Subject: RE: The "Ultimate COJ Thread About Nothing" Thread # 3Heh. There's actually a website out there dedicated to pointing out people who have fraudulently claimed to be Navy SEALs. I know I never did anything overly cool. I talk about the fun stuff, because it was fun, and if people ask questions, I'll gladly answer. Personally, I never thought of military service as making someone better than anyone else. It's a calling, like a being a priest. You dedicate part of yourself to it, even those who claim to hate it, and do short tours. But you're not better, just different. Like doing athletics. People here are dedicated to a greater or lesser extent to triathlons. That doesn't make them better than anyone else, just different than the rest. I enjoyed the vast majority of my time, and would go back in a heartbeat. And no, my dedication to my country is no greater than anyone else's. Just my dedication to my men (I never had female troops). And that's something that people who have never done it don't really fully grasp, I think. Hence the reason I like the St. Crispin's Day speech. It encompasses that feeling rather well. That, and the speech at the start of the movie "Patton". |
