Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Doc gave me the green light to "try" running to see how the leg/bone responds. Thinks any residual aches I have been feeling are tendon related and that I should continue cycling to help strengthen the muscles and tendon in that area. Thinks it will help long term as I begin running again. So - Monday I hope to get up early and head to the local track and see how it goes. Hoping to get to the pool midday and get in a couple of outdoor rides and a swim this weekend. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Mitch, great news from your Doc, let us know how does your first run go on Monday! This has been a challenging week between a new member of the family at home and a last minute visit by my Taiwanese customers on Wednesday, which ended up turning into a 17 hr work day. Yesterday I was exhausted so no workout and today its going to be another 17+ hr work day. However I was able to wake up early and get a 2hr, 13 mile run. Have a great weekend everyone! Pay attention to those resting HRs, etc. Don't make yourself ill. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Tough week here, my parents were visiting for the past two weeks and they left yesterday. They're getting old, and my Dad is developing the first signs/symptoms of Parkinson's, so it's tough starting to realize that your parents are getting old (he turned 74 during their visit) and things will change and times won't be the same. My wife's a physician, and it was glaringly obvious to her (even though she's an OB/Gyn) that he has it, and now my Mom is at least armed with some knowledge to bring to their doc at home. Add to that I was asked to sub as a goalie in our high school summer hockey league which just physically destroyed me! A good reminder that every sport has specific muscles that it uses, and doesn't use. I might be in better shape, as a runner/biker/swimmer, than everyone else out there, but I don't play hockey often enough to keep certain muscles in shape and as a result I'm having trouble even walking! Nevertheless I was able to at least get in a swim and run yesterday, then a run this morning during my son's tennis practice. Hoping to get in a swim this afternoon, it's just too darn hot out to get on the bike. Outside at least. Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Log for the swim last night and tough bike today. Very windy day here and practicing with the cross winds on the road made me more tired than the actual mileage should have. Should be good practice for my next race though. I'm told that the winds there will be a factor for the bike along Lake Michigan. Go easy Gabe, That son of yours needs a healthy Daddy to be a good example for him. Andy- I hear you about the cross sport fitness. Did some fairly vigorous hiking in rough terrain with the boy scouts last weekend and I sure could feel it in my calves and quads. Great news Mitch. Start out easy so you don't re-injure that fracture. Hope things work out well for you to get back into the training groove. Canoe trip with the Youth group from church this weekend. Hoping for a run or two during our down time, but there won't be time for much else. Have a great weekend everybody! Scott S 6/ B 8/ R 11 Rest 3 Total 25 Time 23:08:00 |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Battling a bad internet connection today, but manged to go for early morning MTB ride. Windy as hell, SW-S, the bike was blown all over the road in some places. At one time I found myself in the middle of the peloton as a possie of roadies caught up with me. I stepped on the pedals and, being protected from the wind, held my own (for a few minutes). It was one of the scariest things one can experience on the bike. All the time I thought we would end up in a massive pile up TdF style. Other than that, enjoyable ride. Hope you all are having a great weekend (you too Gabe, look after yourself, please...). |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Got in a 4 mile run this afternoon. I've got a 45 minute window of lap pool time left today that I can hit, hoping to get over for that before the Y closes.

![]() | ![]() JoePetto - 2012-07-21 12:56 PM Chris - best of luck to you tomorrow at your HIM. Have fun and race smart and safe. Thanks Joe. Key for me is to keep the heart rate down on the bike. (And then pace it well on the run.) Going to take a power nap now and then do a short ows. |

Thanks Joe. Key for me is to keep the heart rate down on the bike. (And then pace it well on the run.) Going to take a power nap now and then do a short ows. Good luck tomorrow. You should have no problem keeping that heart rate in check since you've already had the opportunity to ride the bike course and you know what to expect. Keep cool, get in plenty of fluids and listen to your body in the heat! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Chris, best of luck tomorrow, kick some butt and remember to have fun! Thanks all for your advice on taking it easy which sometimes its easy to forget. I ended up working a 22 hr workday yesterday with my Taiwanese customers, so no workouts today (but will be drinking some good red wines) Salud! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I was able to get into the lap pool's 45 minute window 10 minutes early, the lifeguard let me stay 2 minutes late, and I was able to get in 3000 yards! 600 warmup at 1:31/hundred, 2x200 at 1:20, 2x500 at 1:30, 400 drills then 600 cool down. And here's the best part, ready Chris? An old friend called me an hour ago and guess what? They have a voucher they're not using for half off tomorrow's HIM. $55 for a HIM, I can't resist, I'll see you tomorrow! I've been getting antsy not racing since Alcatraz so why not, right? This ought to be interesting...
