socks they go on wet feet pretty easily and help absorb the water.

Isn't it fun when it's so hot and humid that not only do your clothes get to a point where you can wring them out, but the clothes of the people you run with fling sweat on you!  I may be joining you at ING Miami - it depends on how I feel after my November 70.3.

Mike, you are so spot on about hightened emotions on race day... so good to keep that in mind, that whatever you are feeling, especially the low, will pass. By the way I really appreciate your continued support and wisdom.

Steph, wowowow, the ING marathon, thats exciting and huge! I just checked your logs, you're already up to 5mi! I'm so glad to hear it after your injury a few months back. I'd love to come to Miami and do a race sometime, maybe I'll look into doing the 1/2 in January.

Ann-Marie, thanks for the tip about the baby powder, good one: ) I think I know now just how important that pre-race time is for going over transition, getting centered and focused etc...

Hope ya'll have a good week!

There's always the inaugural Dodge Latin Music Miami Beach 1/2 Marathon, December 11th, part of the Rock n Roll Marathon Series.

http://runrocknroll.competitor.com/My running coach is helping promote it. www.runwithbryan.com is my coach Bryan Huberty.

I may do this one as my first half. YIKES...all so scary...and exciting!

Just finally got a tool to loosen my pedals so I can get OUT of them and stop falling over! YAY tools! Now if I could just learn to change a tire, I'd feel pretty confident.
